Forest have repeatedly signed people who were never on anyone’s radar, out of left field. I find some people’s need to be kept in the loop of our clubs transfer activity a bit on the strange side. What’s the point of worrying about something you have no control over when even after the club signs someone you then spend months worrying if they are the right person.

Let them crack on with what they are doing, recently we have generally sold really well and bought who we wanted, they aren’t all a success, last seasons managerial merry go round has a lot to blame for that.

Whatever happens, whoever we sign and whenever we sign them, I reckon we are on for a much better season than last even losing our best player because we won’t have fat Ange managing for some of it.

Not sure why, we knew Anderson was going for weeks, we bid on Bergvall and Spurs want too much money, fine move on, but who's next on the list? We usually find out through Romano etc. Who the next target is but nothing. Are we sweating it out on Bergvall eventually being available at a reduced price? Again thats fine but very risky potentially leaving us with a last minute panic buy instead if he goes elsewhere or stays

I'll reiterate it's not kid in a sweet shop stuff, I'm surprised more business hasn't been done considering everyones learning a new system, the importance of preseason and the fact half the league have sorted their main targets already

I'm sure ( I hope) things will all pan out fine, but we have already lost time, we're what? 3 weeks from the first league game? The lack of incomings for preseason will have a negative effect as players will have less time to integrate
Yes, we knew that Anderson was off but Galsner’s arrival would have naturally slowed things down - it would have been stupid to make any big signings without his approval so think it’s logical there would be a delay and Glasner will know that and I suspect, accept that.

I think your point about Bergval is possibly the driver of some frustration in the replies. Move on fine (agreed) but then why have we not heard anything…why should the club leak info, why would WE have had to have heard anything? What benefit is it leaking anything to people like Romano? I’d much rather it was all done in the background.

I completely understand your reservations about the delays but you are deducing a strategy yourself and calling it risky - we again have no idea what the strategy is. It’s a forum people will debate either side.

We should surely start to see some movement in both directions over the next few days. This Diomande one in particular is taking the piss as he's been on the cusp of signing for about a week.

More than happy to have a debate and am quite proud that I will always admit when I'm wrong, that's why we post on here right? Lots resort to an easy hit of sarcasm which just gets tedious though

You're correct we have no divine right to know details of what's going on, i keep saying though that im just surprised we haven't done more by now (ins and outs) the quicker players get in and settle the better

Yeah, fair enough. I just don't see anything unusual happening this season that doesn't happen most seasons. We rarely sign anyone during the training camps as far as I remember. I think we'll see things moving in the next couple of weeks and we'll sign some players and move some others on. They might still be the wrong ones in and out of course. But I still don't think the timing of a few weeks here and there is as important as some obviously.

I get it and you are probably taking the brunt of it as you’ve been prepared to reply and debate some really valid points.

…unfortunately for you there have been quite a few others probably on your side of the fence that have just been moaning and whinging like spoilt brats

I get, of course, that others have been more active than us but activity doesn't equate to quality nor does it mean success. Creating a good squad is based on far more than just outlay.

There's been lots of shedding of players in those listed, who clearly haven't been regarded as having made the grade and we've done a fair amount ourselves. That we haven't done more (yet) can be taken as a sign that we either don't have that many who are regarded as sub-par and/or that we won't get rid of more until more bodies come in which makes sense. The new manager making his own evaluation will slow that process down as well.

Again looking at other sides business - there's a fair smattering of punts of bargain basement signings that you'd imagine have a fairly low chance of making the grade. That we aren't doing this much at the moment can be seen as indicators that we aren't wasting critical resources on quantity over quality. I don't know about you but I don't want us to be footballing equivalent of the pools/lottery winner who spunked their windfall away in a splurge of excess and was left with nothing. Better to use the money judiciously for long tern benefit and more specifically to pursue higher cost (and hopefully) quality players that take time to get over the line.

If we'd spent the 100m Anderson money on 4x25m players that we'd never heard of I'm sure we'd have a section of the forum decrying that as a risky gamble.

And thats where we disagree (which is fine) and my main point of concern i.e. why this season should ideally have been different -

. Last seasons awful preseason leading to full on car crash (nuno then ange)
. New (higher level) manager who will probably implement (yet another) new system for the players to get their head around
. Loss of probably our best player, known well in advance

I know we'll be active in the market we always are, just think we've missed a trick and lost an advantage not getting more done early

Agree with this. I only care once said footballer has put the famous shirt on... the before and after of their careers is a mix of meh, jealous admiration, give a f*** and utter revulsion. I honestly think the only recent exception is Djed Spence; and the silly bastard wasn't even ours in the first place.

Counterpoint: it’s better for the players we already have (and we have plenty) to get up to speed with the new manager before chucking a load of new teammates at them as well.

Maybe, but let's say dominguez plays all preseason and looks like being first choice, fine. Then we sign Bergvall on d day and he gets dropped straight in 2 days later over Dom, we've instilled an element of risk there even though we potentially have an upgrade. Better for them both to be here early as possible and get learned. On the other point I think we'll see some binned off over the next week or so now OG has had a view on profiles, probably wingers

I noticed some interesting comments from Iraola today saying he traditionally hated the month of August as a manager as you have lots of players playing in games who aren't going to be there when the season kicks off and then players who haven't even been signed yet.

But then, what if 5 minutes before kickoff Bergvall tries to kick a cat that has mistakenly wandered into the wfcg and ended up in the tunnel. Now bergvall may well be allergic to the cat and have a reaction so he tries to shoe it away but ends up kicking a table and breaks his foot. Then the surgery may go wrong to correct his broken tootsie, he gets a blood infection and ends up missing the entire season.
Ffs. We might not even be after bergvall. Just stop. It’s football, they are used to swapping clubs as and when, used to being dropped as and when, used to having to fight for their places.
All the what ifs are boring!

Re: the Iraola comments.

Liverpool look woefully short in defence and they have other areas that need strengthening and we are less than 3 weeks away from the season starting. They are a wealthy club with resources and player pull factors way beyond ours, but it's still going to be a grind for them to be where they want to be by the start of the season. It's a tough month to do business, especially in a World Cup year.

People can talk of other teams strengthening above and beyond what we have managed thus far, but they are just names on a squad list at the moment and many of them will have signed for fees in the £10-25 million bracket, which is far from a guarantee at PL level.

There is no proof that anyone has really strengthened until they show it on the pitch. Look at Liverpool last season, everyone thought they would walk away with the league after signing Isak and Wirtz. However, I think you can say that some teams look much weaker than last year, and Newcastle are a case in point.

I don’t really get your point about risk. Everyone is a risk whether they sign on the 1st of July or the 31st of August surely? In any case there’s a happy medium between the start of the window and deadline day and it’s around about now. Fingers crossed we’ll see some movement soon.

Elliot Anderson being one example

It took Chelsea a couple of weeks to sign Jordan Henderson and he was on a free with no club to negotiate with.

With Oggy now in charge, I kind of view some of last year's incomings as new signings, McAtee being a perfect example.

If Glasner can turn McAtee into a Wharton-style CM then I'd be worried Real Madrid will come calling to take over from Mourinho.
