You can't have it all ends up though chaps. You can't say we don't know what the figures are and also say it wasn't a couple of million.
Personally I am not saying it was or wasn’t but I firmly believe you should have a valuation of a product or service and stick to it.

I think we need to be realistic these days that some times 20m and 20m aren’t always the same thing when the payment structures are involved.

I can understand those posting that patience is needed and we need to watch the pennys.

Absolutely.

However, there is also value in getting your signings bought early in the window and settling them into the team. At best, this may result in a better position in the league at the end of the season.

Most other teams in our league have managed to sign more than one interesting player early in this window and that gives them the edge.

Either we were after this chap and we felt short of the asking price or we were never after him and have been wasting our time?? In which case where is the actual target?

Some will suggest that this process is not easy, that patience is required to get the best deal. Most other teams appear to have managed this on a much more advantageous timescale...

I don't advocate throwing money around, I don't advocate signing rubbish, especially at the last minute, vis a vis last year!

I do suggest we get our bottoms in gear, identify players prior to the window opening and working out how our competition manages to make their signings so much earlier!

In my opinion our current approach didn't work out well last year!

Is the lack iof structure at Forest having any impact? Who’s doing the negotiating? A lot of people left last season that as far as I know haven’t been replaced? 🤷‍♀️

We are not Chelsea. We have to abide by the financial rules.

If we breach them we won't get a slap on the wrists like them, we'll be docked points.

It's understandable that we all want players in as soon as possible but we can't do that by popping 'a couple of million quid' over our valuation on them just to get them done because it could leave us open to that points deduction.

Working on the basis that the club knows their finances better than anyone on here and that Glasner knows the plans, alternatives and finances better than any of us I'm happy to trust the club if they don't want to spend that bit extra and also that he won't be spitting his dummy out if we don't.

Really good post and completely agree.

Feel like we fans fill in a lot of the gaps - clearly someone outside the club has leaked we are bidding but that doesn’t mean Read is the top target or we are simply quibbling over 2m.

We have to trust the club that there is balance.

Exaggeration aside, is that really the case Ewan?
Notwithstanding our disagreement about your desire for the club to be transparent about its targets and status of negotiations, I acknowledge your frustration regarding the lack of incomings (other than Shlager) so far. The issue for me, and others, are those on here who post guesswork and conjecture as accepted fact - particularly in terms of the manager's thoughts.
I've seen plenty of "some people just want bodies in and will behave like spoilt brats if it doesn't happen" posts taking the piss "I'll scream and scream till we sign a player" etc. like people don't think others understand the processes in hand, it's a bit tiresome when 2 or 3 wade in like a mob because someone has a different view, I suppose eveyones bored, people also don't read posts properly and wade in, I was asked to name specific players we'd missed out on when I hadn't even said we had done so.

To clarify where I'm at (if anyones interested) we knew Anderson was going and for big money well before the WC, so if Glasner had said he'd told the club to hold off signings till he'd assessed everyone then fine, but he didn't he said they had identified targets, so I would have expected to see someone on board ready for preseason which many have said is critical to implement new systems plus fitness, city, spurs etc. Have gone early with signings so have brentford, brighton etc. i mean wtf is going on with Diomande? I'm sure we'll see players in towards deadline day as we always do but this season above all others I think we needed to start early and give ourselves the best chance, that's why i'm concerned not because I just want to see shiny new players.

I don't follow your comment about stating rumour as fact, have I done this somewhere?

I'm going to be on the pedantic side. The interview that I saw with OG said he had identified the profile of player needed. Not necessarily the individuals. So you'd assume they work towards identifying and trying to sign players who match the profile. Doesn't mean he has identified specific individuals he wanted. If they can't get first choice, they'll move down the list. That's pretty normal. There is no indication he's getting even remotely frustrated.

The transfers will or won't happen. Glasner may or may not stay. Water is wet etc. if we start with our best 11 we can compete. I hope we get players in that improve the starting 11 but not more squad fodder
