Gary McSheffrey.

It's Baggio

John Robertson
From Karen Brady's Sun Sport Blog:

MY phone tones have nearly finished Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, I’ve had so many calls asking about the possible loan of Blues winger Gary McSheffrey.

The latest comes from David Pleat, who is currently a consultant to Forest. I beat him to the punch. “If it’s another offer of two camels and a peanut,” I say, “you can’t have him.”

David’s reply is a classic: “Well, we’re not Manchester City where they pay Lewis Hamilton £80million to drive the team bus, but we do have some money.”

Whether Gary goes and on what terms is up to manager Alex McLeish.

Would be an excellent signing. Exactly what we need. Should be definately be pushed through now Anderson is out long term.

If he is the only player we sign in January I would be very happy with that.

I wouldn't.

Not that he wouldn't be an excellent signing but we desperately need a good left back.

You're not kidding, if I see Lynch in a Forest shirt again I'll cry.

I would love to see this move actually happen. We're probably more likely to press for a winger now that Ando's going to be out of action for a while.

My mate is a Cov fan who worships McSheffrey. I think seeing him in a Forest shirt would give him a heart attack.

We've signed Lynch until the end of the season, but God knows why!

When I was watching the game last night, the lad Dan brought with him knows Lynch from school down here, and even he recognised how poor he was.

I'm sure he's a good central defender, but in League One.

McSheffrey, however, would be a great signing.

We still need a left-back, though.

Michael Ball anyone? :D

I agree but my expectations have been lowered by previous January transfer windows. Wilson and Cohen have both filled in well at left back. If we add Mcsheffrey and Moussi to our current midfield it frees up Cohen to cover left back.

Not ideal but I think it would get us over the line and next summer we can think about a back up keeper, left back and tall striker.

Trouble with playing Cohen at left back is that it's almost a complete waste of his ability. Wilson did well enough against City and Plymouth but given our position I don't really think we can afford to just "make do" until the summer.

It's a problem position and it's a problem that needs solving ASAP.

I was not aware McSheffrey could play left back. :)

He would be a good loan signing though, as long as it's in addition to a couple of full backs.

I don't really agree that it is a waste of his ability. Full backs are a very important part of a team. Having a sturdy one is important and I think he does well there. His best position is centre midfield but with Mcgugan and Moussi fit I would prefer those two.

Cohen is not really a left winger, he drifts in too much and dosn't have the pace. We haven't really got a left winger since Commons left. Tyson is probably our best.

A team of

Smith

Perch Morgan Breckin Cohen

Mcsheffry Mcgugan Moussi Tyson

Earnshaw Garner

Subs

Wilson
Gamble
Moloney
Davies
McCleary
Thornhill
Chambers

That would do me for the rest of the season, it has a championship feel about it.

I find it interesting that Pleat is making our calls. Sounds like a director of football rather than a consultant.

That's a cracking team.

I agree, in some ways, that Cohen is wasted at left back, but with him and Chambers/Perch liking to get forward, they act almost as wing-backs and that would allow Cohen to get forward.

I do think, albeit very briefly, that our midfield looked the best with McGugan alongside Moussi.

Tyson always gets found out when you restrict him solely to the left wing. I'd only play him there in emergencies.

Play him up front where he can run down both channels and cause problems on both sides, like he's been doing for the last month.

I'd probably urge some caution on this one.

Karen Brady probably wouldn't leak the deal in a newspaper column if we were serious contendors, as I doubt whether McCleish or McSheffrey would appreciate it.

Like the look of that team.

I don't want to sound like a moaning bastard, but what did Moussi actually really do warrant being bought straight back into the team when fit? Yes, he had a great opening game against Reading but after that he didn't seem to really do well. Remember, Davies wants experienced players so unless Moussi really impresses, I can't see him getting into the starting XI. Don't get me wrong, he is a good player and would be decent to have on the bench and use if we need, but other than that I'm not sold.

Back to the point, McSheffery would be a great signing, loan or permanent, and I think we have a good chance of getting him.

re: Pleat making the enquiry - we don't know when it was made, could have been very recently and with Davies in Glasgow to be with his son, it makes sense Pleat to be asking the questions. Also, I'd imagine from the tone of Karen's blog thing that they know each other so he can go in with a bit of an edge maybe?

Moussi - foreign player, needs time to adapt to the league. Under Davies he might be a better player also. The Forest team reported problems with the language barrier after a few games, hopefully more time in the country and taking lessons from Bencherif may have enabled him to adapt abit better.

I honestly think that given abit more experience he could be a MASSIVE player for us, and his initial few games demonstrated the potential that he has.

Yep, fair point. But people are on about him coming straight back into the team? I don't think he has done enough to warrant that sort of prestigious role within the club. And certainly, I'd doubt if Davies has seen him kick a ball anyway!!

Our midfield has hardly done enough to warrent being untouchable either. In my opinion Moussi is a better midfielder than the others. I could understand your argument if we were in the top half but were not.

I personally think our midfield has been the best thing about the squad up until now when everyone seems to be playing well.

I'm not trying to say Moussi is a bad player, I just don't believe he can walk straight back into the team. Likewise, no one else can expect to just start playing again. Having the Moose fit will be great and gives us yet another option and style of play while also making sure everyone plays their hearts out to earn their place in the starting XI.

But, as a holding midfielder, how can you justify leaving Perch out at the moment?!

McSheffery, I understand, can play upfront as well as on the right?
