Forget Camp we should get Westwood

If we're looking for a keeper then I think we sould go fo Westwood at Cov.

He is highly rate and would cost quite a bit but we forked out 3 million on Earnie to score goals and I think we should do the same at the other to stop them at the other end.

I think Ward would also be a good addition, scores quite a few goals from set pieces, has good height and has proven chamionship pedigree.

If we go these two plus Dexter then the spine of our team could look a lot stronger.

Wouldn't come to us and I'd rather improve the squad as a whole than spending silly money on individual players.

Why is everyone assuming we're going to have a ridiculous amount of money to spend anyway?

These will be the same people who complain fi we spend £2m or less I bet.

I will complain if we spend less than £2m.

We have SEVEN loan players, they either need signing up or replacing. We can't repeat the same mistakes we made this season, with the tiny squad and the over-reliance on kids.

If we can bring in 7+ Championship quality players for less than £2m then great but I doubt it's possible.

For me number one choice would be Kelvin Davies, followed by Lee Camp.

According to this southampton review of their keepers , Davies only started to do well this season but as his contract is ending , he'll be available for free so he'll be a cheap choice to have considering how much the other choices would cost.

Exactly the reason for him being my first choice, he's experienced and like that article says he's been good this season. We could probably get him for a lot less than what QPR want for Lee Camp as his contract is ending. Especially with the Saints in a financial crisis.

Paul Smith would be fine (and has been in the last couple of games) with a decent defence. Before we shell out on a goalkeeper we need two new full backs and at least two central defenders.

Ideally we should be looking at:

New RB ---- New CB --- Morgan --- New LB.

I'd settle for Perch filling the right back slot.

Gunter --- Ward --- Morgan --- (dare I say it?) Lynch....?

This sadly is becoming the mentality of the average Forest fan.

Yes we do need players but why do you expect the chairman to have to dig deeper and deeper every year, especially if you're later going to criticise him for getting us into a load of debt?

Teams have been built on much smaller budgets and we can always use the loan market again.

How much do you think he should let us spend as a minimum? £7m? £8m? Look at what teams in this divsion spent as a total this season then ask yourself if you're constantly expecting too much spending or not.

There has to be a moderation between spending a lot of money for players and looking for good bargains. Swansea has shown that you do not have to spend big to be successful , their manager were able to tap into the foreign market to find great bargains for a snip.

In some cases , it's unavoidable that we will need to spend but i hope that Davies will be able to find good players that doesn't require splashing out millions for as well. There are many bargains to be found in the lower leagues or Billy's favorite scouting place - the SPL , it's just a matter of knowing where to look.

Don't know why but I think Davies, will try and go for Andy Lonergan the Preston goalkeeper.
He's a pretty decent goalie.

I would say we will buy Blackstock, and then spend about another 1.5 mill or so. Nothing crazy.

Can't see us spending more than we did at the beginning of this season.

Although I don't expect the chairman to have to spend really silly money, I do know that we can't rely on luck to help us avoid another season like this one. Something MUST be done - the alternative is relegation. Marshal 99 is right - there must be a balance. I guess we must trust the people running the club. At some point in the future, we are going to have to really invest big money to get into the Prem - that's where the REAL riches are to be had. If we had real big backers, that investment would be made now.

But should we be taking a big gamble trying to get to the Premiership next year. I said this year 21st and I'll be happy which I think now that we will better. Next year all I want is to avoid relegation more comfortably than we did this year, 14th or above. Some might call that negative but I think it's progress that wouldn't cost the world and we wouldn't have to risk too much aspiring to it.

BUt as said in the article only performed this year hence only performing when needing a contract!

No wonder my post count..
I just hope Blackstock/Gunter/Anderson/Lynch are all priorities on BD's survival shopping list. We pretty much have a pick from each position there which is a great starting post to build a team around IMO.

Couldn't agree more, apart from maybe Lynch as I'm still undecided about him.

Yeah. I chose him because he's a good investment for the club. He's only young and he grew up quite quickly over the last few games he played for us. He's really flourished under Billy and I think with a pre season between him and BD would oust a promising young man.

I argued this a few seasons ago with the Smith fanboys who claimed Smith was better than him... :D Yeah I know how silly!

Sadly today Westwood is too good for us.

I expect the chairman to dig deeper and deeper if we want to be competitive.

The fact is, this season to remain competitive we've had to rely on far too many loan players, loan players that would be very expensive in the transfer market. If we can replace the £2m rated Blackstock, the £3m Gunter, the Premiership reserves Osbourne/Turner/Anderson with a couple of freebies then great. I don't think we can, though.

"Criticising him for getting us into a load of debt?" I have no idea what that means.

Billy doesn't like the loan market. The club didn't either before February.

I have no idea what he should spend, I don't know who the managers targets are. I want to see 7 or 8 good players come in - I'd like to see him spend whatever they cost.
