Forest's 'Glamour boys' !?

Just been reading today's news on the OS about Perch, where Davies refers to him as becoming 'glamorous' next season when he gets him 'in his right position' (presumably meaning right back) - i find this a rather bizarre and slightly surprising statement from Billy. At the moment we have Gunter who can fill right back and is better than Perch IMO and personally I feel/felt that Perch may be one of the casualties in the summer clear out. He has been here a long time now, certainly not a new boy, and has never held one position down (partly not his fault, as he has just been used where required) but partly because he's not good enough, and is constantly found wanting by better opponents in whatever position he plays. He might be competitive but he certainly ISNT the future for Forest, in whatever position, and personally I dont want him in the team next season (if we're still in the championship, then again we may well be in L1, and so he'd probably be ok there)

Am I the only person left in the world that thinks Billy doesn't see Jimmy Perch as a right back? Look at the defence against Burnley. If he saw him as a right back why has he played him in the centre of defence and Chambers at right back who we all know is a centre back and definately not a right back.

Maybe Billy see's him as a 'Libero' in the style of Beckenbauer, Sammer etc.... :)

Gunter won't be here next season anyway - Davies may see Perch as a CB. Perch is decent enough as a utility player, which is what he is at the moment. I wouldnt say he is constantly found wanting either, he has bad games, but who hasn't this season?

I think the problem is that Perch has been one of our better players this season, and as a utility player this reflects why we are in a relegation battle. I rate James, he is honest and comitted to the cause which can't be said for half the team. If we are to stay up Perchy is exactly the kind of player we need along with the likes of Wes and I'd even say Anderson who's work rate for the team is second to none.

In terms of next season I expect him to still be at the club, whether he is our first choice right back or still in the utility role, either way I hope he doesn't go in the summer.

Yes, but thats not enough. Many players are honest and hard working, but it doesnt make them GOOD. I dont think Perch is good enough for the championship, thats just my opinion, but like you say everyone's entitled to their own. Remember the penalty he gave away v Derby with a needless challenge, playing at right back? He would clearly be a better bet, as anyone would, than Chambers at RB, but IMO, I'd like to see us sign someone better. Gunter would be perfect, but like you say, he probably wont come. Stranger things have happened though. We have enough local 'Nottingham' players running through the team now, we need to move forward with BETTER players. We could get some half decent money for Perch aswell so I'd like to see us cash in in the summer.

Perch is going to Derby with McGugan next season - we'll be in League 3

From the article I read, BD clearly sees the best position for Perch as centre back and feels that he has been played out of position and under rated thus far. Like they say, opinions are like arse holes and BD will do what he wants irrespective of what any of us think.

My Perch ratings:

Which sounds like most centre halves to be honest!

Now come on, you must have seen Nigel Quashie "Well Wide" play for us?

I can't remember Jimmy Perch even having a shot for us which shows how memorable they must have been. Whenever I think of him playing all I can remember are the (very frequent) times he tackled with his head. He keeps the stetcher bearers in a job. Having said that didn't he score against Swansea?

I like Perch and think this has been probably his best season so far. I think the best we've seen him at is the holding role breaking up play but it's obvious he needs someone alongside him who can do the pretty stuff.

Yes, we do have Gunter playing there - a promising nineteen year-old on loan from a Premiership team who cost Tottenham £3m. Do you see why it might be a good idea to start looking at our own, more realistic options for a right-back next year? Or do you think we're going to raid Tottenham for Chris Gunter long-term?

It's the same with all our loanees, they're not ours and there's no guarantee we could get them. Even if we could, the likes of Osbourne, Gunter, Anderson and McSheffrey are likely to have better sides than us looking at them. For what it's worth, I think it's telling that a succession of Forest managers actually rate James Perch. Literally every manager we've had wants him in their team.

???

Who's that aimed at? Who said we were keeping Gunter? We're keeping Gunter? Yes, we're keeping Gunter!

Thanks for the info EMX, but obviously you understand we'll have to be sceptical until there's a bald man in the car park.

Worth adding – going back a few points – that Perch thinks he's a centre-back too. He says exactly that in an interview in the latest issue of FourFourTwo.

Yes his new position next season will be on the bench, and to glamour him up Billy is going to let him wear abit of D&G training gear.

Perch is not a centre-back, nor good.

If he is in our team, let alone our central defence, next season we will be in big trouble....again.

Billy - what on earth are you thinking?

Perch IS a centre back. I watched him come up through the ranks playing in that position and he was outstanding. To the people who have only ever seen him play there once at Burnley don't be so eager to judge him, the whole team was pants that day.

I certainly hope he doesnt intend to use him anywhere in the defence, and especially centre back, that debacle being particularly compelling evidence why not.

i think he wants to play center back but to be honest i dont think that is his best position. Wes, Wilson even breckin are better than him at CB.

At RB he's ok but i'd rather have someone else.

CM, again there are better players than him, cohen osbourne, MOOOSSEEE, McGugan

By saying this i think he should leave for his own good, he just aint good enough
