Forest's best player this season is Cohen - OFFICIAL

Just stumbled across this on the 606 forum - http://actimindex.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/champ_index_top10031.gif

Not sure how these things are worked out, but interesting how it contradicts many fans' views that Cohen has been less than impressive so far. If he can play out of position at LB and still rate highly then that's pretty impressive no?

Another snippet on the main webpage - "Three players are sharing the most amount of time on the pitch and they are all from the same club. Nottingham Forest trio Chris Gunter, Wes Morgan and Lee Camp have all spent 1367 minutes sweating blood and tears for Billy Davies’ men this term."

Interesting. Cohens not looked that great (though has been improving a lot the more he's played at left back.)

I think the thing with these sort of rating systems is that a lot of the time effort is reward over quality.

You get points for tackles for example - now Cohens high rating could mean that teams have targets attacking down that side so he HAD to make more tackles than most people.

Just a thought, though it's good to see so many of our players in the top 100, though suprising that theres no Dexter?

Gunter's got the same rating and I think we'd all agree that he is the better full-back. Cohen is doing very well considering it's not his normal position though.

Wes would be top if it wasn't for the nine own goals that he's scoredthis season! :bigwes:

The game seems to be full of statistics these days, an American obsession that seems to be creeping in?

At the end of the day the only important statistic in any given week is whether Forest scored more goals than the opposition (or not).

I think its just bored commentators. You can tell they're loaded with them, ready to go.

Say we're on telly, and Earnie gets his first kick of the ball and is scythed down. The commentator has bogger all to talk about in the break of play and will straight away start waffling about how he was Forest's top scorer last year, or that he scored so and so many goals for Wales.

The folks in the media have it even worse in a way, the commentator on telly has 90 minutes to fill, these lot have a whole weeks worth of web sites and newspaper back pages!

If there was one player that I thought would score highly in this kind of system, it's McKenna. Keeps its simple, rarely loses the ball, covers lots of ground, makes lots of tackles.

Majewski and Blackstock haven't played in every match, so they're disadvantaged compared to others.

How is the Actim Index calculated?

Complex mathematical formulae were devised to calculate the value of each player’s contribution, match by match. In simple terms, the Actim Index comprises four calculations:

Calculation 1 – Assesses a player’s contribution to a winning team, based on points won by the team when he appeared.
Calculation 2 – Assesses a player’s performance in each game, by allocating points for actions that positively contribute to a winning performance such as shots, tackles, clearances and saves. It also takes points away from players for negative actions such as yellow/red cards and shots off target.
Calculation 3 – Allocates points based on time on the pitch.
Calculation 4 – Allocates points for goal scorers.
Calculation 5 – Allocates points for assists.
Calculation 6 – Allocates points for clean sheets.

The problem with stats like these is that they do not take into accounts players that produce magic moments. For example, Raddy is not there, despite the fact that has probably won us 3-4 games this season with his crucial goals and killer passes.

Mckenna does tend to give the ball away when he tries long passes, similar to Des Walker, maybe that's why he keeps it simple most of the time.
