Nottingham Forest are to sign Nicky Shorey on emergency loan from Aston Villa.
The England international will be committed to The Reds until the end of December - although Villa will have the right to recall him at 24 hours notice after the first 28 days of his loan.
The 28 year old will link-up with Forest on Thursday and is expected to make his debut in Saturday's home date with Doncaster (kick-off 3pm).
Shorey, who has been capped twice by England, launched his career with Leyton Orient but shot to prominence with Reading. In a seven-year spell at The Madejski Stadium he made more than 300 league and cup appearances and was voted Reading's greatest ever left back in a supporters' poll.
He joined Villa for an undisclosed fee in 2008 following Reading's relegation from the Premier League but has struggled to hold down a regular first team spot.
He made 19 top-flight starts for Villa last season and has made three league and cup appearances this term.
