Forest rock stars

Forever Forest

There was a thing on sky Sports news tonight about Andy Reid in a band. We also had Paul Mcgregor who became a rock star and another ex player, who's name I cant think off who was on 'life after football' on SSN today was also a rocker.

Psycho liked a good headbang.

What is it with Forest players and music?

Yep, Paul McGregor was in a band called Merc. Piece in When Saturday Comes ... http://www.wsc.co.uk/content/view/2514/29/

In other band/Forest related news Sultans of Ping FC were Forest fans & even released a free flexi-plastic single (thro' Forest fanzine?) in the early 90s. 'Give him a yard of space (& the ball at his feet)' was a paean to the mercurial talents of Nigel Clough. With a bit of luck (?) someone's probably got a battered copy somewhere, maybe even find it in Selectadisc ...

John Burns is the other one that you're trying to think of ... band is called "The Establishment" ... didn't we play some of their stuff at half time at one of our home matches some time ago while they came on the pitch and waved to the crowd ... or is my memory playing tricks ?

Paul McGregor played in a band, it's a bit over the top to say he was a "rock star".

For those that don't know, Andy Reid had a financial interest (and may still do) in the famous Running Horse pub, home to many fine live bands in Nottingham.

He has played their himself also, he tends to go for a blues/folk acoustic style rather than anything more 'modern' ;)

James Dean Bradfields a Forest fan also int he?

Scot Gemmill used to DJ at some Nottingham venues. I remember he used to have a somewhat striking 'Stage Name' - DJ Jon of the Wicked Bitches or something like that...

Not any more he doesn't. It went under new management, then closed altogether. The people who took over it are now relocated to a place called The Central, which used to be a gay bar but is now a music venue.

The Establishment play at the Southbank quite a lot. In fact they played at the LTLF 2009 Calendar launch.

Are you thinking of "Jon of the pleased women"? As that was a transexual DJ back in the 90's. Was very popular in clubland around that time.

Never knew Scotty DJ'ed

You reminded of the time when scotty single handedly destroyed the bundippers at the CG. I think Glover made a rare start too and scored. Good times.

As I remember, Merc were an indie shuffling type of band - McGregors new(ish) band are full-on Towers of London wannabees, leather jackets with tassels, bandanas, I can't for the life of me remember the name. I'll post a linky when I can

Report from the 2009 Offset Festival:

The famously prickly Ulterior follow Detachments and Fiction, the latter appearing to be surprisingly good on passing. Ulterior have had a lot of stick for being at the forefront of the dark-rock scene, where they were alone for a long time, and this has only extended their somewhat alarming temper. Their singer, Paul McGregor, has the fire of Liam Gallagher and the look and voice of Axl Rose. But indeed, they are not at all like either Oasis or Guns ‘n’ Roses, more reminiscent of Suicide and Spacemen 3. At the end of their set, Paul McGregor thanks those standing up and curses those who remained sitting - a typically irate comment.

I think Scotty's name was inpsired by/a piss take of the afforementioned Tranny club-hopper.
