Forest player shirt early 77/80

I have recently picked up a 1977/1980 player shirt - or so I was told and just want to pick your brains to confirm it is kosher.

Would the Forest logo be felt embossed or embroidered?

Where would it have been made?

The one I had from that era was Adidas plain red matt cotton and the Forest & Adidas logos were white vinyl stamped on and they started to crack and de-laminate with washing. No adverts. If I remember correctly the 3 Stripes on the sleeve were on a single sewn-on band.

The first lot of shirts in 1977 were as described by Le Juif Rouge.

The second batch (or first batch of what were known as "silky shirts" were pretty much the same except made out of some shiney nylony vicosey material. Same crap iron on badge that flaked off to much annoyance.

Later shirts (I think with the "European Cup Winners" embelishments) had some kind of felt like/flock badges that were much more resilient.

I don't recall replica shirts having an embroided badge - although if this is a "player shirt" maybe the team had better quality shirts than us plebs. The replica shirts were all long sleeve at the time although the players could have either (the guy that ran the first supporters' shop near Vic Centre told us that their wives had to shorten the sleeves themselves - but then he also said that the bags of Argentina 78 style bits of red and white paper were specially engineered to rise on the heat coming out of the stand which was bollocks).

A picture would help. I've seen some with overly large adidas badges in the past.

this one looks real and has embroided badges (shows what I know - but then I bought one of the first ones in 1977 then didn't buy another shirt till 1988 and it is a 1979/1980 season shirt not a 1977/78 )

(no adidas label inside and no white cuff on the sleeve, red too dark)

Yep, the actual shirt John McGovern wore in one of the finals (I forget which one). Would be pretty bad if that was fake.

I will include some images below.

The Forest badge is felt/flock but the Adidas logo is heat transfer and the neck label just looks too young - early 90's I would have guessed but the chap I got it off claimed to have got it from a (unnamed) coach at the club. The label also says made in Bulgarien.

It just doesn't feel right

Memory is poor, but I'm sure I remember my shirt having an embroidered badge - it had a circular disk of material inside which held the construction together. However, this could be a lter version, like I say, poor memory.

The only thing that struck me from your photos is the label seems too modern - colour print on textiles.

I don't think they did or would make the Adidas logo and badge of different materials - looks like the badge has been added later. Also I agree the inner label is too modern. I am sure my cotton '77 and even my pinstripe silky '81? had very simple inside labels.

Yeah - both badges were the same construction - plus the flock forest badges looks to crisp. Although they were better the flock badges used to wear a bit. The short sleeved version had white cuffs too and the numbers are all wrong - it should look like

The label shown in my earlier post shows what it should have looked like.

The adidas "3 stripes"look wrong too - they were sewn on in one strip of 3 stripes (I remember because the stitching broke on mine and they came off)

Yeah you're right - I was going from memory - my later post shows one with embroided badge that was used 1979/80 onwards (after the euro cup win). The original ones were only those gash iron on transfers.
