Forest new ground saga....

OK, as I'm so wholeheartedly against the new ground idea I thought I'd keep the conversation going and hopefully people won't just give up and start thinking, 'oh well, I could use the extra legroom'

So through the other thread about away fans (which admittedly might not be true) the powers that be are showing themselves to seriously lack credibility in anything they tell us, if miraculously it turns out that it is possible to move the away fans.

Bearing this in mind I simply don't believe we can't rebuild the main stand and stay in our magnificent stadium. Anyway, the point of my rant is this.

http://www.netphasetwo.com/07/clifton_a_to_z_maps.asp

I came across the proposals for the new tram, and strangely enough it veers off to the left, and all the way to the edge of the city at Clifton, not particularly useful for your football fan wanting to travel from the city to West Bridgeford for the Forest game. So is this simply a matter of logistics, or is it all part of a scheme to relocate us down there, dangerously close to Leicestershire.

As anyone who has ever paid attention to my ramblings will know, I often jump to the defence of Doughty, Arthur or anyone else at the club who is subject to the usual moronic and thoughtless football fan type criticism. But here I think the will of the fans is being completely disregarded, and there is a desire to use NFFC as a puppet for World Cups and new supermarkets etc at the south of the city.

Thoughts? or am I overreacting over a simple map.

It is Clifton via Wilford. The idea is that the players can go back to the academy after the game on the tram and meet all the little baby players that live in the academy.

I recall reading the other day that the Broadmarsh redevelopment plans have been put back another two years (click). With the imminent expiry of planning permission and compulsor purchase orders, new enquiries will likely have to be held, delaying things further.

They can't start to build the new tram line until the Broadmarsh Centre has been flattened, and the line itself will take 3-5 years to build, if it's like the first one.

Add to that the fact that we (England) haven't got the World Cup 2018 as yet, and even if we do there are other grounds in the vicinity that are also in with a shout...

The Clifton Mega-Toilet aka Doughty's Folly?

Let's hope he has more sense than money.

lets hope you're right sir flaggington. Perhaps the recession will have buggered up any plans as well. I do think there's bound to have been some sort of dialogue between the city and Forest though about this line, and our proposed Clifton ground though.

Don't let it happen people.

our ground is beautiful ! set by the Trent, couldnt imagine going anywhere else to watch Forest, the ground Brian Clough and Peter Taylor built :)

only change id make is having Peter Taylor's name up there on perhaps the main stand

why change location to not sell out elsewhere...?!?!

id suggest a sit in if this ever came about, everyone grab a chair and chain yourselves to them

I like the idea of us filling a 50,000 seater stadium, but it just isn't going to happen.

What we have is fine if you ask me - although I wouldn't be against rebuilding the Main Stand to make it more modern.

The City Ground is beautiful and as many others have commented, walking over Trent Bridge on my way to a match is one of my favourite things.

I hope we never move and perhaps just increase the capacity by a few thousand should we ever get back to the Premier League.

I honestly don't think Forest would fill anything above 35-40k.

And I'd be happy with a full ground at 30k than a quarter-empty one with a capacity of 40k.

We could move to meadow lane and have a full house? maybe a huge east midlands super stadium which we could share with derby?

I think the proposed move to Clifton/Gotham is completely dead. Thankfully!

The latest 'plan' was to incorporate it into a massive new development at Holme Pierrepont, but I can't see that going ahead now.

Forest take 4 from 6, so the usual moaning cadre need a new topic. A quick search of their bag of tricks finds 'The whole staidum issue'

Well it's either moan about the stadium or create a 'Back the Manager vs The Board' petition. ::)

great post :D

i dont understand the logic behind a new ground. could someone summarise?

the board, and the city of nottingham see the prospect of england maybe hosting the world cup (in 2012?) as a chance to make a huge chunk of wonga by seating 50,000 people at £50 a pop, rather than missing out because the city ground capacity is too small and the mainstand isnt presentable in comparison to the new shiny clean 'flatpack' grounds...

and thats about it I think.

although rich will probably disagree

I seem to recall they said that it would interfere with the nearby houses... or something of the sort...?

Does anyone think the everso slightly facist stewards will have a problem with 20,000 people bringing bags of chains to a match?

Makes the 'take your screw cap of that bottle' action look a little silly if everyone was allowed to bring chains with them.

Assuming your serious, if you knew how generally positive and supportive of all things Forest I am then you'd know how laughable that is.

I genuinely stumbled across these plans for the new tramlines and thought I'd put it up for debate. Even if we stick where we are it's a topic of conversation because I suppose if you live in Hucknall you can tram is all the way to the Trent, which is perhaps closer than station street.

I just think we should buy those houses that are potentially blocked by any new stand.

Then knock them down.

Also, extend the Trent End, push the river backwards and drown Meadow Lane. ;D

Indeed. It must literally be only a few houses on that street that would affected and I'm sure if they were generously looked after by our Nige some agreement could be reached.

When you think about other 'old' grounds like Brammal Lane or Elland road for example, they have stands which back right up to the road.

The Main Stand very fortunately has a large car park behind it, providing ample room for a large new stand. So the 50 or dudes there would have to park somewhere else, that wouldn't be hard to accomodate surely.

The whole thing clearly related to the council wanting to shift us, and our board being drawn in by the dangly carrot of money towards a new ground etc. Well sod the council, NFFC is our club so they deserve no say whatsoever in what we chose to do.
