Forest fans believe it or not, are very similar to millions of other clubs fans all over the country.

I have grown bored and despaired, of many of the comments posted on here, conspiracy theories, how Mark Arthur is undermining the club, how Nigel Doughty fails us all to man/woman and child by not squandering his own personal fortune on our entertainment.

How the TAP is a secret group dedicated to the demise of the club......... '' Ha ha, someone has bid £500,000 for this player, we will offer £2-50 and tell the fans we have tried to sign quality, then they wil buy more tickets ''

Most of all suprise suprise, Billy Davies is capable of throwing the rattle out of his pram and falling out with his own shadow......anyone who has talked to educated sheep fans cannot honestly say we were not warned, about this trait of his personality.

Last week I found myself in the deep south, listening to BBC Radio Solent, change the clubs name and fans accent........it could have been us, all what was needed was a striker, play maker in midfield and a defender, guarantee the Saints promotion, save Portsmouth from relegation and make Bournemouth the top side on the south coast.

The fans could see it, why on earth did the management not go out and get any number of players mentioned in the phone in.

Intrigued I have trawled many club web sites this week, looked at mirrors of ourselves, provincial clubs, they all have the same needs as ourselves, with a reoccuring plaintive cry for the Management/owners to go out and break the bank for that elusive player to guarantee a succesful season.

Where are the Strikers, ball winners and play makers in midfield and rock type manly defenders kept, because everyone wants them ?.........After all it is only money :(
 
amen. if you're panicking about a season after only three games (or four, if indeed you are reading this tonight, because we're not guaranteed a win) then you need to get your head checked or start "supporting" manchester united or similar ilk.

My worry is that underneath the normal moaning there appears to be a concerted effort to destabilise the club by destroying the relationship between BD and the owner. Eg plane-gate, the official warning bollocks, now this stupid story about the stewards. I'm not sure what they think they'll achieve apart from putting the club back into league 1. Maybe "they" are derby fans.
 
Excellent OP and I agree with RufusTFirefly that what has been most concerning about all this is the degree of sabotaging going on. Unfortunately, there are people who seem to delight in posting malicious bollocks, which can only ever have a damaging effect on the club and the team. It's true that objectively these people do behave like rival supporters, or the worst kind of gutter journalist...

1.sheep fans
2.tabloid 'journalists'
3.people with such weak egos that they have to constantly feed them
 
Nice post but I am still of the view that something is going on behind the scenes.
 
If you believe what is written on some forums, our Chairman Mr. Doughty is preparing to sell the club, and doesn't want to invest any more of his own (his own!) cash; the secretive TAP are in fact a branch of the Masons, hell-bent on destabilising the club and selling (or loaning) all our best players in to slavery, and our beloved Manager is an angst-ridden manic-depressive who hates everything, and everyone.

To be honest, I couldn't care less.

I'll be at the City Ground again today, cheering on whichever 11 blokes run out of the tunnel in the Garibaldi; and I'll raise my half-time pint towards the directors box at the Chairman, as with him in charge, whilst we might not be playing the likes of the so-called "Big 4" every week, we have a club to watch, with a decent young side, and we have made progress each season for the last three years.

Football should be entertaining; yes, we'd like Forest to be fielding the best players in the division - which club's fans wouldn't?

But in the modern game, that has to be balanced with keeping the club running as a viable business, and that is more important than a raft of signings ("stellar" ones or otherwise).

If it came down to being in the shoes of Portsmouth, Hull or (God forbid) the sheep shaggers, as opposed to decent, steady progress, I know which one I'd prefer.

And it wouldn't be gambling the long-term future of the whole club on a couple of signings that "might" get us promoted.
 
A great psychologist once wrote "it is not what other people think about us that is important; it is what WE think other people think about us". In other words personal perception is everything. Those that have convinced themselves of some form of conspiracy theory will not have their opinion or mind changed by anything short of two or three players being signed.

What concerns me is not "that underneath the normal moaning there appears to be a concerted effort to destabilise the club", but more specifically that this kind of opinion (which I have been guilty of at times), pointed out by Rufus will start to spread like some kind of parasitic outbreak. On top of the relatively poor start to the season we have had, this could very quickly spiral the fan base rapidly downward.

We all want signings, and we all know we need them. But to suggest that ND and MA would put the finances, image or future of the club at risk is utter nonsense.

However, I still stand by my original comments made some time ago that there is friction between BD and DP.

great post sedge to be fair I was thinking something simular last night, as you have said almost every set of fans are after more players and we are not alone, it has been frustrating but aslong as I still have a club to support and a ground to attend and 20,000+ trickys to share the ups and downs with then im happy.

forest seasons are like a druken shag lots of fumbling about at the begining before slowly settling into a rythm, a couple of changes of possition and then finnish with a frantic flurry that ends in dissapointment and leaving you feeling frustrated.
 
Sedge, I know what you are saying here but I'm not sure what point it serves. Yes, there are lots of fans in this country who feel their club hasn't done enough in the transfer market. But the vast majority of those clubs will remain mediocre for precisely that reason. Do we want to settle for mediocrity or actually go and achieve something again?

The day I see Forest as being 'just like any other club' is probably the day I stop being a supporter. It pains me to see awful clubs like Fulham, Bolton and Stoke making a consistent run of things in the Premiership while we still languish well below our potential. I know money isn't the only solution but the bigger clubs usually rise to the top in the end (because they can outspend). A club of Forest's stature could easily be a Top 10/Top 12 side in the Premiership, and we should have a Chairman whose spending is (at least rougly) proportional to the size of the club. At the start of last season I believed Doughty was that man.....but now I'm growing sceptical.

Also, I'd make the point that most clubs have made a couple of proper signings....we have so far made none. Selling one player for £1.5mn and making one loan signing would not be good enough for a club like ours. Forest should naturally be an attractive proposition for players, especially following last year's performance - so a failure to sign any quality players would surely be reflective of the Chairman's ambition? We have every reason to expect the Chairman to grasp this opportunity - not to break the bank, but at least strengthen the squad in 2 or 3 positions.

Before I go any further, I should stress that we need to assess this season's transfer activity on Wednesday morning before drawing any conclusions . Perhaps foolishly, I still believe Doughty will come up with the goods. I've generally been a supporter of his in the past. But I make it clear - a couple of quality signings should be the MINIMUM we expect from this transfer window. Cardiff have made about eight! If a disgraceful club like Cardiff can find a wealthy Chairman who will back them, why shouldn't Forest have the same?

Haha! Good analogy. So what I'm really saying is, if you invest in a bit of quality foreplay it's more likely to end with a screaming orgasm.
 
Forest appear to be the only club to have someone confidently come out and say players wanted to sign, only turn us into a laughing stock by it all being bollocks.

I really should have left this till Wednesday evening before posting it.
 
All this is getting quite poisonous now and seems to be transmitting to the players.
Even if there wasn't a problem behind the scenes in the club before all this conspiracy theorising could be a destabilising influence and creating problems that weren't there before.

If we either don't either get a couple of last minute signings or start winning games very soon, it is going to spiral out of control and the self-fulfilling prophesy will indeed come true and we will have a nightmare season on our hands.

The internet can be a curse.

Tripe posted on forums doesn't affect players or staff. The sounds coming from spectators mouths and arses at the grounds do.

Well yes, fans at the ground read internet ramblings too.
A Norwich fan I know has messaged me this morning and said he could tell something was going off at Forest from the vibe he was getting from the Forest fans walking to the ground.

Ah, you mean the money we were all led to believe by the club directors that WOULD be spent before many of us shelled out for season tickets? If there are reasons it cannot be spent then fine...but why are fans of this club always in the ****ing dark about what's going on?
 
you could definately feel the vibe from the fans at the game yesterday. Even mr positive next to me who thinks no forest player can do any wrong was moaning.

When was this said? Besides the fact that i shelled out on an ST to see Forest. Not because we might sign a player.

What alarms me is the Billy Davies issue. Put simply, I can't stand him.

He and his staff appear to have infected the City Ground with undue pessimism, infact even the players are now talking from his pathetic hym book about requireing more signings.

Mr Doughty needs to watch things closley because if he dosn't it will spiral out of control. Id like to know what Billy Davies gets out of football because its certainly not exactly joy is it. We need someone that likes the game still, not someone salivating at the sound of his own deluded pessimism
 
So just stop looking for the stanley knife to slit your wrists, take a peek about some of the other clubs forums............suprising amount of unrest out there in football supporters land..........why, because those useless gits in charge of their clubs, know sweet fanny adams and fail to splash the cash...or have bought a donkey or two.
