I much prefer the old Forest crest. Why did we change it to the tree? Would love to get the old badge back again.

Think it was down to Forest not possessing the copyright.

Have to agree. The tree is clean, simple, and instantly recognisable, and I'll bet that most football fans around the world who've heard of Forest can identify it.

Fancy crests might give the impression of age and tradition, but in the end they all look the same - naff at best.

Yeah the tree logo is owned by Forest and is copyrighted due to the "e" being lowercase and the other letters being Capitals FOReST

The City of Nottingham Arms are, without question the most attractive and elegant in Western Europe. Hence the reason there's a large one on my flag.

Tis a pity about the copyright issue.

The old arms used to enable you to travel on the Tube in London unmolested. The meatheads looked at it and assumed rugby. They mostly cannot read well enough to make out NFFC, and read it as NRFC and assume the game with the odd-shaped ball.

The tree is VERY recognisable....

I can remember the competition to design the new badge.

I wonder where the person that designed the tree is now. It still feels a bit 1970's. Then again, Forest feel a bit 1970's.

We changed to the present badge following a competition in the Nottingham Evening Post in the mid-70's. The tree represents a Forest (obviously), the trunk represents strength and the river (again obviously) represents the River Trent.

I used to like that gay Robin Hood one we used have!

I have a feeling that the Castle on the top of the shield is not Nottingham Castle but rather a representation of Jerusalem. Hence the Star of David (Magen David) & the Crescent Moon and the 3 Kabbalistic towers. Needless to say it harks back to the Crusades as does "The Trip" of course.
Much more Jewish than Tottenham's stupid "Kosher Chicken Logo" ;D

I think I preferr the Tree, very simple... and many people recognise it, straight away

No wonder my post count..
I prefer the tree also. Graphically, it's a great logo - instantly recognisable as someone else said.

Probably the most recognisable badge in football? I challenge you to find a football fan who wouldn't automatically recognise it as our badge when shown it.

Whilst I love the tree, that's a bit strong.

If I went to African village X they would far more likely recognise Man Utd's badge than ours.

The original crest contains two of the gayest looking stags I've ever seen..

Also, I was wondering - Is it supposed to be the River Trent at the base of the tree on our current badge?

What does the Latin say on the crest? I really can't remember now. :(

Good point about the stags I prefer the Tree... best badge and team in football...it is supposed to represent the Trent river under the Tree

Clearly that accolade should go to Torquay.

I think the tree is the best club logo in circulation today, i wear it most days. On days i dont wear a tricky tree or england logo i wear a shirt with the nottingham crest - i think of them as my terry hennessey shirts. I prefer the old crest by far.

;D ;D ;D

Except that they think ManUre's Badge is "AIG" ! ;D
Back in the 1980's there was an Indian trader near us selling kitbags with "Manchester United" emblazoned on them except they were in Sky Blue and White with the old ManCity badge. I expect it was a job lot of mistakes or someone with a great sense of humour. ;D

In the 70s when we changed the badge , I wrote to Martin Oneill to ask him if I could have the old badge of his. (because I was 15 at the time and really fancied him). He replied with said badge and we kept writing to each other for 2 years. Sigh. . . . what could have been.
