Forest Chants

Tommy Durham

A. Trialist
I am currently writing an assignment around the topic of football chants/songs in particular those of Nottingham Forest. Specifically, i am seeking to determine what they represent to various Forest fan(s), i.e. memories held in chants, feelings towards other fans, for e.g. your relation to Mull Of Kintyre pre-match and how it makes you feel etc,
- it would be great if you could share your experiences, feelings, thoughts below...
Cheers!

anthems like this give me a sense of pride, and a way for all fans to unite and give their voice and their cupport to their team, as well as showing their devotion and passion to the opposition fans.

I'll miss the Mull of Kintyre when we move, unless we change it to

'OH CITY GROUND, OH MIST ROLLING OVER THE A52'

Chants are the supporters' identity.

Every team has a slightly different way of singing essentially the same song - The variations on "Oh when the saints go marching in" - and not just the different team names are unique to each club. Some have a really slow "Ooooooooooohhhhhhhh wwwwhhhhhhheeeeeeennnnnnnn tttthhhhhhhhheeeeeeee", whereas we, for instance have "OH NOTTINGHAM (oh nottingham) IS FULL OF FUN (is full of fun).." etc..

I like that teams have their own song - anything from "You fill up my senses" through "Marching altogether!" to "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" and "Blue Moon" - it also allows away fans some licence to take the pee..

I like some of our older songs "There's a Circus in the town (in the town), Robert Maxwell is a clown (is a clown) and Arthur Cox has got the f*****g pox...D***y County's Going Down (going Down)!"- "Stand up if you hate D***y" just isn't quite the same...

Basil me owd amigo, I much prefer the "Robert Maxwell he has drowned (he has drowned)" version, that came out shortly after the untimely demise of the fat b**tard. :D Till we meet again
