Forest an attractive club to come to?

With our recent failure to attract players to come and play for us coupled with our inability to bring players in last term, I was thinking to myself, are we really an attractive club to come and play for?

Why are players reluctant to come? Is it just about ND and the TAP or is there more?
 
It is irrelevant whether we are attractive or not. How are we going to sign players when we won't pay their true value.

We should be.

We're a 'big club', we get big crowds, we've got good training facilities and according to the top brass we have plenty of money and are dead set on promotion...
 
Surely it depends on the player?

We're not an attractive club to Ricardo Fuller but might well be to Chris Zebroski.
 
An attractive club?

Depends what you mean by "attractive". We *are* a "big name" (known worldwide).

We have a fabulous history, decent crowds, and (apparently) great training facilities.

But to many players, it's all about the size of the pay packet - the bigger the wage, the more attractive the club.

And in that, we are probably not amongst the higher payers in the division, due to the club's prudent policies - and quite right too. We shouldn't jeopardise the future of the club to pay excessive wages, it does seem Forest try and live within their means.
 
Mark Arthur told us all that 2 players (the interview led everyone to believe he meant Prately and Whittingham) wanted to come to Forest.

The problem does not at the moment appear to be one of attracting players but one of agreeing a fee for them.

agree with that but the problem is do we pay stupid money to get said players in or play the waiting game hoping we get them for the money that we think they are worth?
i personally think most football players are valued way to high, but thats the crazy world of modern day football and i can't see it changing anytime soon, it's all sky's fault i tell thee!!!!
 
I dont think a player would choose one club over another because of something he read in a history book. IMO we last had any success in the early 90s. I know some claim memories from the womb but i'll assume footballing memories start at 10 - so a player that can remember us doing well at wembley will now be about 30.

I guess fans that claim we are a big club are thinking of the FA Cup and European Cup wins - players that remember those won't still have the pace to make it in the championship.

I very much doubt that anyone outside of forest fans under 30 know anything about our history, to most 20 year olds forest have only ever been a championship club. ive come across people who think im winding them up when I say we have won European cups, league cups ect, a lad at work when talking about the play offs last season asked if we had ever been in the premier league !!!!!

I doubt any of the lads at Newcastle, West Ham and Norwich would think so, if they spoke to 'fans favourites' Perch, Smith and Grolt.

Just because Forest have been at the top, a player would still choose Blackpool over us, the allure of the prem is obvious.

The answer is so simple, it's shocking, a wage cap for the prem, champ, div 1, div, 2
Having everyone on a level playing field would be beneficial for footy

I think Platini wants this, Fifa want it. But top clubs don't, hence we will see a Euro league very soon.
 
There's far too many reasons why some players sign for some clubs rather than others. Don't forget that some players have young families to support and won't want to uproot them too often, some players are genuinely happy playing for their clubs (in the short-term at least), the age old problem of not being able to afford a high transfer fee and high wage demands. There's the increase in demands made by agents for their clients, some players will follow favourite managers around, some players might not be able to convince their wives to relocate, some will be quite happy to stay near their hometown and so forth.
This is all before we even consider training facilities, housing costs, whether new signings will gel with the existing squad or get on with the manager, chairman, fans, etc. History only counts for so much, it helped us no-end in league one, when we were signing league one players, but now in the championship we don't stand out quite so much.
