For those who can bear to watch

Hmm, from the way people were talking, I thought Smith had thrown the ball into the net rather than just got lobbed.

Football really is a simple game at times, isn't it.

Robbie Blake was a class act at the time we had him, not really an out and out goal scorer, but someone who could bring the best out of others around him.

McSheffrey could perhaps do the same, but I'm not sure a relegation battle is the place to find out.

Whose idea was it to play on a sandpit anyway?

As a Doughty apologist I can firmly say that not signing Mr. Blake, who's price tag was a mere fraction of what we have spent in total, looks a huge mistake. And that was clear long before yesterday.

Didn't turn my head to see it when it was on Goals on Sunday yesterday, and won't click the link. It joins the Cyprus 5-2 Ireland game in an exclusive band of games I refuse to watch.

well I let the missus happily delete the championship from the sky+ planner yesterday (she likes deleting stuff)

I figured it would be too much like watching a car crash

Couldn't help but laugh at the first goal!
It's so terrible, that it's hilarious.
The third and the fifth as well! Absolute comedy! Time is running out for sorting these things out...

I thought the same. We really need to get off the poor blokes back and get behind him. His our number 1 till the end of the season, and all the negative comments and booing is not gonna help him or the club when they need it most.

Have to say, what was Smith doing for their third goal? Other than that, he didn't seem to do much wrong...
Still, we would have won if their pitch hadn't been a cabbage patch.

The highlights didn't snow Smith in a particularly good light.

Equally, they didn't show anybody in a particularly good light.

He could have done better with most of the goals. A confident, on form Smith would have dealt with them all.

Equally, the team could have done a hell of a lot better. Did Chambers forget to pack his legs?

with all respect Rich - Smith may be a good shot stopper, but there is no way he was getting anywhere near the 4th or 5th, on form or evidently, at present.

And as for the lob comment, any keeper who has watched any of Robbie Blake's free kicks knows he's going to shoot from there, so why leave the line?!

Other than that, he didn't have a bad game and most of the criticism is as usual, unjustified

He probably left the line because if he didn't all the idiots would be getting their ropes ready.

Which, if it is the case, demonstrates why he shouldn't be playing (ideally) at the moment - if he is willing to sacrifice the immense skill he undoubtedly possesses as a result of the idiots behind him who don't properly understand goalkeeping.

Since we have no viable alternative at the moment I guess we're stuck with it!

Lets be honest, the defence essentially handed them the ball for the fifth. It was joke defending.

For the first, the big 'mistake' that everyone has been banging on about was that he edged forward to enable him to take a cross. Whilst some people will bang on about it, hardly anyone seems to have noticed that he started doing this when Billy Davies came in. It's served him relatively well in the past few weeks.

I'm getting really tired of the diatribe aimed at him. As I said in the other thread, the abuse levied at him, and the blame apportioned to him does nothing but exonerate the other players from what was clearly a terrible performance.

I don't disagree and have tried to stay away from all the debate to be honest because it is getting dull. It was infuriating to hear what seemed like the entire crowd blaming him for the performance though, when it was clear that the team as a unit (which is stretching the term) were awful.

The fact that after letting the first goal in, he was loudly booed by his own fans, told he was a w**ker and to f*** off as he went down the tunnel, probably gives him a lot of confidence. ::)

Eddie said it in the Smith thread I think, I've never felt like I wanted to actually thump a Forest fan as much as I did Saturday ...

Get off his back and get behind the team ... to quote the guy who had to be held back in his defending of Smith 'Look Tyson just shot wide, you going to boo him?'

Take a closer look at the goals, I'm going to feel like Alan Hansen after this!
1st goal. Smith maybe could of done better.

nlzdop.jpg

Burnley 2nd goal; Surely the defence should of cleared it! 6 players in that picture and not one was able to tackle Blake coming into the area.

6zca35.jpg

3rd one, this is the cross, what ends up to be headed in, again defence maybe should of been tighter.

23uuc2f.jpg

4th, Chambers couldn't cut it out and lets the man cut inside to shoot

eg740m.jpg

5th, Defence didnt clear very well, comes out to Gudjonsen to let fly. Defence yet again let us down.

It's very easy to blame Paul Smith for most of the goals, but really, the defence didn't do the best in nearly any of them goals. They had a lot of bodies back, but couldnt do ote.

If the guy hadn't have scored, he could have pulled it back to the other unmarked player.

Interestingly, said unmarked player is exactly where an unmarked big fat lad for Preston scored from.

For the third goal Smith was too far off his line and eventually looked very shit on that one...

The 1st and 4th just look unlucky..

The 2nd the defense should have cleared it and Chambers got ripped to shreds...

The 5th - Smith couldn't really do much there....given too much space and no pressure.
