For The Safety of Away fans...

Hi,

Before yesterdays ground i purchased the 'Evening Post' and it stated that in the last 5 home games, travilling supporters have contacted the club complaing about the amount of objects and spit that had been occuring in the Bridgford end directed at the away fans below.

Following on from this: i mentioned this to a steward in the ground and he said that they are planning on putting at safety net around the bridgeford upper tier to prevent items being thrown down to the away section for saftey reasons.

This was before Wolves, I dont know if this continued throught the game?? ???

I don't see why they don't just make use of their very extensive CCTV to deal with it if it is indeed as bad as is being suggested.

Given that 2 of our last 5 away games have been against the Sheep bleaters, I suspect it isn't.

Spitting on the away support below is disgusting and anyone found doing it should be given a lifetime ban.

Anyone seen throwing anything down on away supporters should not only be banned for life but also prosecuted for assult.

It cannot be condoned at all.

I sit in that general area and I haven't seen that much of it, so I wonder how much is being blown out of proportion. (Having said that, 1 incident is 1 too many).

Much easier, aesthetically pleasing and better all round for me would be:

Put up a decent rail at the Bridgford end of the BC stand, top to bottom - 1 block in from the right as you look, UPSTAIRS AND DOWN, and do the same 1 block round the corner into the Bridgford stand.

Make that the Away section.

Thus, the Away fans are above away fans, and below away fans. If they want to go dropping pies on themselves, that's up to them.

At the same time, away fans are then offered the choice of touchline seats, goal line seats or corner seats, all both upstairs or down - what could be fairer than that?

Keep a small section empty (the legendary black cloth) - for "safety" purposes, except where a game is V busy, then you have a line of coppers/stewards. (You see this the whole time on MOTD - Chelsea/Liverpoo fans separated by a thin green line, so they can't say "it's impossible"...

Oh - the other benefit? Home fans behind both goals.

Away fans back in the day used to have the corner section of the Bridgford terrace and the 2 lower blocks of the BC stand at that end, then additional sections of terrace as required. So it CAN be done.... You get the away buses to come in on Scarrington Road....straight to the away corner....

The other problem the Club's got now is that if it trots out the "we can't have away fans in the BC stand because of safety concerns" usual bollocks, it's clearly not true.

Exactly, you could even put a glas/perspex screen betweent he fans so no policing of that area either. Seems they use this in a few grounds on the continent.

Totally agree.
We need both goals back.
How is it not safe? If they dont want fans mingling just do what loads of other clubs would do and state before that game( like they did v wolves ) that the away fans in that section would be held back for 10 mins.

Perfect solution, eminitely sensible and practical. Economic too. Great idea.

Won't ever be adopted because there is no way the club would want to be seen giving the supporters what they want.

You are missing the most important part.

I AM NOT MOVING!!

One block upper and lower in the BC Stand will do them.

If Billy Davies wants us to support the team let us have bridgeford lower. Put the away fans in the lower clough.
This means less hassle with the throwing of objects.
Tell the stewards to be slightly lenient as long as things arnt gettin violent.

Are you SERIOUS about not moving, Winnits...?!! :D

Yes :p

And logistically it makes sense too - your proposition provides FOUR concourses that will provide segregation - Bridgford Lower, Upper and BC Lower, Upper.

It would be a much simpler operation to simply have them in the BC Lower as there'd then be only a single concourse to put some segregation into, or at a push the upper and lower for one / two blocks (you'd need some kind of movable barrier for the concourse).

BC lower just moves the spitting/pie problem (if there is one) round the corner.

The solution is to have away fans above and below each other. Doesn't really matter where specifically, I guess, but they'd need to be up and down..

Nobody would stir the Upper BC folks into such actions, they barely breathe!

You could just not sell those seats except as a last resort - it's not like we will be selling out anytime soon on a regular basis.

It would be better if they actually just dealt with the perpetrators of such acts (which I think are vastly over-exaggerated) and handed out appropriate bans, end of problem. Plenty of grounds have home fans above away fans.

I dont know to be honets i think if they moved the away fans into lower BC and sold season tickets in the lower bridgeford behind the goal it wouldnt surprise me if there were alot of the cap1 following move right behind that goal.

A-block was never the hotbed of passion that it is now until they put the Away fans next to it.

If you put the away fans downstairs-only anywhere, in time the meatheads will move in above and start dropping stuff - as is apparently the case now.

I'm not convinced it is the case, or at least not in the frequency being implied by the recent comments.

I agree with you that once is too many times, however Forest have a very expensive and very extensive CCTV system to detect incidents such as this - I would suggest to them that they use it as it is designed!

Although I do think we should be enabled to reclaim the Bridgford Lower from away fans - if nothing else there'll be an exodus of the undesirables in my bit to sit there. And hopefully a few educated folks who can remind them not to sing things like 'You've never won f*** all' at teams like Wolves.

Put a screen up around the directors area or whatever its called in main stand, and give all the away support that stand, if they wreck it, its doing us a favour :)

actually.....that's given me an idea...

Aside from the tea room/bar, there's nothing tying the directors to the Main Stand.

Move the Directors box to the BC stand - knock some of the boxes together - sure most of 'em would appreciate being in the warm a bit...

...then as you say, turn the Main Stand in its current form over to Away fans.

Edit - Probably strike that....

just looked on Wikipedia, and it says Main Stand holds 13,000. That can't be right, can it?

There problem of which the away coaches wont be able to park isnt a problem either as there is a huge car park behind this stand.
