The 7 games to Derby are looking good. With each passing game at the moment the next game always seems to be another we can relish in advance the prospect of seeing further evidence in the development of what is looking more and more like a great squad. There appears ot be nothing to worry and us and plenty of opportunity.
And in the lead up to Derby some of the games have significance beyond the 3pts available, in part they also offer an opportunity to banish some ghosts. Obviously we can view Preston today as important for BD and McKenna. Watford on boxing day is important as a) it was our last loss; b) the visit to Vicarage Road when the boss got to see the spineless nature of the side when we failed to compete against a poor Brendan Rogers' side; and c) boxing day was probably the bottom of the pit last season.
Then we have three West midland's teams. Coventry has little meaning and while not wanting disrespect them, its not a game we should be concerned with anything but winning. Then its Brum in the FA Cup, which could be our first defeat as the Big Heck has them playing well at the moment and flying high in the prem. But of course there is some history here as Davies and McLeigh both played with each other at Motherwell (in my opinion  ) and where they both got their managerial breaks, Davies follwing McCleish. The worry for this game is that it breaks the stride. I'm hoping that Brum want to concentrate on the prem and give us a bye. And then we have a Friday night visit to the Hawthorns. I suspect that this game will be a battle for 2nd place. Although I would expect this game to be a hard fought battle, its not one we should fear and the squad should be up for a bit of revenge after West Brom robbed the points when they came to city ground in a match when we probably first saw the craft of this side at work.
At the beginning of the season the visit of Reading would have held some amount of trepidation for most fans. Not any more. How things change? And Paul Hart's return to the City Ground in his new role as gaffer of the Jekyll & Hide hoops. Hopefully he'll fail to find the consistency his visit leaves him with a sense of de ja vu and perhaps a little thought of what could of been,
So, if we come out of that run of games and continue to be bang on form we should arrive at Pride Park with just one task left to complete in our reconstruction as footballing force. This will be Billy's first real retutn to Pride Park and a good victory here will be the icing on the cake. Personally, I'm hopeful that this could be the game when the biggest ghost of all will be excorcised and the legacy of Clough senior is finally consigned to rest in peace at the shrine of football, prominent but in the background, and new era of footballing glory can truly be said to have been establish at Forest.
In summary, I suspect we're in for a verry merry xmas and prosperous start to the new year.
