Five Year Contract

If Davies keeps up our form and we finish well, should he be given his 5-yearer?

OK right so... read the threads about the Audience With and then vote in this here poll. Personally I reckon if we just miss the playoffs or better, we give him a five year contract and keep the acquisitions board as it is because THIS SHIT WORKS. More to the point, Billy Davies is a very, very good manager. So long as the contract says he'll stay if Man U come in and we want to keep him, let him sign one, let's get the stability we need and consolidate our best asset.

I think he should definitely put his sacking suit into storage for a while.

Whilst my heart screams yes, my head says steady on a little while, the economy is still bouncing along in the gutter, no one knows the state either football or Forest's finances will be in three years from now.

With many and complicated proviso's, based on say League position, division competing in, amount spent on transfers, incoming finances from sponsors, television and gate receipts, then look for an extended period, but it is essential for both NFFC and BD that they do not tie themselves together in some form of macabre death wish

I think so.

I agree a manager needs a long term aim. If he is the right man for the job which I think he has most definately proven so far then he should be rewarded with a long term deal and some security.

However, it does mean a major pay out if things do end up going tits up. But at the moment in particular I can't see that happening.

For me it depends entirely on if/when we get into the premiership under him. If ND (which I do hope he does) Feels BD is entitled to remain manager regardless of how the season goes when we go into the premiership i.e. Megson at West Brom. For me he would deserve that first season minimum and then should we get relegated the oppurtunity the next season to get us promoted again. If he fails but still has the squad he wanted for the premiership then would be the time to say "you haven't done your job you're no longer our manager"

It depends entirely on what the chairman thinks though. If it were me, I would give him the season in the premiership and take it from there.

After listening to him last night, and seeing what we have achieved so far, and seeing how he and his team have brought on the likes of Wilson and Morgan, I would say yes.

It is likely to be a bumpy, and at times controversial, ride but I'd rather us be on it than someone else.

I recall an arrogant, controversial manager in the past who did a reasonable job for us, and he wasn't as tactically astute as Billy.

There, I've said it!!

One thing I have found myself thinking about is, 'if we get promoted, should we sit at the bottom of the league all season and get relegated, should we stick by Billy ?'

My answer ? From my view at this moment in time, Yes !

Think the guy is great but would rather see an open ended rolling contract myself, with fantastic bonuses for success. A 5 year contract would be great for Billy but what is any contract worth these days? I'd be interested to know the maximum period of time he has stayed at any club and I don't think Doughty would be prepared to risk massive pay offs to Billy and his boys IF it didn't work out.

The problem is that leaves us wide open to have him poached at no cost to any other club. Whilst I like that that Forest have been using this for some time, Billy is showing he isn't a flash in the pan, and I firmly believe we need to tie him down !

Good point and see what your saying but if he wants to go, as with any other manager, he'll go whether he's got a 5 year contract or not. The only benefit in this scenario is the compo we'd get, which would be minimal lets say 2M, other than that it's all in the manager's favour

No manager should ever be given a five-year contract. Irrespective of how good he is, it would be stupid to render him unsackable.

They should start by putting up a new nail for him to hang his jacket from, he looks as if he is going to be here for a long while!

Let the good times roll

Three years is the most I'd offer a manager, always make them aware that they're earning a new contract and that they're always under threat so that if things go pear shaped you're not lumped with a massive bill to pay if you decide to get rid. You don't need a five year contract for a five year plan as you're contract can be renewed.

No, Doughty is still wary after he trusted David Platt, so a 5 year deal seems unlikely.

3 years is a little more realistic though.

Dammit, Brog agreed with me. Can I change my vote? Obviously I'm wrong. :(

No wonder my post count..

Agreed. Only 7 managers in the football league have surpassed 5 years. As much as I'd love it, I can't see Billy staying in his post for more than 3 years. That is unless we constantly finish in the playoffs for the next few years, or we keep a mid table run in the premiership.
