In his recent after match interviews i'm sure you've heard Billy Davies referring to 'Big spending Derby'.

Shall we look at the cost of assembling Saturdays starting elevens:

Nottingham Forest's starting line up - Smith, Chambers, Morgan, Breckin, Heath, Anderson, Perch, McGugan, Cohen, Earnshaw, Tyson.

Loans / Through the ranks - cost £0 - Morgan, Heath, Anderson, Perch, McGugan,

Transfer fees paid - Smith £500,000, Chambers signed (approx £50,000), Breckin £350,000, Cohen signed (approx £600,0000, Earnshaw £2,650,000, Tyson £675,000. Total cost £4,825,000.

Derby County's starting line up - Bywater, Connolly, Nyatanga, Albrechtsen, McEveley, Barazite, Green, Savage, Davies, Hulse, Commons.

Free Transfers / Loans / Through the ranks - cost £0 - Connolly, Nyatanga, Albrechtsen, Barazite, Green, Commons.

Transfer fees paid - Bywater £225,000, McEveley £600,000, Savage £1,500,000, Davies £750,000, Hulse £1,750,000. Total cost £4,825,000.

So there you have it. Forest's starting line up cost £4,825,000 to assemble and big spending Derby's ? Well £4,825,000 :p

yeah we know, billy talks shit.

Here is Another statistic regarding ages of the starting line ups...

Bywater: 27

Connolly: 25
Nyatanga: 20
Albrechtsen: 28
McEveley: 24

Barazite: 18
Green: 25
Savage: 34
Davies: 21

Commons: 25
Hulse: 29

Average age: 25.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Smith: 29

Chambers: 23
Morgan: 25
Breckin: 33
Heath: 20

Anderson: 20
Perch: 23
McGugan: 20
Cohen: 21

Earnshaw: 27
Tyson: 26

Average age: 24.

Looks like Forests 'young' and 'cheap' squad couldn't cope with Derbys 'old' heads and 'expensive' players.

hope this now proves my argument that billy davies is clueless, and tbh boys i havent posted this to be a t-wat ive posted it because mst of you are divided about billy bull shit and thought you would find both fact intresting

Your pound for pound 'facts' are incorrect, simply because you are making assumptions. Assumptions and personal thoughts such as 'I bet hes on this much' do not = facts.

I see what you're saying, but player spending isn't just about transfer fees. If it was, we would probably have had Ben Watson with us all season, not to mention anyone else that slipped through the net.

The reality is that your parachute payments do give you access to players that we simply couldn't afford. For example, our team is crying out for a player in the Savage mould. Experienced, controls the game and is a bit of a bastard. The transfer fee of £1.5m is actually a lot more than I expected, but suppose we paid that, could be get near what you're dishing out to him every week? Not a chance.

As a complete guess, I would imagine your starting XI's wages are double or three times what our boys would be on. Obviously, we won't know for sure as wages aren't exactly in the public domain.

It's as simple as this anyway: Derby currently have a better team than Nottingham Forest. However, I do wonder if you can sustain the spending you're currently getting through every week without playing in a division that befits your budget. As decent as your team is, there is no suggestion that promotion is imminently possible next season, and from what I know about your finances, I would suggest that you would be unable to outlay the sort of money you've got in that team again.

We, on the other hand, have to stay up somehow this season, and then we should be in a position to invest a bit more. There's doubts about what kind of investment and how we'd go about it, but I would imagine we would invest. So the gap will close, and we should be able to compete with you much more freely.

Lastly, thanks for coming on here and making a valid point, instead of something childish.

Not even close. Try half of that and he's our highest paid player.

Smith, Cohen and Chambers were undisclosed fees, while I can't fault your basic argument there's a lot of guesswork in there.

You also have to count substitutes

You paid £2M for Villa and undisclosed fees for Todd and Sterjovski compared with our £300K for Wilson and a nominal fee for Macleary.

Technically Cohen cost £200k.

We paid £1.2m for both him and Davies, the majority of which was on Davies due to the intricacies of the sell-on agreements Yeovil had for the two players.

Savage is on a basic wage of 30k - Fact.

Commons is rumoured to be on 20k basic (More than Earnshaw) and also will have recieved a substantial signing on fee. (I have heard half a million)

Hulse, McEverley, Albrectsten are all probably on more than anyone but Earnshaw.

Lets not forget it is also a squad game (backups help keep the others on their toes, rest them when they need etc)

Carrol, Todd, Villa, Leacock, Barnes, Lewis, Pearson, Teale, Stewart wont be cheap.

Derby squad:

GKs
Roy Carroll, Stephen Bywater, Lewis Price (out on loan)

DEFs
Paul Connolly, James McEveley, Martin Albrechtsen, Jordan Stewart, Dean Leacock, Lewin Nyatanga, Claude Davies (out on loan), Tyrone Mears (out on loan), Mitchell Hanson, Jason Beardsley.

MIDs
Przemysław Kaźmierczak (on loan from Porto), Kris Commons, Robbie Savage, Mile Sterjovski, Steve Davies, Gary Teale, Paul Green, Miles Addison, Nacer Barazite (on loan), Ruben Zadkovic, Stephen Pearson, Giles Barnes (out on loan).

STs
Rob Hulse, Tito Villa, Nathan Ellington (on loan), Luke Varney, Chris Porter, Liam Dickinson (out on loan), Aleksandar Prijović (out on loan).

Squad of 32.

Nottingham Forest squad:

GKs
Paul Smith, Paddy Gamble, Shane Redmond (out on loan)

DEFs
Luke Chambers, Wes Morgan, Ian Breckin, Kelvin Wilson, Julian Bennett, Joe Heath, Brendan Moloney, Joel Lynch (on loan from Brighton), James Perch, Hamza Bencherif (debatable).

MIDs
Paul Anderson (on loan from Liverpool), Lewis McGugan, Chris Cohen, Guy Moussi, Garath McCleary, Matt Thornhill, Arron Davies, Garath McCleary, Mark Byrne, James Reid (debatable).

STs
Robert Earnshaw, Nathan Tyson, Joe Garner, Adam Newbold, Emile Sinclair (debatable).

Squad of 28, with at least three who have little or no chance of ever playing for the first team this season, so knock that down to 25, and we suddenly have seven players less than Derby to choose from.

That might not sound a lot in the grand scheme of things, but when you're also contending with injuries, it says a lot.

Arguments to suit whenever eh?

You were singing going down with a fiver in the back and now you suggest we have the same spending power as you who you claim to be financially sound?

Add to that the wages for squad size and the cost of players on the bench or not involved too please.

im not arguing the fact we have a bigger squad and im not arguing the fact our total wage bill will be higher, dicko hasnt even played for us and i know for a fact he is on 3k per week,

but we have injuries, barazite, leacock, addison and gay meverley are out for the season,

the likes of mears, barnes, dicko, clod davies, kaz and zadkovic wont play for the club again and will be off at the end of the season, along with arguably todd, villa and sterjovski, who will feature this season but will be off at the end of the season,

this will bring our wage bill down, most players at the club are on a championship wage, i agree that jewell was heavily backed and davies was backed with money at derby, but most of the money spent has been recuped from player sales, the money we have got for earnie, miller and the other 7 or so players that left in pre season, so we have been lucky enough to then have money to re-invest because this seasons parachute payment was used to buy players we had bought last season and hadnt paid for such as earnshaw and davies.

personally i dont think davies is up to the job as i have explained before, i think he talks bollocks and gives it the big i am but in fairness what the point in having him there if your chairman wont back him. give him a bit of cash and he would have kept you up, now its a case of seeing who he can loan for you lot, although i do think mcsheff is a very good loan signing is he can do it straight away after his injury. All davies has to learn is that if he doesnt have a lot of money to spend it wisely after all he bought claude davies for 3 million pounds.

And age is not the overlying factor in experience either. Go down your list, superram, and write down which players have played in the Premiership and which haven't. There's a clear difference.

Take your Marthur-esque spin elsewhere, idiotic sheepshagger.

I know for sure that Commons is on 16K before bonuses. Don't know about the signing on fee, you're probably right it will have been fairly substantial.

To be fair to you, you haven't come on here like a twat and you have kept a level of decorum that unfortunately is not with the 'few' on here. We all have our idiots, t'is best to ignore it and let the banter continue with decent folk...
