I hope this comes true, purely because I was ridiculed in the pub for even suggesting it the other night!

Would you say the same about David James?

James has one season or two at best left in him.

He also said that none of the Premiership offers were going to give him regular first team football ie. they were signing him as back up.

I reckon Owen - IF FIT - would be first choice striker for 75% of Premier League clubs.

The difference between David James and Michael Owen is that James, at 40, is at the end of his career.

Owen should still be in the prime of his (what is he now, 29? 30?)

Michael Owen, if fit, would be fantastic in the Championship; but I agree with Robbie, I just can't see him dropping down to this level - there surely would be lower-Premier League clubs fighting to take him on loan, if - as it seems - Ferguson has given up on him?

He is 31, 32 in December. I agree that I cant see it but what I am saying is strange things do happen some times! Plus he loves Southwell and Nottingham racees! lol

He is 30, 31 in December. He is the same school year as me as he shared a room at Lillyshall with a friend of mine.

Owen makes Tyson look fit.

Owen would be a waste of resources as he would be spending most of his time in the physio's office.

He'd score for fun in this league.

His record was tainted at Newcastle as they played without a midfield.

At Real Madrid I think he had the highest goals per minute on the pitch ratio in the world or something stupid like that. He averaged a goal for every 15 minutes he played or something equally outrageous.

At Newcastle, he had hardly any chances, but his conversion rate from his chances was sublime. THey barely gave him the ball in an attacking sphere, but when he had a shot it generally went in.

At Man Utd he's again proved himself to be a natural goalscorer.

We need a striker who will put the ball away if he's given the chance. Even Earnie misses quite a few chances.

If we could get Owen on loan, and Man Utd paying the majority of his wages we'd be laughing. We'd win the league. HE wouldn't need to play every game, so fitness wouldn't be that much of a concern. A rotation through Earnie, Dex, Tys and Owen with Dele on the bench would see us able to play against any defence in the league.

Is owen on a pay as you play deal at Manchester? How could we afford to attract him on those terms and why would another team pay part of his pay as you play wages when he turns out for another team?

As crazy as it sounds, the 25-man squads will make players with lengthy injury records, like Owen something of a risk for Premiership managers...

Congo's right - you only have to look at Woodgate at Tottenham. Top player (when fit!) but unlikely to be in the 25 due to his appalling injury record.

How has he proved himself to be a natural goalscorer at Man Utd? Three goals in 19 appearances is hardly groundbreaking.

As for the Newcastle point it simply isn't true. I used to watch them a lot with a Geordie mate at uni. and saw Owen in many games squander several gilt-edged opportunities which ultimately contributed to them going down by him not scoring enough.

Anyone who thinks Owen is not a class act is out of their minds. He is still the best English finisher and his strike rate is incredibly prolific. As for 3 goals in 19 appearances for Man U, that is utter bobbins. I saw him score a Champions League hat-trick last year and we all remember his goals against Man City and in the League Cup final. That is 5 without even checking. Equally many of his appearances were for short periods as a sub or he didn't play the full 90, so you can't lean on that stat too heavily.

I have just checked on wikipedia - 9 goals in 31 appearances last season. That is still pretty much 1 in 3 without playing much in a lot of those appearances. Meanwhile Dexter Blackstock managed the same ratio playing pretty much whole games in all of his appearances a division below and not in the Champions League.

So I ask you this question. What kind of thick idiot wouldn't want Owen in the Garibaldi next year?

He is a few weeks younger than me, turning 31 in December (I am guessing Zero7's mate is Richard Cooper) and in my opinion should not be even considering playing in this division for a single minute. Nevertheless I will jump for joy if this turns out to be real.

To be honest I don't understand the levels of support even Blackstock gets. He's far from class and spent most of the second half of last season looking at his feet feeling sorry for himself. I think it is representative of our weakness up top that Blackstock gets praise from Forest fans for what he achieved last season.

We have one class act up front and that is Earnie. I also believe Garner could become a great player for us too if he gets the chance. The rest I would happily see replaced.

I with you on that. I think Blackstock is some-way over-rated by our supporters but he is a good outlay for Earnie and they are by far our best partnership at the moment.

Without a doubt mate. I just wish they would use that partnership away from home as well as at the City Ground. Blackstock is nowhere near good enough to be a lone striker based on last season's performances. It is no wonder our goals scored tally was so low.

Blackstock's plenty good enough as a lone striker. He's a very good all-round forward. Quick and mobile enough to run the channels, whiilst being big and strong enough to occupy centre backs and win headers. I think he needs to be a bit more selfish at times and get in scoring positions a bit more often but you wont find a striker that works as hard as Dex and gets around 15 goals a season at this level.

What we need to do is find a viable alternative, so he can be rotated more often. He was knackered by the end of last season.

Strongly disagree, he did brilliantly against newcastle up front by himself! He's not the best target man in the league I'll give you that but he's more than capable to play up front by himself.

That said I wish we would stop doing this!

Your points epitomise my argument and shows the level of mediocrity Forest fans are accepting from player performances.

Dexter has never scored 15 goals in a season and scores less than a goal in every three games playing virtually all the time. His contribution in the second half of last season was poor, against Newcastle as a lone striker he failed miserably with any opportunity that came his way and our away goalscoring record across the season was appalling for a team putting in a promotion push, which in itself is a reflection on his ability from a non goalscoring perspective to contribute to our attacking performances as a team.

As for being knackered... I saw a bunch of guys win the World Cup after much more gruelling seasons in the top flight of their domestic leagues and whilst having played additional games at the elite end of international club football. Blackstock meanwhile played for Forest in the Championship and whilst we had a small number of cup games you can not offer him that excuse. The fact that you do shows a weakness in him as well as your personal expectations of our players.

This is not a bad thing, but I don't subscribe to blind faith where my support for Forest is concerned and Dexter Blackstock is not good enough to deserve the praise he receives. I hope this changes, but until it does I will maintain my position.

It's not blind faith, I just think he's a good player and served us well last year. I don't believe also that I 'accept a level of mediocrity' either. Dexter offers what I want from that type of striker and I think a 1 in 3 ratio is good for a player that offers us the work rate and options that Dexter does. I can't think of many more prolific 'target men' over the last year or two.

I also don't see how missing a couple of chances at SJP reflects his "ability from a non goalscoring perspective to contribute to our attacking performances as a team". Surely missing chances reflects his ability from a goalscoring perspective only? Which I would agree on, I think he could become more goal-centric and get in selfish psoitions more often. His ability from a "non goalscoring perspective" is pretty good IMO and he had a good game at SJP from that POV up against big a pair of very good CB's, holding the ball, winning headers and allowing us to put together some pretty positive counter attacking play.

A bit harsh also to pin the lack of away goals solely on him as well. The man you deem a 'class act' hardly shone away from home last season, either. Despite almost exclusively being played as one of a pair. Our whole approach away from home seem to become somewhat confused at times which didn't help at all.

The fitness thing wasn't really me making an excuse either. I just tought he looked tired, for whatever reason, maybe he was carrying an injury? I think if a viable alternative was brought in then it'd lead to more options and hopefully a better Blackstock.

How the feck can you bad mouth Blackstock, he was awesome throughout last season? He was absoloutly spent at the end of last season, Billy had said so himself, he worked his arse off all season creating chances and holding up play all season. Anybody who saw the change in the game when he came on at Barnsley away will know what i'm on about.

Regarding the thread title, has anyone actually questioned what an interbational is? lol
