Every half century + 9, Forest win the cup!

Is it just me or do all Forest fans get the feeling that something is stirring down the City Ground?

1959 saw one of Forest's most notable achievements - Winning the FA Cup.

Question: Who was the referee that day, 50 years ago?

Anyway, here we are, half a century on. A series of events, factors are bringing the cup back home.

We have beaten the richest club in the world, we have taken the most unfashionable club in the world to a replay, before they are put to the sword in the famous City Ground and now the best club in the world are coming to Nottingham.

Who could predict that chain of fixtures. Man City, Derby & Man Utd. Something is happening that is beyond our control.

I know the predictable line of "The leagues more important" etc etc will be rolled out

But I don't care.. :D

After 3 years of God awful football its great being in the limelight again pitting ourselves against the best and our fiercest rivals.

Embrace it, enjoy it and capture the moment. There were times in the dark third flight I could not even tell you who we were playing next Saturday, such was the lack of enthusiasm surrounding the club.

As a club, we are on the up. Sheffield Wed is a big game but we now go into these fixtures fearing nobody.

The passion and belief is back. Nottingham Forest has soul again.

We didn't even need a manager to attend last Friday to get a result!!

Keep the passion and belief alive and the rest will take care of itself!

U Reds!! :tophat:

I have just spent ten minutes researching this and cannot find who the referee was in 1959. I did have a programme but gave it away to my brother.

im still not convinced

It's Baggio

John Robertson
The ref in '59 was a bloke called Mr Clough.

I have my suspicions here.
Things are starting to look up for us now and I think ND is behind it all.
He wants the club to look more attractive to the filthy rich Arabs.
5th round of the cup.
Getting results.
Climbing the table.
A fairly good young squad.
A decent manager and
foundations for a new stadium.

Nothing bad is happening. I smell a rat.

Most of all Kilburn seems happy and Spring Heeled Jack doesnt be on the forum to complain anymore.

1898 - how's that work? :)

That's all to do with the alinement of the planets and the Chinease New Year. In 1898 - 99 we move to the City Ground though!

The ref in the final in 1898 was a chap called Lewis? The game was played at Crystal Palace which when reversing the initials gives you the format by which we communicate today.

I could go on Al, but I think you just have to accept its our year for the cup mate. :D

As I said early on the in FA Cup 5th round draw thread I said I didn't want a repeat of the Liverpool draw last year when some on here seemed to have already booked there tickets to the Liverpool game before we had even played Luton and well it was quite embarrassing. Kilburn is way ahead of all of these people and has his tickets already booked for the final. :D

I fear this thread will come back to bite you on the ass.

No but there is a pattern to 1898, 1959, 2009!

I just haven't figured out what it is yet...

You've got your wires crossed, it's the year that ends in 9.

1959,1979 and 1989.

Now that is a pattern.

Ah BUT that is the beauty of this cunning pattern! (it's Cantor's Set Theorem!)

"The mathematician Georg Cantor proved that the set of real numbers is "more numerous" than the set of natural numbers; this showed, for the first time, that there exist infinite sets of different sizes. He was also the first to appreciate the importance of one-to-one correspondences in set theory. He used this concept to define finite and infinite sets, subdividing the latter into denumerable (or countably infinite) sets and uncountable sets (nondenumerable infinite sets).

Cantor introduced fundamental constructions in set theory, such as the power set of a set A, which is the set of all possible subsets of A. He later proved that the size of the power set of A is strictly larger than the size of A, even when A is an infinite set; this result soon became known as Cantor's theorem. Cantor developed an entire theory and arithmetic of infinite sets, called cardinals and ordinals, which extended the arithmetic of the natural numbers." wiki

Send this to The Mancs and ask them for their thoughts! ;D

You are the resident Nostradamus.

This theory has far more credibility than those ones put up by Kimbokel about George Bush flying planes into buildings that don't have engines, but have one engine, that is rumoured not to be from Rolls Royce.

HOLD ON, HOLD ON, HOLD ON A MINUTE............
We're only three points above the relegation zone, our star player is out long term, a squad that was already weak and needed strengthening is even weaker! A Manager that seems reluctant to add to the squad is in charge and we're not past the fourth round. Perspective please!!!
We still are in very, very, very real danger of going down. Then its all doom and gloom again eh! We are in trouble. I know its hard to accept but you all know it in the back of your minds. When Laws and co come down tomorrow and bring us all back down to earth you will see!!!
I welcome your personal insults.....

Twunt.

Only kidding!

Good perspective, if a little negative, but to be honest, I think everyone knows you're a glass half empty kind of guy. Cautious, is probably a better word, and who can blame you. 10 years of shit has made many of us wary of dreaming a little too much.

Whilst factually you are correct in what you are saying, things have definitely changed at the City Ground since boxing day.

We're undefeated in 2009, our actual star player isn't injured, he's just scored his 5th goal in as many games, our goalkeeper has answered many of his critics, producing a string of fine saves to enable us to play with a little optimism, our shaky defence has become more stable, Tyson is in the form of his life, and January isn't over yet.

Whilst our new manager, who has yet to lose a game as a Forest manager, may seem reluctant in bringing someone in, that has to be a good thing. He hasn't raided Derby as many expected, he hasn't brought in hoofers, and he has said he wants to bring in quality and experience. Two vital things.

As much as people shouldn't get carried away, I think I'm fair in saying that people should also not be too negative.

We've gone toe to toe with the richest club in the land and clubs that are fighting to get their name above ours in the league come May. We've come out on top time and time again. Man City, Norwich, Charlton, Plymouth. All good clubs. 2 of whom had already beaten us this season, and one that has averaged a 3 goal cushion in every game they've won this season.

Not too shabby, and certainly something to give us a little hope, a little glimmer that something better might come along and the right to go into an upcoming game without a caveat of not getting beaten too badly would be a good result.

Forest have proved they are no longer afraid of anyone. Clubs have to afraid of us, and when they come to the City Ground, it is the responsibility of the fans to help the team in anyway we can. Getting behind them, making some noise and making it an intimidating place for visiting teams will help.
