Elliott Ward?

Benchwarmer

Has expressed his desire to leave due to limited 1st team opportunities so far this season.. only 24 y/o. Worth a punt?

Coventry City defender Elliott Ward believes it is 'set in stone' that he will be leaving the Ricoh Arena within the next 12 months.

Ward has played 120 games for the Sky Blues since joining from West Ham three years ago, but he has made just two substitute appearances this season.

He remains determined to force his way back in to Chris Coleman's starting line-up and feels playing regularly would aid his prospects of moving in January.

However, the 23-year-old feels he may have to wait until the end of the season before leaving the Ricoh Arena if he stays on the fringes of Coleman's plans.

"If I play a few, which I want to and need to, then January could be an option, but if I am not playing then people soon forget you and it will be a case of leaving at the end of the season," Ward told the Coventry Evening Telegraph.

"That's what I expect anyway, to see out the rest of the year and then leave.

"But until then I want to be playing and my aim is to push back into the team.

"I obviously want to be playing and to do well for Coventry rather than worrying about being in the shop window.

"Things do change in football, so who knows what will happen, but I believe it is set in stone at the moment.

"But if we did go and have a good season and made the play-offs or got promoted and I was a part of that, who knows?

"If they still wanted me here then I would definitely look at that, but until then, I think I know my future."

Pah, did he not learn anything from the Groltster?

I'm of the opinion that anyone who's mentioned now is better than what we've got.

He would be worth a punt, he's certainly better than Wilson and Chambers (and maybe even Morgan).

I've seen him play quite a few times and can say he is a player of some quality and would certainly challenge for a regular spot in the heart of our defence.

Like many decent centre halves that play in the Championship, the reason he hasn't made the step up is because his concentration can sometimes be suspect. I also believe that he's had a disagreement with Coleman, but not necessarily a hissy fit - probably just that he thought he was much better than Ben Turner last season, who he lost his place to.

Also worth noting that he's an old friend of the club after scoring a 94th minute equaliser against Barnsley, when it looked like it could have mattered to us, last season.

Yep, great strategy. ::)

Never really rated him and I don't think signing Coventry's benchwarmers is the way forward. As it stands, we've got 3 decent CB's, we should be going out and getting a good one, not someone who's probably not as good as what we've got.

I'm not sure that's right what you've said above regarding the reason (that he hasn’t made the step up)!!!

It does say in the write up above that he came from West Ham and has played 120 games in 3 years which works out at 40 games per season in my reckoning and I wouldn't consider going to Coventry a ‘Step Up’

“Ward has played 120 games for the Sky Blues since joining from West Ham three years ago, but he has made just two substitute appearances this season”.

Yeah, JB's right.

Maybe I could have been clearer. I meant being at a Premier League club, or back at one, depending on which way you look at it.

"Ahora entiendo a mi amigo"

Either way, I wouldn't be against him or anyone coming in at this stage even if it is for 3 months providing they're better than what we have.

Totally disagree. That kind of desperation is what we need to avoid.

Ward failed to make an impact at West Ham, he has been a regular at Coventry until now but that is not necessarily a recommendation. He is also regarded as not properly fit after his recent injury.

The news of any CB loan would make the fans happier, so it can only be a good thing.

i think would be a useful addition, we're so desperately short in the defensive area, wouldnt be a bad one in my book
