Everytime we've received possession in midfield it's been with our back to goal, nobody is on the half turn and it ends up going straight back to the back 4. Probably partly due the midfield not trusting the defence if possession is turned over so they've got the safety catch on
I was seeing the same and thought the conditions wouldn't have helped and maybe might have affected confidence to play on the spin, with players opting to get it under control first.

He doesn’t have licence to maraud upfield with Tuchel so he’s harder to spot. His energy earned that second goal and I thought he was busy and worked hard. Too often see him step out and over-commit to a challenge, to find the oppo are then in behind. When he does that for us it’s rarely a big deal and we’ll have cover; when he does it for England it looks instantly more damaging.

He appears to have been instructed to play slightly further forward than the position he seems to naturally fill with us and previously pre tournament with England. O'Reaily also often fills spaces he would normally drift into on the left hand side.
Apart from when defending last night, the lines between def, mid & att haven't looked right to me all tournament and I'm sure that's impacting his performance.

I do think that is just because people have been searching around for who can be your blame for some abject performances and they have decided he ‘does nothing’ and just passes sideways. There is also the Man Utd agenda (fans and some pundits) who want their boy Mainoo in. But if you wanted a more offensive midfielder in there you’d just take the shackles off Anderson a bit. Then you are getting the best of both worlds. Can you imagine Mainoo in there last night? Or in other games when Anderson has been left to do all the donkey work? How overrun would we be?

As an Irish Red i think i can offer a little bit of neutrality regarding his England performances in the World Cup.
I think he has been a disappointment so far. He is too quick to jump off the ball which leads to him vacating a lot of space in front of Englands backline. Rice hasn't had a great tournament either and it seems like instead of having a great relationship like they looked to have before the tournament, they're now stepping on each others toes - Rice isn't advanced enough to give Elliot the space to do his thing on the ball nor be the option to receive a pass when Elliot does have it, Rice also doesn't take a turn to sit in and allow Elliot to get forward higher up the pitch.
The upside to Elliot being Elliot is the 2nd goal last night. I'm surprised at how little that interception has gotten across the media, completely nailed Mexico directly after they went down 1-0. His 2nd half performance against DR Congo was a lot more like the Anderson we know and i think this is the one the Premier League will see in Citys system under Maresca next season.
I'll be honest i'm delighted we've got the fee we have because had we been "relying" on his performances in the World Cup to dictate his transfer fee like times gone by, we'd be lucky to get 100mil.

He was actually alongside Bellingham when he scored as well, although I think he may have run slightly offside by the time Kane crossed the ball. Certainly would have been a tight one if it had run to him.

I meant to say there are certain England players who the pundits seem to really go overboard with things they do. Elliott isn’t there at the moment so they barely mention big contributions but will not pick. This isn't how football transfers work.
Man City will have been watching him for over six months. Compiling huge data sets on him and analysing every single game he's featured in for us in that time frame. Assessing suitability for a partnership with Rodri or a.n.other. Ensuring he's the right personality to fit in with the wider team etc.
A handful of games at the World Cup won't have any impact on either his potential transfer value or suitors. Anderson was always going to go to Man City at an enormous fee because we knew they were set on him.
