Bloody well hope so, most obvious venue for 'Nottingham' Forest, closer to the city than the Sadpies, and with bus, rail and tramlinks so close by logistically it makes much more sense.

NOTTINGHAM'S 2018 World Cup stadium could now be built at a new site in the city.

The Post understands plans have been drawn up to build the stadium, which would also be used by Nottingham Forest, in the Eastside regeneration zone off London Road, close to the Eastcroft incinerator and BBC buildings.

Previously, the bid team had rejected this location in favour of a site east of Gamston.

However, following determined opposition from Notts County Council, it is believed an alternative plan is being developed.

Simon Robinson, chairman of action group Rushcliffe Green Fields, said he had been told by a number of "high-ranking" councillors and officers about the Eastside plans.

"I believe those plans have been quite widely circulated now within the city council and the county council as well," he said.

It has not been confirmed how the Eastside stadium would be financed.

Councillor Neil Clarke, leader of Rushcliffe Borough Council, which is the planning authority for the area of the Gamston site, said: "The fact that they do appear to be seriously considering other sites helps us ensure that we can continue to protect the green belt."

A Nottingham World Cup bid spokesman said: "The development of a new stadium is essential for Nottingham to have any chance of becoming a host city in 2018 and Gamston remains the site presented in the bid.

"As with any project of this scale and importance, there will be many challenges to consider.

"Hosting the World Cup would be a massive boost for Nottingham, the county and the region, creating jobs and business, in addition to all the excitement and enthusiasm that being part of the world's biggest sporting event would bring."

I hope now, when kay cutts comes back wanting to "back the bid", so that they can make some money out of it, they tell her to f*** right off and focus on sacking people instead.

To be honest, shes more likely to come out in opposition of it and demand forest stay in bridgford, so the county doesnt lose any money.
 
I could almost back that now. Building on green belt was half, maybe more, of my opposition to it. Its totally unacceptable to wreck countryside.

With that out of the way, there is just the issue of leaving the City Ground. The fact that this site is closer to town makes for an intersting pull in that direction, there'd be plenty of real pubs and food places around still.

I dunno, for now, I think I'd still say **** the World Cup, and wait for promotion so we can use some of the Prem money to redevelop The City Ground in small bits. But this sounds a lot better anyway.
 
Once again, Clarke talks about 'preserving the green belt' whilst forcing through schemes which undermine it.
 
Wouldn't the transport links be a nightmare at East Side, though?

At least we could still call the ground the City Ground, although the Canal End doesn't sound as good as the Trent End.

I would be much more in favour of this move than Gamston.

Not really. Its right in the center of town, and the tram stop is right by it, as is the train station and theres plenty of buses.

With loads of car parks in town and around the place, its pretty bang on for transport links.
 
I still want to stay!
However if, as it sounds like it is, the move is definitely happening i'd prefer the East Side to Gamston/Clifton/other out of town franchised crap area.
As for the transport links, i'm sure new roads/transport links would be incorporated, aswell as the wider area made more transport friendly.
I still want to stay at the CG though!
 
Anybody care to provide a location plan for us out of towners?
 
I could easily be swayed by a move to Eastside. Transport links would be fine, it's a city centre - it's a hub of transport links, still close to the station and endless bus routes. It would be better than where we are now, aside from less street parking available.

"The Sneinton End" is OK or bring back the infamous "Narrow Marsh" name and have a "Narrow Marsh End" to put the fear of God into the Millwall fans. :)

Easiest way to probably describe is walk down London Road towards the city (away from Trent Bridge), on the right handside of London Road before the island is BBC East Midlands, Eastside is behind there
 
This would be huge

The stadium itself will no doubt be utilised for rock concerts galore
the location is prefect really, you don't need transport links as such, they already exist

Notts County and Nottingham Forest will be playing in the City of Nottingham
 
from a selfish point of view it would be harder to get to for me, but whatever, it'd be good for the club. what i don't understand is why the minister for culture media and sport said about 2018 that "all stadiums are pre-existing or were going to be built anyway". this isn't true, is it?

still, this is actually exciting. a stadium in that location is marquee.
 
This is the location many of us have been talking about for sometime now. If we had to move to a new ground i would want it to be here rather than some development miles out of town. I am of course quite happy where we are though!
