He gets 14 and take it from there for me. If we can get his body right he's a huge asset. If not...
Tricky isn't it?

Would you buy that lovely Rolls Royce you've leased for the last few months but has so far broken down every third or fourth drive?

At the end of the day, you are correct. It will be a thoroughly assessed medical decision by next window. Fingers crossed he can be managed.

Although he came in relatively late, Luiz was this summer's arrival who I never thought we'd have a chance of signing.

He's a superb player, but I think what we're seeing now could be the reason why supposedly bigger clubs passed on the opportunity and why Nuno reportedly objected to the signing.

If we can get him fit and performing, he'll do very well for us, so I have my fingers crossed for him.

If he spends half his time on the treatment table, legitimate questions will be asked of the recruitment and medical teams.

I still don't get why Nuno would object to the signing tbh.

We were signing to thicken the squad with quality to cope with Europe. Luiz still does that, he just can't play every game in tight schedules.

But he was/is still fine for relieving more mainstays in the side with a quality contribution in it's place. Even if the club only gets 10-20 games a season out of him, that amount from a player of his quality is a plus in my book.

I don't think Nuno would have wanted a player who would only be right for 20 games a season to be honest @Alf-engelos Mindminackers
If we assume Nuno did want another CM for the increase in games, he'll more likely have wanted one he knew would generally be fit, given his known preference for smaller squads.

There are elements of assumption and hindsight with this as I'd think I'd probably have been OK with taking a gamble on Luiz at the time myself, but I'd have a few quid that Nuno was probably thinking more along the lines reuniting again with an experienced, battle-hardened Mendes client like Ruben Neves, which might have been possible with only a year left on his Saudi contract.

His fitness/injury issues are very frustrating, because on more than one occasion (including last Saturday) he’s looked like the best player on the pitch before he has to hobble off.
Where’s little Jimmy Gordon with the cortisone needles when you need him?

20 million for 20 games a season isn’t that bad. It’s more than we’ve got out of Taiwo for a similar price.

His wages will be high though.

Strange as before Juventus he only missed a handful of games for Villa.

I’d have thought we’d have used him more as a second half sub, come on at 55/60 and not trigger an appearance, eases him back into it aswell

Manage his minutes properly and he is a real asset. Personally, I would only play him in the Europa games whilst we have 2 games a week. The lower intensity should help.
Then use him for an hour when we have less frequent games.
