Was really impressed with the energy levels.

He and Anderson are those rare types who know what other players are going to do before they know themselves. You don't need exceptional pace when you can see into the future. Both players have that whiff of Zidane about them for me.

It wasn't a glamorous game. But there are so many positives from an individual and especially a team perspective.

I agree Eddie. The strength and skill he showed when he went past three Porto players in the 2nd-half was sublime. I'm not sure if he's up to three games in a week at the moment, and so I wouldn't be surprised if he starts on the bench on Sunday?
I was surprised he stayed on as long as he did. I fully expected Yates or Sangare to come on as soon as the 2nd was scored.

In fact from around 65 minutes I thought a few looked knackered and was surprised we never made changes. I suppose the game was too close at that point to risk altering it though.

Wrap him up in cotton wool and keep him nice and warm.

He was brilliant, him and Ando ran the game.

Me too. Maybe as he’s not had much pre season and has had 45 mins here and there they wanted to get a good 80/85 in him to help get him up to speed. Be interesting to see what he does with him on Sunday.

I can see why we wanted him, even with the miserable injury record in Italy.

The medical team are playing a blinder at the moment getting and keeping him fit. I suppose his season will have to be carefully managed, but it will be worth it.

Quality player. Not quite up to speed yet. Probably have to manage his game time. Knows the dark arts well too.

Rolls Royce of a midfielder, not a typical "Dyche" midfielder but that didn't seem to be a problem last night. Think he might start from the bench on Sunday though.

If it means taking him in & out the team to preserve his fitness it will be worth it

We have capable deputies, his minutes should be managed so we can get a fully fit & confident Luiz after a dodgy last season injury wise.

We haven't even mentioned his set piece taking yet which is arguably the best part of his game.

He's an excellent player, for me he was MOM yesterday.

He's such a composed player on the ball and he's got that aggression you want from a midfielder either when the ball is in play or even not as evidenced by getting stuck into their faces when needed.

I think we can put his failed spell at Juventus down to Alicia Lehmanns influence, oddly enough he still seemed to come out a winner that year in Turin as well.

I can't believe we got him to be honest. He has always been a bloody good player.

Not only was he a top 6 PL level player just over a year ago, but he was one of Villa's best players too. Rumoured that City were looking at him in January.

Keep him fit, get him signed up. Not many better midfield pairings that him and Anderson. Absolute mustard the pair of them.

He was excellent last night and it was great to give him a standing ovation, which hopefully confirmed in his mind that he made a good decision joining us. He was superb all-round and I really liked seeing him not shying away from confrontation with Porto players.

That's the player I remember from his time at Villa and provided he can get up to full fitness, we've absolutely done Juventus on the deal. I understood we're paying Juventus around a £2.6m loan fee for this season, plus a potential permanent fee totalling around £27m if all add-ons are eventually paid. I recall reading the trigger was 15 appearances, with an appearance meaning at least 45 minutes.

If that's PL appearances, he has made 2, if it's total, he's at 5. There's loads of time left this season, so I doubt SD will even consider it in game-to-game selection and substitution decisions. Leaving players who may be tired on for an additional 10 minutes may even prove beneficial in the long run, as it's clear that high-end fitness levels can only really be achieved through playing minutes.

A fully fit Douglas Luiz regularly clocking up over minutes will be part of a successful team no doubt. Barring injury, it's likely that he'll be gracing the WFCG for the next few years and that's a huge positive in my book 👏🔴
