Doughty to deal with Transfer Panel

I appreciate this is probably yet more sensationalism from Vital, but if this is true then it would be interesting to see who is removed. My money is on Marthur...

Nottingham Forest Chairman Nigel Doughty is said to be as upset as the ordinary fans in the stands, over the clubs' lack of signings during the January transfer window.

Doughty is believed to have sanctioned bids totalling more than £6m for the January window, but due to the workings of the acquisitions panel, the club spent zero.

The acquisitions panel consists of Billy Davies, Nigel Doughty, director of football David Pleat, chief scout, Keith Burt, chief executive Mark Arthur and finance director John Pelling. Although Doughty is a member of the panel, his role is only to agree to stump up the cash. The others are there to ensure a player is suitable for the club and that a fair price is paid.

Doughty as well as Davies, believes the process has cost the club to strengthen during this transfer window. Many fans would argue that it's cost us in the last three. Davies apparently listed as many as nine players for the panel to target, with the aim of securing three. That list allowed for certain targets not being attained and allowed for secondary targets to be approached. The end result, was that no one was brought in to add to a squad that is now effectively weaker than it was at the beginning of January.

Despite Doughty's own misgivings about the panel, he's not going to do away with it altogether. He's expected to trim it down in terms of numbers, in an effort to speed the process up. Hopefully he will take a few of the money men out of the equation and make it a little more football biased. This is not a pre planned move by the Chairman, more a reaction to the panels failings last month.

It's probably bollocks but I'll play along...

How would getting rid of the chief executive speed things along? Even at clubs that don't have such a panel, the chief executive will still be the one that does the negotiating.

"Although Doughty is a member of the panel, his role is only to agree to stump up the cash. The others are there to ensure a player is suitable for the club and that a fair price is paid."

So how's it Arthur's fault? If Doughty agreed to release £2m for Pratley, then what happens if Swansea want £3m? How will 'taking a few of the money men out' help this?

I really can't understand why the panel gets so much stick. All the panel (which includes the manager) does is sit down and discuss targets, when they've made their list it's down to the negotiating, which has nothing to do with the panel.

If there was no panel and Billy's targets were Pratley, Shorey and Moses, we still wouldn't have got them.

Not even worth a thread.

The people who write that site know no more than the average Joe is the street as has been proven time and time again

If anything that just proves what a good idea a transfer panel is. all the relevant people are on it contributing to successful correctly priced players.

You've got to wonder if just getting rid of the money men is a good idea anyway, I mean, there are f***ing evil rip off merchants aplenty in the world of football. We need to be careful. Very f***ing careful, if we're to go up, and stay up. Clubs who splash over the odds willy nilly on crap go down the pan, we've been there and done it. If Moses and that were a rip off, f*** them, they're not worth "Doing a League 1" for, surely?

I'm suprised the guys at vital don't realise that, maybe, writing shit about the club, like this, is the reason their "reliable" insider information, 99.9% of the time, turns out to be bollocks fed to them to make them look stupid.

what concerns me is the publication of rumours alerts other clubs to potential deals and therefore could jeaopardise said deals...

They should be kept within the forums at most.

The only target I feel bad about is Shorey - he was good but at £30,000 per week? He wanted Prem football - so that's Mark Arthur's fault.
Moses - not really for this season anyway - too young and who would he displace? He wanted Prem football - so THAT's Mark Arthur's fault too.
Pratley? Not worth any more than £2 million. Who would he have replaced? Yes you've guessed it - Mark Arthur's fault!
The transfer panel WORKS. January is a bad time to do business - prices are hiked up and people buy for the sake of it. We've got a fine squad - easily capable of promotion - especially after the loan period starts (when I truly expect us to land a left back).
My second point - I was given a transfer rumour on good authority supposedly from the inside (on the academy side). It turned out to be a crock. Players names are bandied about our club and some self-important t*rd who works there (or at the ticket office) passes it on to us lot. My (late) new year resolution is not to pass anything on. At one time, there were few rumours - Forest did the signing and released it to the press - simple. The players I'd heard about were ........
Raddy
Shorey
Moses
And the big name (you've guessed it) Whatshisname Hesselink from Hull.
All these players had details, prices etc attached to them. No wonder Billy does all his new player negotiations away from the City Ground. He doesn't trust some of his staff.

One day people on here and on other Forums will wake up to the fact that they are not football managers and are definitely not the Chairman of a football club but are actually football club supporters.

If you were a butcher and Billy Davies or Nigel Doughty was to walk into your shop (and you didn't know them from Adam) and they started to tell you how to carve up a joint of beef I think I know what you'd be telling them.

Billy Davies is a professional football manager and if he thinks that this club would benefit from adding players to his squad be it in January or whenever then I would accept he knows a little more about his job than I do.

If Nigel Doughty puts his trust in the manager to find the right type of player/s that will make a difference to our team and then supports him with the cash to buy them, then we should be grateful (as supporters) for the effort they are putting in.

The people that come on here spouting who they would buy - who they wouldn't buy - who's shit etc. etc. etc. really know phuck all about the professional side of the sport - People have opinions, which is fair enough but do they really know what actually goes on behind the scenes - I think not.

Who blasted Billy Davies when he was first appointed? - who brandished Adebola as sh!t when we were first linked withe guy? - and the list gets longer.

We have got to the position we are in today because of Billy Davies - within 13 months he has taken us out of a relegation battle up to second place in the Championship and if he has not proved himself by now, then let's have Clueless back.

Support the manager - support our Chairman and support the club to make the right decisions but let's stop throwing the crap about and pretending we are all experts on what the club should be doing, then life will be sweeter for us all.

It works wonderfully well in the summer.

In January perhaps it should be changed to the 'Non transfer pane' to avoid prosecution under the trades descriptions act.
