The fact that Doughty feels the need to comment is rather worrying.

As I have said in another thread this needs to be sorted NOW

I think it was more the fact that Doughty was asked if Billy would be manager, he didnt put himself out to state that he would be. Doesn't Doughty or MArther get interviewed at the end of every season?

Doughty does do an interview at the end of every season.

Its a very open an honets interview. I like the way he mentions about not believing everything that is in print (Same as what BD says)

I'm abit concerned about this statement:

"We can progress next season. Two or three players would be the maximum number of additions, I would imagine."

If theres one very clear thing, its that we lack depth.

Its also very reminiscent of what he and arthur said after the sheff u semi final :(

2 or 3 players - £8M to £10M.

When you consider what we paid for Raddy & Anderson ... makes you wonder what £2M - £3M a player would get you.

I think the key comment he made was 'long term' Thats honest and not what some want to hear

Yeah, completely agree. Im definitely one of them, but more as a result of that "long term" line has been toted by the club since the end of platts reign, and start of paul harts. Whats that 7/8 years?

I do think its the right policy, and one im supportive of.

But at the same time, its frustrating how long its taking and relatively we are in exactly the same position pitch wise as we were 7 years ago. A young exciting team, thats just been knocked out of the championship play off semi final.

When are we going to get the pay off from this strategy?

It sounds stupid, but I both support and hate this policy.

It is frustrating, however given that we are not a cash rich club means this is what we are stuck with. Not getting promoted this season may well help rather than hinder our progress, there are a catalogue of clubs who have paid highly for pushing the boundaries of their capabilities and paid a high price.

the key thing this time compared to 7 years ago is we dont repeat the mistakes, we have to go and strengthen this side, another year in this league could be the making of this squad. they will be more than ready to make the step up to premiership.

wasnt 8 - 10 million the money that has been saved to be used over the next 4 years?

yes from the way I read it we have a transfer Kittie of around 2.5 million a year over the next 4 years.

I thought it meant extra? As in it adds onto what was already available.

As it would practically rule us out of getting pratley, as swansea wanted £4 million for him- and it would be hard to see them selling for anything less than £2 million. Which leaves very little money to buy any other players that would improve our squad- as opposed to the mediocre ones doughty doesnt want us to sign.

*edit* unless we pay in installments I guess

Billy has a 3 year contract, so he has 2 years left.

Why does anyone think he is leaving ?

He said last night..... "I have 2 years left of a 3 year contract"........ when he was asked the question.

the way the mail/sun have worded it is it we have 8-10 million quid to spend over the next 4 years, from that I am not saying we wont just spunk the lot this year, leaving us having to sell to fund future players, wasnt the original budget to get us back to the prem around 20 million? with around 6-7 million of that gone already this year around 4-5 million the year previous the above figure seems about right

We have our targets for the summer and we hope to move forward from here.
It is easy to be critical of us not investing, but the three targets we had would have improved the squad.
It would have been easy for us to go and buy four or five players of mediocre quality.
If we had given them four-year contracts, that would have been £8m to £10m out of our cashflow for four years.
It was difficult for us to identify players who would have improved the squad. Those we did identify, for various reasons, did not come. But we have that £8m to £10m now, which we can spend over the next four years.

It would be easy to sign mediocre players but they will not get you promoted.

That isn't soo clear as I first thought.

"But we have that £8m to £10m now" may or may not be true.

And what they spend it on (transfer fees, wages, a new jacket for Mr Doughty) is anyone's guess.

You may or may not know I am a huge fan of Mr. Doughty, both personally, and as a chairman. Other clubs have fruit cake owners like QPR, like Ken Bates, Ridsdale, the Glazers, Munto.....the list goes on. At Forest we have a highly intelligent, articulate local businessman who spends heaps on Forest every year and a very stable board with not a hint of any troubles or takeovers for many years now. Like I often say when the likes of Majewski sign for us we should rejoice that we're run the way we are.

However, despite this huge support for the way Forest is run, I struggle to accept the left back situation. I understand, and agree with, not blowing a huge hole in the budget on a poor player for the sake of it. But are you telling me there's no League One, Championship or even foreign player available on a season long loan who wouldn't be better than no one at all? It's very difficult to accept. If our targets consisted only of 3 unrealistic Premier League left backs then that's a real failure on the part of either Davies, or whoever was in charge of finding one.
