He's a good keeper - or at least he was last time I saw him play a couple of years ago. Think we were looking at him as first choice a couple of years back.

You'd think would push Sels.

This squad we're assembling is ridiculous.

I had us down as finishing mid table, but with the quality being brought in throughout the squad, we should be in the top 4/5 mix

I remember not long ago I was moaning about teams bringing £150m worth of talent off the bench & wonder how we were supposed to compete - now we are doing the same. We are certainly going for it this season (when don’t we under EM?)

I think he is better than Sels.

Wow, quite some statement. One to watch then.
They are both quite similar. Sels as we know isn't a particularly flashy keeper nor is he fancy playing out from the back, he does the basic stuff well and so doesn't get the notice he should.

Livakovic has done well internationally for some time, and again isn't really flashy, just a no fuss keeper, probably the type Nuno likes as he used to play that position himself and was apparently the one who wanted Sels. He's also pretty decent on pens

Probably as good as we can get with Sels still at the club because they are very close in level. Certainly much better than Gunn.

The only thing about Livakovic is that he's not really played for anyone amazing at club level, spent a long time playing in Croatian league which a lot of the more talented players leave for a bigger league quite young.

Don't think it's possible to be better than Sels at present. Can't think of a single keeper who is.

There's a few at the same level maybe, but not better... and a second choice at Fenerbache, while decent, won't be.

Not to say we shouldn't sign him - he'd be decent competition you'd think.
He was first choice until last season but the Turkish lad they are playing is a bit younger and might better meet home grown figures if they have that there. Or maybe they think they can sell him and then use that money without weakening the team too much. Jose can be a bit weird sometimes with decisions but they end up working. Or maybe he doesn't want to stay and they've put the team first (a bit like when McLeish f**ked off Camp and played Darlow instead).

There are keepers better than Sels, but there's not much in it. In the PL there's Raya, Alisson, Ederson (though he's off), Martinez. Then looking around the national sides, the French lads (Samba and Maignan) are decent, Donnarumma, Unai Simon (despite that massive f*** up in that 5-3 in Euro 21), Belgium still have Kepa and Courtois as well as Sels, and also, I'm sure @Strummer would say whoever Der Mannschaft has is good as well. Not saying Sels isn't a top drawer keeper because we all know he is but whilst his kicking isn't a weakness he doesn't have the variety of options some others do, who are equal to him or better in other areas.

DL is also 30 so is a bit younger and whilst there's probably still plenty of time in Sels gives us a bit longer to find a younger replacement.

Honestly, I wouldn't swap any of them for Sels. Donaruma is probably the pick of the bunch and surprisingly young, but even so I'm team Matz!

Me neither, though they are better options having them around won't improve much, we don't need a sweeper keeper, imagine the keeper playing a 5 yard pass to Nikola and he'd be like, err why

Plus the money it would need would be much better spent on other player options i.e. some more full backs and maybe even a striker

If Livakovic is not first choice at Fener they probably want to offload him and he'll come cheap - like Sels did

And even Donnarumma has just been effectively bounced out of PSG by Luis Enrique.

They did the same thing with Keylor as well.

Luis Enrique is another Pep type though, he often wants players who are good on the ball ahead of other attributes including keepers. Explains why Pep liked Muric and Trafford so much...

Despite them doing that he is still one of the best keepers in the world. It would be somewhat interesting if he goes to a CL rival and then has the game of his life and knocks PSG out

Wonder how much Jose leaving Fener might affect this? It's possible that Livakovic might think that the new manager might want to play a full international GK who has played at several tournaments and done well vs some Turkish kid.
