Croatian media saying we've bid €7m for him, he has a release clause of €10. We've been linked before, but not sure of the validity of the source hence the BUPA.

If he can replicate his World Cup form, then a no brainer, he had a more than solid World Cup. £8m for a GK who can push Henderson (when fit) is a fee worth paying imo.

I'm sure he's better than Smith at least, but I can't say I'm thrilled about the prospect of spending €10m on signing a 28 year old who had spent his entire career in the Croatian leagues.

Could word it as, a player who played in a team which finished 3rd in a World Cup only a few weeks ago.
Also, a player who, in said World Cup made some outstanding saves, and noteably important penalty saves.

I always take international performances with a pinch of salt. They are basically one off games where every player plays out their skin. I've seen plenty of players who do well at international level but have mediocre club careers.

It's hard to say how and if he'd adapt to the Premier League, which is a whole different ball game to what he is used to day to day at club level.

I find it hard to keep up Gary, which is why I respect those younger members of the forum who are more clued-up with the modern game than me in terms of foreign players such as this lad.

Trying to get into conversation with my own tribe about such things is mostly a waste of time, other than my eldest son who does indulge me.

Martin Dubravka has been a very good goalkeeper for Newcastle prior to this season (being replace by Nick Pope is no shame) and he spent his time playing in Slovenia, Denmark and the Czech Republic.

Thought this guy was outstanding in the WC, good age and experience too. I think Bayern were looking at him before signing Sommer.

I don't think it's likely we will be able to get Hendo either on loan or permanent and I wouldn't want to see either Hennessey or Horvath as our first choice if we go down.

Really unfortunate for Henderson, and infuriating that United dug and dug their heels in over a permanent move / right to buy. I guess we might have done the same in their situation.
