That's my thoughts as well. I'd be worried about some of the more idiotic fans starting to get on the players backs if we don't start to do well straight away.

Back to the original question - I've always wanted promotion. No two ways about it.

Apparently tickets for Bolton fans to the Chelsea game last night were £48.

A return to the Premiership has always been 'when' rather than 'if'.

The opportunity for promotion is in our hands and we should, and will, be grasping it with both feet.

We have dared to dream of promotion this season yet if it doesn't happen then we will be in an even stronger position next year.

Either way, this season has been a success and we all will have much to celebrate. :3rd:

Chelsea need all the money they can get, it's not like they have a billionaire bankrolling the club and are in a position to use his money to make watching football an affordable pastime for all members of society. :wall:

By finishing in the play-offs we have already achieved more than most of us could reasonably have expected at the beginning of the season, especially when you consider how close we came to being relegated the season before. I remember all the posts saying that it would be nice to have a mid-table finish and not have to worry about a relegation scrap or a fight in the play-offs for promotion. Well, we have the latter and I prefer that to the former. OK, if we don't get promoted it still has been a cracking season. If we go up and only stay up for one season it won't be a disaster. We'll come back down with a decent parachute payment and, crucially, with players experienced in top flight football which is one thing we lack at the moment. By saying we're not ready for the prem and it being better for us to stay in the Championship for another season is just so much hogwash. We'll never have a team full of premiership quality players until we've been there for a season or two, and also there's no guarantee that by staying in the Championship next season we will be challenging for promotion or another play-off place. We've got to make the most of the opportunities presented to us when we get them.

I don't know what your expectations are but we've only ever won it once. But that's not the point. You strive to be the best that you can. Those that are currently at the top haven't always been there and they won't always be there in the future. It took a Russian billionaire oligarch to bring about Chelsea's successes, who says in another ten years or so he won't pack up and walk away with his billions and find a new toy to play with? Look at the Scousers! They may finish the season with nothing at all, not even a chance to get into Europe next season. Compare that to all the success they've had in the past. So, just because a club is doing well now means nothing for the future, likewise just because we have had a poor time of it over recent years doesn't mean we can't become a top team again.

I've always wanted promotion. We aren't guaranteed to have another chance next season, we could be back down the bottom end. This season the team have shown they are capable of bad runs just the same as amazing ones.

There is no guarantee next season in the championship would be like this. Chances to get promoted don't come around often enough to be turned down.

Secondly no one is ever ready for the Premiership until they get there. We have to follow the blueprint of our promotion to the championship were over two seasons our league one squad has turned to championship.

Buy 4-5 prem quality players and see who from our squad makes the step up to fight relegation. Next season after that buy 4-5 to fill the weak positions and be a solid Premiership team again. :cheers:

I was in the stay in the Championship for another year camp but now I WANT promotion. **** that, we have proven ourselves to be the 3rd best team in the Championship and now have a great chance so lets get stuck into whoever dares to stop us :D

I almost think we deserve a crack at the premiership after the season we've had.More so than Leicester,Cardiff and Swansea anyway.But the playoffs can be cruel and it dosen't work out like that at all. Of course I'd be initally dissapointed if we don't make it but if Billy Davies is in charge we'll be strong again.

I've been thinking about this and must admit, I still can't make my mind up.

The prospect of getting dicked week in and week out doesn't, at first seem appealing. But I did stick with it and was still excited and interested when we were doing the same thing in the Championship under Calderwood...I'm just worried that we're so far behind Newcastle and West Brom and I can only see them struggling in the Premiership. Still, the struggle of the play-offs, if we should be succesful should give us confidence and make our players mentally stronger.

On the flip side, sans West Brom and Newcastle, the Championship could actually be a much weaker division next year as the likes of Burnley, Hull and Portsmouth just don't have the same level of resource as our Geordie and Brummie friends, so if we can continue to build on our achievements this year, automatic promotion is a possibility, with a better prepared and stronger squad.

Of course, nothing should be taken for granted and we could struggle with the weight of expectation if we stay down and possibly see some of our better players targeted by Premiership sides.

This is why I fear us going up - not because of what might happen on the pitch but because of the attitude of some fans. There are certain fans who would spend their whole lives moaning about the lack of ambition and support from ND / AP etc unless we spend something like £40M to bring in Premiership quality.

Christ, some of them have been moaning this season, can you imagine what they'll be like if we are struggling in the Premiership ........????

I can imagine if we stayed in the CCC, and things didn't go as well as last year (which I think it's likely they won't unless we keep the exact same squad and add to it), the amount of whinging and bullshit there will be posted.

So yes, I want to go up, if only to avoid that for a year.

I'd also like to see how our defence would do in the Prem. I think Camp, Gunter, Wilson and Wes deserve a crack at it, and would do well with some real quality midfielders bought to play in front of them.

And also, unlike Derby, we'll actually play Earnie!

We needed to make those buys because of our squad lack of depth , depending on the youngsters was never going to be the solution no thanks to our useless board , they make sure of that and we nearly suffered for it.
ND has never been proactive , he's reactive. He reacts when situation goes bad - proven time and again. If we go up , there is absolutely no guarantee that he will really go for it and let Billy do what's necessary , instead he'll likely just sit back and rely on his cumbersome AP which is always likely to screw up and then we make do as we always do under his reign.

I personally think it would be a great time to go up as we can easily match the two teams we are potentially going up with a some of the Dith and some of the rubbish which is also up there at moment, we stand a great chance of finishing 17th!

Likes of Wolves Bolton etc Garbage !

So. We screwed up all the way to division 3 and then screwed up all the way back again to the highest placed finish since Nigel Doughty saved Nottingham Forest from going out of business. Fair enough.

According to the published figures he's still bailing us out to the tune of £5m a year. If it's a screw up at least he's prepared to fund it which is a lot more than many chairmen have done.

We'd lose a lot, but it'd be a great experience, we'd get more money and we wouldn't do as badly as Derby!

Yeah , he's our saviour , yeah , he's put in a lot of money but then think of the prize at stake at the end of it and yet we saw the end result in january and loan window.

Instead of relying on the lottery of the playoffs , we could have easily go up by automatic if we had shown any kind of statement of intent in january but as something that has been pretty much commonplace under ND's reign , we do nada , we let the opportunity slip away and we "make do". Yes , we still have a chance at going up but we could have easily avoided all of it. We were on level points with Newcastle and 5 points ahead of West Brom at one point , we let it slip.

Out of every team in the championship , only crystal palace & forest ended up after the transfer window getting weakened , Palace is in administration , what was our reason ? You can talk about all the bids to Moses , Pratley etc all we want but the fact of the matter is , we did not get them or anyone in and we still lost a proper left back in Shorey.
