Dodo (Domilson dos Santos)

I’ve only seen him a few times but he’s quick and fits the brief for flying forward on the break as per Glasners palace side.

Not sure his defensive qualities are quite up to snuff but he’d be part of a back 5 essentially so I’m good with it.
Good insight 👍

It always makes me a bit nervous when you hear things about EM having ambitions of us being back in Europe ASAP and then the signings we make not quite matching that ambition.

If qualifying for Europe is the idea we probably needed to be looking at 3 or 4 signings who immediately improve the starting XI, Diomande certainly looks like that kind of signing. Dodo, as you say, seems a decent option but not someone who's gonna be a clear upgrade on Ola.
It upgrades the competition / back up for Aina though. So if Aina goes off or is rested we don’t have to have Zach Abbott (for example) lumbering up and down the flank. It’s a fairly cheap stop gap. Read would be nice and one for the future but is he likely to be any better this season?

Completely agree it's fine as a backup option like I said, but that kind of recruitment needs to be taken into account when we're setting expectations imo. Same as if Schlager ends up being the only addition in centre mid.

Lovely, cheers Hux.

Schira says it's almost done. Only €10mn (£8.6mn) which is a bargain price

At £10m, I’m pretty happy with this one. Good backup/challenger for Aina, allowing Moreira to hopefully have a more successful loan. Seems to fit the Glasner wingback profile and gives us more money to spend elsewhere.

It remains to be seen whether he'll be any better than Savona, but you'd imagine we'll make some profit on this exchange as we'll probably sell Savona for more than £10m.

At 28, this isn't really a deal that's in line with our usual recruitment strategy, but it's relatively low-risk if he's back-up to Aina, and Williams can play RWB too.

He's very different to Savona!

This one is not setting my pants on fire, but as others have said, it may be a sign that funds are being pushed into other areas and it does provide a different profile of player to what we already have.

A striker is still top priority for me.

At the very least he'd fit the wingback role better than Savona would.

There's a fair bit of similarity between him and Aina here and it's like him and Munoz were made in the same factory. The lad is quick too.

What’s Brazilian for ‘Megs ’?

Their No20 looks shockingly bad. Hope he’s not part of the deal!

He is only that price because he is now in the last year of his contract and won’t sign a new one.
Could turn out to be a very good signing.
Don’t forget we got Aina from Torino for nothing on a 1 year deal - that didn’t turn out too badly

"Caneta" is megs

Yes, he loves that little roll with the sole of his foot to lollipop it through their legs.

It really depends what our sell is though, doesn't it. Clearly we're very invested in Aina as a player, so I suspect a 'cheap(er) but quality enough RWB' is what we're after rather than someone who's gonna step straight into the 11 - cos any players we're going after of the quality you suggest would expect to come straight into the prem stating lineup, and perhaps that's not what we're after
I can only go off the reports that were if we are bringing players in, it is to improve the first 11, which would go against this. I love Aina, but he is going to be 30 this October, was brought in on a free transfer and will be on decent but modest wages in comparison to the rest of the squad. Not sure how 'invested' we are in him long term.

However, for the price we are paying for Dodo (reportedly) it is a low risk signing who offers some competition and allows us to spend more on say a central midfielder or striker.

I too was under the impression that it was going to be quality over quantity this summer.

I know it doesn't always work this way but generally 'quality' costs and £8m doesn't 'normally' buy you a great deal of quality in the Premier League these days. So the fee suggests a squad player rather than a bona fide starter.

Of course it might just be a very shrewd bit of scouting but it does seem as if this lad was our 3rd choice at best.

Perhaps someone cleverer than me can explain how we can sell Elanga for £55m, a few others combining to another £50m or so and then drop £205m last season (according to Transfermarkt) but this season we have already brought in £130m+ with more to go and seem to be negotiating every single penny and seemingly missing out on targets as a result. Is it a result of all the money we wasted last summer? Or just the transition to SCR from FFP which non-cartel clubs are struggling with? Both of which I could accept.

I was fairly sceptical about this one but I can see the logic. He looks like a player we would bring on in the last 20 minutes especially if we're chasing the game -- quick, aggressive and willing to run at the opposition. For the price, he looks very good value.

For the WB role, it's possible he might be better then Aina at the moment. Not sure we fully know yet. 🤷‍♀️

He's in the last year of his contract. Don't forget Marc Guehi only went for £20M when he went into that final year. I wouldn't get bogged down on the fee too much as it's more on the side of a shrewd bit of business for a player that fits the bill and has a lot of similar qualities to Munoz.

To answer your final question I suspect we're going to go big on a striker and potentially a CM so we're keeping our powder dry a little bit. The players we have brought in so far seem to have been specifically targeted either by Glasner or our recruitment team so I'm quietly content thus far. If we go and get the striker too then I think we've had a good window.
