I imagine plenty of Newcastle fans thought the same at the start of their 'French revolution' but soon realised they were getting quality players at reasonable prices.

As could be said for some of the South American gems unearthed by Roberto Martinez whilst at Wigan.
 
Sometimes you see videos of players and they show goals and stuff... etc but you can see they're not as good as it's made out. However, this guy looks different to me, some real quality.

Be very excited if we got this done.

Not if we follow our transfer form so far this time and offer £30 for him.

Need to go in and make them a sensible offer if we're serious.
 
Can always remember the first time I saw him play. Would have been a league cup game early in the 2013-14 season. Didn't really do anything to write off at that stage, but nothing to suggest he was going to be any good either. The 2 lads were having none of this though, absolutely raving about him to the point one said to the other "Abdoun's going to rip the Championship a new one". Still makes me laugh now.
 
Vaguely remember his debut, came on for the last 10/15 minutes in a league game and complained every time a team mate didn't pass to him, it was like watching a kid in the playground. That was weird. Then there was the West Ham penalty incident snatching the ball off Andy Reid and then doing a panenka when it was 0-0...no one really celebrated with him if I remember correctly.

An odd fella. Encapsulated the madness of King Billy II era perfectly though...
 
I have always found the celebrating on his own more of a reflection of how toxic that dressing room was rather than Abdoun being a melt himself.

It was similar with Djebbour when nobody would ever pass to him - there were loads of players that had no interest in the team & were acting in self interest.

If you want more examples, Gonzalo Jara pulling out of challenges, Lascelles & Darlow just coasting & the latter more bothered about his hair before they went back to Newcastle, Kelvin Wilson on his retirement tour, Jamie Paterson thinking he was Eden Hazard, Blackstock just not caring about football anymore, Chalobah not running, Ishmael Miller unable to run, Andy Reid thinking he was running the club.

An underratedly awful dressing room & they probably made no effort in trying to integrate players like Abdoun & Djebbour - stemmed from the manager of course who was doing his insane North Korea style interviews & twitter QA's announcing revenge.

The professionalism of the club & the Championship is general is worlds apart to what it is now

Always struck me as a player that could have thrived in a strong environment where he was able to be the loose cannon but putting him in that batshit team was always going to be a disaster

Yeah, us being away from the top division for 23 seasons wasn't an accident, we were our own worst enemy at times. These days its the PGMOL but back then, if we were a horse, they'd have shot us.
