disturbing statistic.....

from an owls fan on 606

Forest displayed the worst time wasting that I have seen in many seasons. Opta had the ball in play for 39 minutes 42 seconds in 97 minutes played, the lowest figure at Hillsborough since they started keeping records and the lowest at a CCC match for over two seasons.

i for one think our time wasting is getting ridiculous

we are fast becoming sheffield utd.

Does he have a link for these opta stats?

I always saw time wasting a desperate attempt to win or draw when your team has no other avenues. I.e your shit

Do the Opta stats give an indication of which team was doing the time-wasting?

There WERE two teams involved yesterday, weren't there?

At one point yesterday, think it was Camp's antics that may have prompted it, but I said to my mate we're slowly turning into Sheffield United (under Warnock)

Fray and McGovern were very critical of our time wasting tactics yesterday.

Despite any moral qualms you may have, why were we time wasting at 1-1?? Wednesday were there for the taking! I personally see no problem with wasting time towards the end of a game, which we are winning. But when we are drawing, in the first half, it makes very little sense.
One point I would make is that our good form towards the end of last season coincided with the introduction of tactics like this, and whilst I didn't particularly like to see it, it beats being relegated in my book.

I think we may have to get used to this. Billy's tactics are clear enough, try to get a victory at home and not get beat away from home. To start slowing the game down in the first half when we were in the ascendancy (the radio implied) seems ridiculous. I'm very worried about these negative tactics, why on earth wasn't earnie brought on yesterday?
IF we were serious about going for a win, we'd have brought him on.
Billy seems content to play this way unfortunately ~ and how are we doing? look at the table, not good enough for promotion.

To be fair, I would say that we have deserved a few more points than we have got, and if you add that to the fact that we had a difficult start to the season, we are not doing terribly. Plus, our recent form shows a morale-boosting win over our fiercest rivals followed by a good point away from home against a side 8th in the league.

I hear what you're saying but I think he's too negative, yes we have had some bad luck and yes we managed to hold on against Derby but too often we sit back or avoid going in for the kill. This thinking must come from the manager and I don't think it will be good enough to get us promoted.

I dont think timewasting was the problem to be honest for 80 mins of the game it was movement off the ball.

Weather camp had really banged his head is another matter and that could have been the case but 9/10 times on throw ins there was one player stood like a statue and the others miles away.

go back over the last ten years and think how many games we have chucked away in the last ten mins which we could of avoided if we had just run the clock down, yeovil in the play offs jumps to mind, so I think the abillity to run the clock down and waste time can get us results we need, but I do think we over do it a bit at times.

Its so negative. What are we trying to do this season? Surely the main aim has to be to get as close to the top 6 as possible. We won't go down whatever happens because we've got too much quality so why aren't we trying to win these games when they are there for the taking. Qpr was the same.

The best teams win home and away. Surely we should be trying to win every game instead of wasting time we should back ourselves that we are better the the opposition - which, in most cases this season i think we have been.

Our time wasting was a f***ing joke yesterday. As soon as we went ahead we spent the entire game trying to slow the game down as opposed to trying to press home our advantage.

Was depressing to see.

I'm not saying base our gameplan or primary tactics around this,

But I think its absolutly great we now go an extra mile to see a game out.

Well done Billy for giving this club a sense of real fighting competition.. and to get the team to win (or not lose!) through any means neccessary!
Afterall we have lacked that bite for so, so long.

So its a good thing that we shut up shop when the game is there for the taking?

As a player, there's few things more enjoyable than taking an age over a throw in/free kick/substitution when you're 1-0 up...

I don't think the time wasting itself is the problem, Wednesday were looking dangerous in possesion and we were under the kosh a little. Camps antics enabled us to slow down the pace of the game and there was a visible impact on the momentum they had. Like it or not it definately took the sting out of their tale and allowed us to get organised. The problem is we need to be a bit cuter in the way we do it or we run the risk of p**sing off the reff.
I think its pretty harsh criticising billy for being negative for this. Before we can start winning games we have to become difficult to beat, setting the tempo to suit ourselves is a big part of this and plenty of sides waste time in order to do this, why not us? Someone already made the sheff utd comparrison, well they've been a consistantly strong team at this level for years. Its no coincidence that their players know how to controll the pace of a game and frustrate the opposition. No one would be complaining of negativity if we'd put away one of those good chances and taken all 3 points. A point away from home is nearly always a good result, especially against one of the divisions form teams, can't understand why some seem to be getting on the managers back for it.

The Opta stats thing is pure bull.

Yes waste time when you are ahead why not? Frustrate the opposition, but we had plenty of chances to win and certainly didn't play for the draw.

mid-table going all out for the win and losing some games??

mid-table playing dirty, time wasting and drawing the majority of games??

Most teams still come to the CG and time waste if they go ahead. WBA, Carson in particular, were time wasting for most of the game. I recall counting 8 Watford players kicking the ball away or picking it up when it was our free kick/throw in.

And we say time wasting. But actually most of the time goal kicks and throw ins in the second half take no longer than they usually do at the start of the game, people just think they do.

Plus, the ref has a stop watch for a reason. If the ball isn't 'in play' for a satisfactory length of time, it's his fault.

I think that like many other teams that play away from home we looked to break up play and hit on the counter and slowing the game where neccessary, however with a number of our players not used to be so 'professional' and also camp exaggerating from time to time, it made it look worse than what is was. On a couple of occassions second half their keeper took over 10 seconds to kick the ball up field which if he had been camp their home fans would have been shouting for time wasting etc..

I sat there a few times first half and though we were a little bit over the top but no worse than alot of teams that have come to forest over the years.
