Ipswich Town Cards

Martin 25 mins. (Booked) dissent
Leadbitter 45 mins. (Booked) unsporting behaviour
Colback 86 mins. (Booked) unsporting behaviour
McAuley 90 mins. (Sent Off) professional foul

Nottm. Forest Cards

Garner 32 mins. (Booked) unsporting behaviour
Gunter 41 mins. (Booked)unsporting behaviour
Adebola 69 mins. (Booked) unsporting behaviour
McGoldrick 79 mins. (Booked) unsporting behaviour

Looking at the discipline stat's above you would think it was a dirty game throughout.

I listened to the commentary on the BBC with John McGovern & Colin Fray and not once did either of these two indicate it was an ill fought match.

Questions must be asked of some of the referees and their decisions. Did the game really warrent all these bookings - If you went to the match it would be nice to hear your comments.

Listening to the match I suspect McAuley deserved his red but what of the others?

I also think, Billy should be having a quite word with Garner - 7 games - 5 bookings - 1 suspension says it all.

I noticed Colin Frey say at the start of the second half, "I hope the ref has left his whistle in the changing room" :)

I think that's the result of a quiet word, rather than needing one.

Agreed. He's been told to be a horrible little shit, especially away from home. I can't quite see :leacock: Cohen having the same effect somehow.

Well, he doesn't need a suspension.

He might find it hard to get back into the side if we do well without him and to be honest he's been lucky to have played in all the matches he has so far this season.

I like the lad for his grit and determination but all his bookings are avoidable and are brought about by himself through lack of discipline.

Earnshaw deserves Garners place in the team - afterall he will score more goals even from the position Garner plays in.

Didn't Adebola get booked for kicking the ball to the Ipswich keeper when it was their free kick? Gunter also apparantly got told off for kicking the ball towards the Ipswich player who was going to take a throw.

Though, Lee Martin did get booked for picking the ball up and trying to walk off with it when it was our free kick.

It didn't sound like a dirty game at all (until McAuley intervened), just the usual few late tackles.

Do you honestly think Billy hadn't thought about that?

It's been clear as day that he has been deployed with the intention of niggling people, and yellow cards are the consequence there, as too is the inevitable suspension that follows.

I imagine it crossed Billys mind a little that we'd lose him for a game.

Niggling & fouling is one thing when it comes to bookings but you can not make excuses for anyone getting booked when they mouth off to the officials or kicks the ball away.

Shaggers Savage hasn't ever been booked 5 times in 7 matches.

Garner 32 mins. (Booked) unsporting behaviour went in hard on one of there defenders. Probably deserved. Looked like he was going to get sent off most oft he night
Gunter 41 mins. (Booked)unsporting behaviour deserved as far as I could see, niggling at there player all night.
Adebola 69 mins. (Booked) unsporting behaviour booked for shooting 5 seconds after whistle for offside. Ridiculous!
McGoldrick 79 mins. (Booked) unsporting behaviour can't remamber this one

the ref had a pretty bad game all round to be honest. Leadbitters card for Ipswich, seemed to be as a direct result of Gunter pressuring the guy. The card didn’t come out until several words had been exchanged. He didn’t really seem to have a clue what he was doing. Several times he gave a free kick, but was very unclear in the direction of his arm as to who it had been awarded to.

From what I've seen and certainly at Wednesday, Garner tends to get in the ref's face early in the match (he is probably rude and abusive to them). They don't seem to be too fond of him after that and are then itching to book him for the first (even mild) offence he carries out. Plain daft. He can upset opposition players just by keeping at them, but he must pay some attention to the rules. Personally, I think he was unlucky to be booked at Wednesday .......... but he had already upset the ref........

Last night's ref was poor for both sides. He changed his mind numerous times on decision.

Adebola was booked because he carried on and went to score after the ref had blew his whistle. Gunter was constantly having little pop's at their left winger, so came as no surprise when he did get booked.
All in all, the ref made it a worse game than it should have been.

Joe Garner is the type of player you would hate to go against. He knows how to work the system and win free kicks, wind-up the opposition. The guy is a quality player
