disappointing transfer activity

Hi by the way i am new to the forum. been a forest fan for around 10 years and thought i would join a forum and tell you guys some of my feelings towards the club.

am i the only one who has this far been disappointed by the activity in the transfer window for forest and billy davies?

we need a left back, a right back, unfortunately we also need a left midfielder now. i am not a hundred percent sure about our right midfield position either. i think a decent striker is also needed. althought i feel garner earnshaw and tyson are great strikers we still need at least one more in case of injuries etc. just as is the case with whats happened this week with garner now suspended for derby game and tyson and earnshaw doubtful which leaves us without a recognised striker?

i gurantee that by the end of the window, we will have at least 2 new players.

and welcome.

I reckon Billy will dip into the transfer market.

I'm not too disappointed that he hasn't so far, it's not like we've utilised the January window for many a year, why start now?

Welcome to the forum, stick around, it's good fun.

Well seeing he only came into the side during this transfer window, he has had to make a quick evaluation of a side that is new to him. Look at where he feels needs strengthened and then go out and see who is available that he thinks that will better the current side.

I for one haven't been worried by the lack of activity for this reason I would rather he waited than rushing in just to please some fans by bringing in new faces.

He clearly wants to make the right signings for the team and i'm glad he taking his time. I think we will have at least two signings by the end of the window and then maybe a loan signing after, if he feels its neccesary and the right player becomes available for loan.

Welcome BTW...

I'm not dissapointed. Billy has told us from day one he isn't going to rush into the transfer window. We all know money is available so I'm not surprised there is any news as yet. I'd expect more news by the weekend. Possibly starting tomorrow afternoon :)

Hello and welcome! :)

The transfer window was always going to be mundane. Aside from the fact our January dealings always have been, the change in manager right before the window opened couldn't have come at a worse time in terms of for want of signing new players. The new man would have needed time to assess the squad, time to compile a list of players and time for the board to consider those players, which is why we're into the last three days of the window with a lack of activity.

However, in saying that, I agree with PVH that we'll have a couple of players in on Saturday. They may not be big name signings but they'll beef the squad up a bit. I fully expect to see a defender come in; centre half and/or left back alongside a midfielder just to beef the squad up. They'll probably be a bit older than our current crop and be an out of favour player in this league.

I wouldn't get too down hearted yet either, even though the window closes for permanent signings, we can still get players in on loan for 3 months after the window shuts. Our main aim is to stay up this year, so I expect Billy to utilise the loan market until we are in a better position to expand the squad permanently in the summer.

Stick around, this forum is the best you'll find on Forest.

As always, I'm reasonably happy that we haven't rushed in and signed someone without taking our time, thinking about it and assesing the player properly.

History shows us that is how we end up with players like Eugene Dadi.

You can end up with him if you leave it till midnight on the last day.

To be honest, I think this 'window' nonsense just causes a load of unnecessary panic and expectation. It's like, just because the transfer window is there, we absolutely have to buy someone.

No. I'd rather us not just go and buy players for the sake of it. Say we do, we may end up with 3 or 4 Lynch's, instead of one or two quality players.

It's unlikely we'll get a 4th striker who is as good as the 3 we have, who'll either be happy to sit on the bench or won't cost top dollar... perhaps Brett Ormerod is available on loan again? ;D

Haha Dadi I had forgotten about that plonker!

I was beginning to think we wouldn't be getting anyone in, Davies was honest in saying there wasnt much going on and I think a lot of enquiries had failed, but now im optimistic we will see a couple new and definately some loans.

Welcome to the forum!

I'm relatively new here as well but i've found since I've been on here it's much easier to keep up to date with news surrounding Forest. We have a sort of 'man on the inside' named Capello (where is he, by the way?!) who is usually spot on with info etc.

With regards to this window being quiet, it was always going to be. Billy said almost as soon as he was appointed that he ideally wants a couple of months to prepare for transfers and contingencies etc, coming in on 5th Jan could hardly have helped the guy. He has only had 3 or 4 matches officially in charge to assess the squad so any business was always going to be done in the last couple of days.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a new striker and left back in by the weekend, with hopefully a left-sided midfielder/winger and possibly another in on Monday.

re: loans. Billy has said he does not agree with loan signings for teams that are either pushing for promotion or fighting relegation (think this was said in an interview with NEP a couple of days ago). This makes sense in my opinion because players that, for instance, help you get promoted might well catch the eye of a secured team in that league who make a move. Likewise decent loan signings who happen to be with you if you go down will not want to play a lower standard of football. Season long loans like Anderson are exceptions as I'd imagine there'd be a number of clauses in the contract allowing the team to buy the player under certain circumstances.

But yeah, don't expect to see any short-term loans come in but instead 3 or 4 carefully selected, quality players with the experience necessary to bolster and add to the squad, rather than completely change it. As I've said before, experience doesn't always mean a player is over 30.

Welcome mate.

It can very easily be argued that transfer activity has been disppointing and I totally agree we require a left back, a right back and a winger essentially and then we need some cover across the whole side. We look set to be going into our next game against quality promotion contenders with a squad that has only 1 fit senior striker, academy graduate left backs and relatively inexpierenced players across the whole squad.

However, would you be happy to see panic buys coming through the doors? Would you be pleased if we jumped into signings and got another Nicky Eaden, Gino Padula or Scott Dobie? I know we are desperate but transfers cost serious amounts of money and can have a huge affect on the outcome of the season. Davies was appointed Just coming into January. He has to take time to get to know the squad, figure out their strengths and weaknesses and get to know the overall team as a group, only after that should we be looking to strengthen our side.

I think he has had time to do that. He has made it clear he has made a short list up and I am sure they are players who will improve our squad rather than increase the numbers. Transfers need to be considered a lesson we have learnt over time and one that will be reinforced by this board.

No panic,I'm sure Billy knows what and who he wants and they will be brought in when the time is right,I think we will see some activity by monday anyway in key areas.

Welcome!

No need to be disappointed, We have a good squad at the moment. We do need to bring a bit of experience in, but I'm sure Billy knows what he's doing, He will be keeping us up!

Welcome,

I did read last week that the January transfer window is the opposite of the January sales.........

In the January sales, people pay below RRP for something that is no longer wanted to clear out old stock.

In the January transfer window Old unwanted stock is sold at inflated prices to desperate shoppers. It actually underlined the point with Manchester City blowing millions on Bridges and Bellamy.

I want and expect Billy to shop with a cool calculating head, not panic.

Not to mention De Jong. They paid about 18 million for a player who had a clause in his contract which said that he could leave for about 2,5 million in the summer!!!
