Derby Ticket Disgrace

I know it might seem like I am starting a new thread for the sake of it but I am so angry this morning that I feel I need to.

Having been to 7 of 12 away games this season I felt that I should be in a position to get tickets to Derby away. This morning I got my letter saying that I had missed out. Now firstly I am gutted and secondly I am angry at the club.

So far this season I have been to amongst others Plymouth on a Sunday afternoon, Cardiff on a Sunday evening, Crystal Palace (which has to be one of the worst grounds to get to in the country). This has cost me a hell of a lot of money but I have lived with that. I expected that this should be enough to get me a ticket to the biggest game of the season. I wouldn't be quite so angry if I had missed out because there were 2,800 odd people who had been to 8, 9, 10 games but this isn't the case.

There are a lot of people who haven't been to one away game this season who have brought an away membership and got a ticket. This in my eyes is wrong and shows that all the club are really bothered about is making money. Now you might say that I should have just stumped up and brought an away membership but I felt after having already spent £100s and £100s of pounds following Forest this season that another £60 was just too much. This has now cost me a ticket to the game I was looking forward to more than any other.
What suprises me more is that my friend who has been to 9 of 12 away games hasn't got one either what the hell is the club playing at?

Some of the places I went in League 1 when we were getting allocations of 500-1000 and never struggled to get a ticket then Cheltenham, Carlsile etc.

I Hope that all those people who have jumped on the bandwagon enjoy their day cause I can tell you something I won't be.

The away membership scheme is a disgrace. It needs to be scrapped next season. The club should prioritise by number of games attended not by the balance of your bank account.

I agree100% with bigredwill

I read on the derby ticket thread that a guy claims to have a ticket on 6 games ??

This game was always going to cause problems i have missed palace and watford only and i still have no word

about tickets, the problem for me is this i buy 1 adult and 3 kids season tickets ( the kids have 6,8and8) away games

so why should i pay an extra £120 for 4 away members

I agree with you that the Away Membership scheme is a disgrace and wrongly prioritises the loyalty of supporting fans.

At the beginning of the season, it was clear that there were going to be a number of away games where demand would outstrip supply, none moreso than the Derby game. For those people who put this fixture at the very top of the pile, buying Away Membership was a priority to guarantee ticket availability. It's easy in hindsight, yet if this game is so important to you then buying a membership to guarantee this game rather than missing one of the other away games would have been worth it.

The club do need to review their loyalty system for tickets for next season. Should we find ourselves at the very top of the league then it's going to get more and more difficult to buy tickets next season.

I understand your anger and completely agree that it should`ve gone on how many games you`ve been to BUT why take the chance on missing out of what you call 'the most important game of the season' for the sake of £30/£60? Surely from a selfish point of view it would`ve been better to miss Palace away so you could save the cash to guarantee yourself a ticket for a game you really really want to attend? Also if someone offered you a ticket now for £60 would you take it?

They won`t scrap the away membership because its the only way they can make money on away matches i assume.

I guess ultimately it all comes down to the spiteful allocation by the scum. I can only hope the club bear this in mind if we play them again next season at the CG.

I completely agree it's unfair, I would prefer it if it weren't there, however we all knew the potential pitfalls of Forest's modus operandi and as such we need to cut our cloth accordingly. I bought away membership along with my season ticket. I've done about 7 away games this season I think, so if you were to distribute fans according to games attended then I should have got one anyway.

You certainly should have done - are you sure, with that many away games, you ensured all sales were logged against your client reference number? I've heard from people who've been to six who got a ticket...

I understand your frustration, last season the same nearly happened to me even though I only missed 2 away games all season.

The ticket office didnt use my client reference number for all the games I went to and I nearly missed out, I had to get a letter from the supporters club to help me out.

Due to this I decided to purchase the Away Membership this season and have used it for the 8 away games I have been to.

I think the club should stop selling the Away Membership on the day of the first away game or make it so you can only purchase one when you buy your season ticket.

It should not be used as a system to jump the queue for "bigger" games.

Surely to stop this sort of thing happening, why don't they stop the sale of away membership after August?

There is nothing wrong with the Away Membership scheme per se, purely the way it is abused, and the abuse being allowed by the club. This would be the only way to stop this ridiculous situation arising.

This was always going to happen though wasn't it?

I have been told of two people who haven't been to a single away game all season that have somehow managed to get hold of a ticket!

I just bought an away membership before the Birmingham game for £30 as a season ticket holder.

I've got mine.

Cheers

It's the away membership system that allows this to happen, though.

The club actively track (or attempt to track - with mixed results!) sales of away tickets by client reference numbers, simply allowing people to skip the queue past Reds who've been to numerous away games for an 'administration fee' of £30 is ludicrous when you think about it.

As far as I can tell the only administration is the goon in the ticket office marking a box on your customer records that says "Away member" - it takes all of two minutes. Are you telling me that the time of our ticket office staff is worth £900 an hour?

It's pure greed from the club - a quick buck, for very little work, and gives people who have provided less cumulative cash to the club an opportunity to trump those that have. Next season, if things continue to go well (and regardless of promotion I'd say), the demand for away membership will outstrip supply of away tickets from some grounds.

What then? An 'Away membership membership' to create another 'front of the queue' system?

I think it's called fast track, in Alton Towers, Disneyland, Airport Security. It's not right, but it's here..

People who have been to seven away matches, must be mad not to have bought an away membership.

This was always going to happen

Of course it's wrong that disloyal fans who can afford to pay extra get a ticket. But there's nothing anyone can do about it. For me, Derby tickets should have been allocated not on the basis of this season but the past three seasons, which would include League One matches - that would sort the loyal fans from the disloyal ones. But it's a what have you done for me lately attitude with Forest - ie. how much money have you pumped in. And in that regard, you going to x amount of away games doesn't bring measurable revenue into the club in the same way as 2000 people at £30 do. Looking at Forest's supporter base at the minute, you'll start to see faces in the crowd you haven't seen for yonks. Glory hunters, etc. Some of them will probably be at Derby by virtue of buying a HALF season-ticket and an away membership. Disgraceful. They could have been to no matches for the past five years and still get a Derby ticket.

That's true, they should have previous seasons' purchasing records to inform these decisions.

It sounds like there's the need for some sort of scheme that allows people's loyalty to be rewarded. There are advantages to this scheme, though I can't see it happening soon -there's nothing on the cards...
