More likely to be because it was originally scheduled for Boxing Day, so they'd have to pay the police a fortune to work it.

excellent news, thanks again Forest...scuppers my chances of attending. Would have been fine as the 28th is a bank holiday but the Wednesday becomes a working day (for me at any rate).

28th is also a bank holiday, with Christmas and Boxing Day falling on a weekend, so we'd have to pay Plod double time.

Why the fixture list scheduled this game for Christmas is beyond my understanding of automated scheduling anyway.

Boxing Day is the 27th December this year because the 26th is a Sunday. The public holiday in lieu of Boxing Day is the 28th.

Boxing Day in the United Kingdom is the day after Christmas Day and falls on December 26. Traditionally, it was a day when employers distributed money, food, cloth (material) or other valuable goods to their employees. In modern times, it is an important day for sporting events and the start of the post-Christmas sales.

Quick Facts
Boxing Day is a holiday in the United Kingdom that falls on December 26 each year.

Grow up yourself Henry Lee. As Boxing Day is designated as a holiday, having it on a Sunday means the holiday has to be carried forward to the next working day. Because the holiday for Christmas Day is moved to the Monday 27th, the Boxing Day holiday becomes Tuesday 28th.

I blame the Jews.

Right, so, everyone complained last season when they put Newcastle on telly every week saying it wasn't fair. Yet every time they put us on telly everyone whinges, moans and complains because it means they have to shift the game.

You can't have it both ways! Man the f**k up and accept it. Being on telly = money. And also means that fans like me who live far away get to see games.

NO! Boxing Day is the 26th. The 28th is just a Bank Holiday. Get over it sister

But also a match originally scheduled for 1500 the previous day now becomes an evening kick off.

So there will no doubt be a large police presence, as they will consider that people will have had all day to drink before turning up.

Still, I'd agree with previous posters, bit of a daft time of year for such a key game, what with the return fixture a little over three weeks afterwards.

Although of course it does give the players an extra day's rest after the Boxing Day trip to the grim north to face Middlesboro.

That's my point - Boxing Day is still Boxing Day, but the accompanying Bank Holiday has to move to a day within the Monday-Friday working week. Otherwise, you'd have a bank holiday on a Sunday, which sounds like something a Tory government would do.

Either way, a 7.45 ko gives us public sector types an extra 4 hours and 45 minutes of pre match drinking time.

Gives us more recovery time from the trip to Boro, so I'm not too bothered.

26th December is still St Stephen's Day this year, but not Boxing Day. Anyone celebrating Boxing Day on the 26th will look a fool.

I'm planning a boxing day party on the 28th.

It will be the best party ever, and everyone is invited, so long as they know the party is on boxing day.
