Dele Adebola

We've taken more points per game when Adebola hasn't started than when he has done. Being a good target man isn't about leaning into people and 'contesting them.' That's the bare minimum of being a target man.

It's going to take something bad from Adebola or amazing from Blackstock for me to change my mind about who is better at that job.

I'm pretty amazed that anyone would think that after last night.

Blackstock played against a bloke 6 inches bigger than him and consistently troubled him in the air, he scored a goal, he helped set up umpteen other chances for the other strikers/advancing midfielders.

For £800k or whatever he cost, Blackstock's proving to be one of the best value signings we've made in yonks and certainly one of the best of his type in the division, a completely different class to Adebola.

Both Adebola & Blackstock have their uses. Both are big guys who troubled defenders , both have different atributes that contribute to the team. Blackstock is a good predatory striker who will pounce on anything inside the box , most if not all his goals are from the 6 yard area inside the box , so far i have yet to see Blackstock attempting anything from outside the box.
He's not as strong as Adebola but he's a bit more mobile and of course , younger. At QPR , the common complaint about him is that he's lazy and doesn't contribute much to the teamplay which is a complete opposite to what we see here at forest which is the way he has worked hard for the team and helped out with an assist or 2.

There's no reason why we had to compare one to the other , this isn't a competition.

One or two rungs up the ladder from Eugene Dadi in the 'massive target man causes havok but can't play stakes'

Useful to a degree but hardly an essential player when we've got 5 others.

The NFFC striking hierachy:

1. Earnshaw
2. Blackstock
3. Tyson
4. Garner
5. McGoldrick
6. Adebola

yes?

I totally agree with this statement and don't know why so many people feel the need to decide one way or the other. None of our strikers will be playing every game - Billy has made that very clear.

And as for the comment from another post about the points per game when Ade plays as opposed to when he doesn't ....... do you not think that is because he is picked to play in the tough, ugly away games when a point is a great result? The fact that he didn't play last night is an indication that he won't be picked in games where we are likely to dominate and more likely to win comfortably. We should be grateful to have a player who is happy to do the ugly stuff, without getting much credit for doing so.

At the end of the season it is the handful of extra points gained in tough away games that will decide where we finish.

I think that Blackstock has, for now at least, established himself as the striker the rest of the attack is built around, but I couldn't pick between the other five.

And how do we know Adebola would not have done better? We don't! He did have a very good game last night and as I said he is a better overall striker but we don't know How Dele would cope against him but Im fairly sure that he would do a good job of it.

Dexter is cool.

Dex and Earnie would make the best pairing we've had since PVH and Campbell.

Well I like Dele. BD insists rotation is the way forward. I don't agree - I think he should pick his best 11 and stick with it. However, I think he should use the breadth of talent we have in the squad better during the game. Last night, McGoldrick (IMHO) looked good when he came on. I still think that Dele could be used to give opponents another set of problems during the game. I wouldn't imagine many defences exactly enjoy playing against him. He's strong, mobile, brave and awkward. BTW - BD's comments about negativity in the EP tonight ....... I think when we play at home....
1. We should be able to play two out and out strikers (although the aforementioned McGoldrick was good). I like Garner, but he isn't suited to the role of linking midfield and attack - play him alongside the main striker (Dex).
2. We should always keep two players up for opposition corners (preferably someone good in the air and someone like lightning [Tys]. We may just find ourselves under less pressure - they'd have to keep 4 back.
3. Why let the players drop back so far? 2-0 up, fairly comfortably in control, then passed the initiative to the opposition.

Message for BD - we get a little negative as fans when we see what we consider obvious going on (or not going on).
