Dele Adebola

This is a serious question - how can anybody, having seen Adebola play, think that he is good? I see a big lump who doesn't win headers, who is slow and lethargic, who is offside four or five times a game - an inexcusable offence for a man of such experience and lack of pace - and who cannot score for toffee. He hasn't formed a partnership with anybody, he is an inferior footballer IN EVERY RESPECT to our other target-man, Dexter Blackstock, and is apparently on ridiculously high wages into the bargain.

I see absolutely nothing in him whatsoever. When he starts matches, it makes me want to leave the stadium or fall asleep. But there are some people who rate him, I'm interested to know why, and if they feel I'm watching him a different way. It's just that it really irritates me to see him play whilst Joe Garner, a player of fantastic potential who can score goals, harry the opposition, and even for a little guy be just as much of a nuisance as Adebola, is chucked out on the right-wing.

Bristol City fans may have loved him but I think he's rubbish. Opinions to the contrary are welcome.

Agreed. I don't think he is rubbish, however, he did have a poor game today.

Agreed, i don't see us making any 'progress' with him in the side. Useful only as a sub at the end of games when we need a goal in my humble opinion.

110% agree, if he is on there to win headers he needs to be challenging to win them. Dexter it seems was underneath a lot of long balls and won his fair share of flickons so in that case get a mobile forward behind him who can latch onto them.

Also feel when he plays the general plan of attack edges more and more towards hitting it long missing out the better players in the team. In my opinion should be used as a last attempt if a goal down with 10 mins to go and we are just bombing ball into the box. Otherwise fitter, faster more skillful options amongst the squad should be playing from the start.

Today he was used as a bulldozer through the middle. Once they saw our tactic it wasn't hard to counteract. I just would of thought he would be more effective late on in a game with balls coming in from wide. Gaz mac maybe?
I hated watching the first 35 minutes.Embarrassing. Any team that plays that style of football is basically saying we haven't got enough skill but we do have raw power. Nothing wrong with variation but to begin a match like that was dire.
BD just doesnt seem to have faith to play conventional football through the midfield. As soon as they sat back a bit we saw so much more of raddy. Proper football with midfielders on the front foot.....

I thought he played quite well today tbh. I thought he won his fair share of headers alowed us to hold the ball up well and lay it offas we broke to atack, yes he slow and looks clumsy but here apears to still be able to control the ball well and turn with it ect he just lacks pace but he is 34, tbh I was expecting him to be like lennon and cole but I have been impressed with what he has done so far this season.

Thats true actually. I seem to remember in first 20 mins he beat someone and got a couple of crosses in from the left. unfortunately no one in a forward position to meet them.

also towards the end when we didnt exactly look convincing and plymouth came foward and poured the pressure on when we hoofed the ball clear delle did great job of making sure it didnt just come straight back to us like it would of last season yes he might not win it and sprint half a pitch and bang a goal in, but he wins a ball in areas we have strugled to in the past and yes he might loose it or get tackled but he manages to just break it up eneugh to allow the defense to pick up there men again.

He did this role very well against Middlesbrough in the Carling Cup match as well.

When the pressure was really on, we could clear the ball to Adebola... he would use his size and strength to hold possession - and he did this perfectly.

While he didn't create too many goal scoring opportunities, he stopped them from having the ball.

He was interviewed on the radio after the game and said he injured his ankle in the warm up but played with it heavily strapped. He also said although the pitch looked good from a distance it wasnt too great. IMHO Blackstock is our best all round striker and i would start him every game with Garner or Earnie. Also Anderson should start every game on the right ,,,,his pace makes a real difference.

He wins a lot of headers and then gives the ball away instantly, lacks pace and I dont think he is a nuisance to a defence at all. The only thing he brings to the team is everyone picks the ball up and hoofs it up to him in the hope he might create something. I would have expected a lot more from him against such a poor and inexperienced defence

What a rubbish thread! Adebola did alright today, won a lot of headers and was quite mobile. Yes his touch let him down a couple of times but show me a championship forward who doesnt! He was more effective than Tyson today (and no Im not slating Tys!). Players cant be 100 perfect every minute of every game! Dele is a great player to have in our squad!

On another note what happened to Earnie today? Heard the official line was injury but cant see anything about it on os, anyone hear anything else?

He is hardly slow.

He's no Tyson, however everytime I see him I'm surprised how mobile he is considering he build and age.

I've said it before but he's awful in the air for such a big and powerful guy.

For me, he'd be 6th choice, to throw on when we're chasing and/or if Dexter needs a rest.

A few months ago Joe Garner looked like a superb young striker with masses of potential, I think we need to give him an opportunity to realise some of that potential. Playing him on the wing because he chases and harries whilst Adebola lumbers around up front isn't particularly beneficial, in my opinion.

With the exception of 5 seconds in the Ipswich game, his performances haven't been up to standard?

I assume Billy wanted bigger players more suited to grinding out a physically challenging win away from home

Earnshaw has a pelvic injury and didn't travel.

I agree, Billy talks about the round peg in square hole thing. So it would just be nice to see Anderson play on the right and Garner given a run in the side upfront. There's no doubt about it IMO Garner will score quite a few if he's playing upfront, I know he works hard on the right and makes a nuisance of himself but it just makes more sense to put Anderson there.

And about Dele he's slow to react and looks knackered everytime I've seen him play even when he comes on :D but he is 34 I suppose. A good option to have against more psychical or tall centre halfs though like at Ipswich.

I when Adebola is in the starting line up it keeps out 2 of our best players - Earnie and Ando. Anderson becuase his speed will make Dele reduntant as he cant get up in attack fast enough. And Earnshaw because Billy's a clown and can't see how well they can/have worked together before.

I was also screaming at the TV for Dele to be replaced by both of these players (as early as the 50th minute)

Well the FA would of had a problem with that as you are only allowed to replace one player with one player :p
