Dean Henderson

His kicking at Forest mainly went into row D.

There was one (only one) occasion when he actually managed to kick it to a Forest player and it was met with a large round of sarcastic applause from the crowd. You'd have to imagine that it has improved since then.
He was carrying a groin injury for some time. He needed an operation but played on until that game when it fully went and he ended up on crutches.

I don't think Sels ever really has howlers as such, like John had at Villa for example. But I do often find myself questioning whether he could've done better with goals.
One of the main reasons he doesn't have howlers is that he never puts himself in those positions to make them.

That's not a good thing btw, a match doesn't go by without me screaming for him to come off his line more. A good shot stopper no doubt, but commanding his area is where he lets himself down.

Sels is and has been excellent but he’s 10 years older than Hendo and weren’t there rumours he wanted to head home in the summer. I’d be happy with this.
10 years older ? Sels isn't 39 and hendo certainly isn't the 25 year old when he was last at forest , hendo i think is 29 now, sels is 34/35 ?

I think Hennessey played the Palace game too because Navas was also carrying something towards the end, seem to recall others were taking goal kicks. Plus that run in basically finished Felipe at the top level... Brutal.

But yes, if he was managing a groin injury then that would affect his kicking, of course.

Exactly this. It’s a drum I’ve been banging for a while but I still maintain that if John Victor doesn’t rush out and try and clear there’s still a 90% chance Villa score. Of course it was still a blunder but far from a career-defining catastrophe. Sels would have stayed put and maybe even have made the save because he’s much better in that respect. But pro-active he is not.

In two and a half years I've seen one howler from Sels and that was Bournemouth's fourth the season before last.

I saw more from Peter Shilton in his first two and a half years. First half of 1979/80 season he was shite, best keeper we've had notwithstanding.

Unless he wants to leave, keeper is not a position I'd be looking at doing anything with.

Mark Crossley first few months under Frank Clark - absolutely dire. Now considered a great.

Shilton was clearly experiencing off the field issues during his loss of form in the latter part of 1979.

Was that the blowjob/car/lampost interface era?

Also id like to add if he didn't get that injury he looked like coming out was the right decision.

It probably was. ff he was already managing an injury or if he got injured coming for the ball, that would have been why the move wasn't successful.

If he'd managed it, then it would have been seen as good sweeper-keeping (and doesn't everyone love a sweeper keeper these days?) but because he screwed it up for whatever reason and it led to a goal it's a howler - fine margins in action again.

I think up until then JV had showed he was at least competent at this level, if not quite as good as Sels, he didn't do much wrong in most games he played.

There were rumours about Frank Grey's wife and an unamed player.

I think of all the latest rumours (Armstrong, Munoz, and Henderson), Henderson is the least likely to actually happen.
I'm not sure the Toffees will risk serious umshar by letting Armstrong go, but the rumoured £40 million (and probably a sell-on profit share) for a 19-year old might persuade the club's owner to sell.
Munoz it seems is pretty well certain to happen... there, that's jinxed it!

The evertonians owners seems happy plodding along, not spending to get anywhere. With owners like that you never know if they are in it just for the money and would happily take 40mil especially when it wont harm the chances they have as he aint getting any real game time.

Yeah on the reddit threads in r/soccer and one on theother14 a lot of Everton fans seem to be suspicious that their owners are planning to asset strip them. Glad we have EM and just have to buy players for our sister club.

I don’t think there is much in it. If he is, it’s marginal.

But he is much younger so we would be paying for longevity.
I was going to say there has to be a better keeper somewhere abroad for less money. But I suppose we have been burnt with that before. So you just pay the fee for longevity as you say, but also for guaranteed competence at the level rather than risking it and probably spending a lot of money anyway.
