Davies Speaks out...

Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies has said he understands why the club were unable to add to the squad in January.

The Championship club made written offers for four players, but signed no-one, to the frustration of supporters.

Davies told BBC Radio Nottingham: "What you find is inflated prices, you find it very difficult to get things done.

"We made several attempts and we targeted a number of players, but unfortunately the financial agreements couldn't be reached."

The Reds boss has said he will just have to work with what he has got at the City Ground.

"My job is to work with the players available. It's heads-down, sleeves-up time," he said.

"What we will do is galvanise every squad player in that dressing room, we'll get the spirit right and we'll work very hard to keep ourselves in the division."

I fear for us if we don't at least get in a couple of players on loan.

We're still five or six wins away from safety, and as we shown by our first half of the season, that isn't always easy.

That just tells us pretty much what we already know, that the club weren't prepared to meet the values asked by clubs and so we end up with no new players.

It also makes it seem as though we won't be signing anyone on loan.

There is no cartel in the football transfer market - The market dictates the price and in this climate many clubs are struggling financially, so in theory prices should go down and not up. What this says is that Forest are not prepared (for right or wrong) to match the market rate. Granted a team near the payoffs is going to attract players easier than one a few points off the relegation scramble, but getting all 4 bids rejected says the bids were light.

Fair play to Davies though, if the players can get their heads down and sleeves rolled-up, then we stand a much better chance than if we signed players who didn't give a toss...

all well and good provided we don't get any more injuries or suspensions , but that is highly unlikely and no matter how high they roll their sleeves up if the starting XL is just not good enough we will get found out and i have a suspicion the coming month will show us , don't get me wrong i'd love to see us get 3 or 4 wins this month but i just cannot see it .

Fair enough to BD just hope we get a few loan signings in. Its no good signing players
just for the sake of it 2 or 3 Joel Lynchs at inflated prices just to make the squad seem bigger is
a total waste of money and time.

If Billy Davies can keep us up with this squad, riddled as it is with injuries, without any loan additions then I can see the arguments already being prepared to tell everyone that with the experience gained we can push on next year without adding to the squad......... ???

who just posted 50 then?
as i was just about to post
XL is 40, X=10 L=50 as X is before the L that means 10 less than 50.
but it disapeared ???

it's just a term , a couple of examples just to help you out. not an indication that 40 players will be fielded although we could probably do with that.

No its not just a term. Its roman numerals.

XI = 11 (hence Starting XI)

XL = 40

With respect I proberbly wouldn't have said anything to begin with, but calling people thick, when you think theyve made a mistake isn't very nice, and again with respect, makes you look a bit silly when you are the one thats wrong :)

Ah well, could have been worse.

We could have signed Scott Dobie.

More to the point, if he keeps us up with those conditions then the man is a f**king genius.

He does say in the NEP that he will have his scouts looking at who is available on loan but will not make any panick signings, says he will kick a few arses in the dressing room to get them playing better and will work with the younger players to get them better and better.

Said he had at least two other names that approaches were made for that did not come out in public. Was not unhappy at failing to meet asking prices as he knew the budget when he signed on.

Pretty straight talking again, I reckon if anyone can sort it then it will be him.
