Davies Review So Far ?

As someone who hasn't seen a game under Davies yet, how do you feel about Billy's reign so far ?

He was under heavy critisism during the barron spell, but he seems to have us firing on all cylinders over the last week. Now he has een able to bring in the players he wants, can you begin to see the type of football he is trying to get us to play ? The goals he is getting us to achieve ?

We now have a few Billy signings in, good ones (even on loan) and they seem to be impressing. Is there a more positive vibe amongst the fans than a wek ago ?

Aaaaaaaannnddd discuss ! ;D

When we win, He's great.

When we lose he's a poison dwarf with no idea.

When we draw, we all resort to talking about Paul Smith.

Same as all forums!

I have high hopes for Billy, I fear that the difficulties we might face will come from above him rather than he himself. He's tactically astute, he clearly has an eye for decent players and he instills more of a sense of professionalism in the team and club in general that we've seen for some time.

Given the right backing by the board he could be a huge success for us.

I fear that people look more upon his Derbynil 'hoofball' tactics than the stunning football Preston fans saw and Motherwell. !

To my shame I haven't seen any Forest games this season....infact i've seen the blades more  but Davies has sounded good ever since he got here....dispite him having some dodgy methods of getting the job done, he's brought good players in and results are coming.

The final judgement will be at the end of the season, if he keeps us up then he's all good....

I don't think he ever played 'stunning' football at Preston, but he did play decent football on the deck. I was chatting to a Preston-supporting colleague about it.

I think Billy Davies is doing a good job for us and i can see him doing a great job for us going forward providing the investment is there to support him in the transfer window. When Calderwood got sacked on Boxing Day i thought we should have given him more time as i felt he could have turned it round for us still. However the following stats have proved (so far) that the board have made a good move in bringing BD in as manager. He has proved at Preston and some other team that he managed to get temporarily promoted to the Premier League, that he is a great manager in this division. He appears to be a great motivator and is clearly passionate about winning.

Form under BD
Played 11
Won 5
Drawn 2
Lost 4

17pts out of a possible 33pts (51.5% of possible points)

Form Before BD

Played 26
Won 5
Drawn 9
Lost 12

24 pts out of a possible 78 pts (30.7% of possible points)

I couldnt believe the amount of people whinging on here a few weeks back when we hit a bad run of form and lost those 4 league games. The squad is clearly lacking depth, something which BD is trying harder than anyone else at the club to rectify. Our defeat to Cardiff was harsh (we had a perfectly good equaliser disallowed),, we should have got a point at Ipswich (again a perfectly good first half equaliser was disallowed). Had it not been for injuries and suspensions the results of those 4 games could have been very different. But as it stands, in his 11 league matches in charge BD has certainly improved the way we play, and so credit to him for that.

I hope our run of form continues as we continue our fight for survival,, im sure it will with BD at the helm. We certainly look a more confident and determined team than we did before xmas and so credit to BD for that. The only slight moan i have is the embarrassing time wasting tactics he employs towards the end of the game,, the Lynch substitution on Tuesday night was cringeworthy!. Its all very well trying to see out a win,, but couldnt we do it by getting ourselves a 2 or 3 goal cushion instead of hanging on to a 1 goal lead?!

Allways remember my mate, and the chap who liced in my flat whilst I was away was a season ticket holder and touted Billy as a future premiership stalwart. It's no coincidence that Nugent played his best football under BD. he got the best out of his players (Ormerod included) and found the players who suited each others style of play. I'm actually surprised we didnt get Brett during the transfer window.

But PNE and Derby both battled when needed, and played the football required to the occasion. Preston were playing great passing football, yet direby only had the players to play hoofball. I think BD is trying to turn us in to that PNE style side he nearly pushed (they would of made it were it due to lack of funds too)

My only critisism of BD so far has been that we were a bit too slow to bring players in but even that may not really be his fault. At the moment though, the signs are good but too early to start reviewing his performance.

At times we have earned points the ugly way but at times we've played some good stuff too. The players seem to be enjoying the more proffesional approach that BD brings as opposedto CC's more relaxed style.

Obviously we just need to survive this season and from there we can look to progress. BD has inherited a team built by CC and needs to be given time to put his own stamp on this side before his performance can be properly judged/reviewed.

I didn't like the way he moaned about the lack of depth/experience etc when he was/is effectively responsible for it. He has loaned in some very good players, Osbourne looks good and you won't get better than McShef in this division. Even the LB position looks good now.

You can't knock the fact that he is getting results at the moment, but he still has to keep coming out with the crap at the end of the games. We've had the big clubs and the clubs with money that we can't compete with, yesterday it was a team that has a manager that has had 120 games in charge and been together for three years. It's quite obvious that he gen's up on teams before we play them, so that he has ready made excuses for his after match interview if we don't win.

This is what I don't like about him, I am going to have to stop listening to his after match interviews and all his excuses, and then I might be able to stop myself thinking 'Is he really our manager?' every time I see him stood on the touchline.

So far, I like the things he's done. As a manager, it's a bit early to say but I think he could be very good for the club.

I don't like the things he says or the way he talks. The way he comes across in interviews makes him seem like an egotistical self-promoter.

I can live with the second one of these provided the first one happens.

The Billy Davies hoof ball tactics is just a myth, I can honestly say I have seen next to no hoof ball under Billy.

It sounds like he's started giving players actual positions. He's not a fan of headless chickens. Its zone football. I think that is why Cohen will seem a little quieter now. He's getting his head around the position he should be playing. It will lead to us conceding less, which is what we needed.

I think we'll be up there next season. Our prob is for now that we have 7-8 teams to face that are battling. If we survive this year we'll be okay.
