Davies: My job is on the line

Looks like he wants to talk himself out of a job. Listening to (or reading) his comments is just like listening to the death rattle of a man dying of terminal flatulence. Even when we were playing well he never stopped whingeing and "kneegate" was just plain embarrassing.

He doesn't have much sympathy in the comments section either.

I'm tetering on falling into the "We don't know what we'd do without him but we'd rather" camp.

He wants to get sacked, he is a politician with little tatics.

Just get your head down Bill and get 3 points against Millwall, I'm bored of all these little statements he releases all the time that basically say the same thing.

One fans view in the comments section :

What has put Billys job on the line:

Constant criticism of his employer in the public domain - if you think that is acceptable try it at work tomorrow!
Deliberately pitting supporters against the club heirarchy to achieve his own agenda
Lack of loyalty to the club - openly touting his availability.
Lying about his lack of knowledge of the Perch deal
Paying $500k for Boyd and then not playing him
No interest in building a long term successful club - scrapping reserve side - will not play any youngsters - only believes in buying buying buying - why not try coaching what you've got Billy?
No away wins since January - Something like 14 out of 17 games resulting in a defeat (cant be bothered to keep count).
No tactical awareness that i can see - sitting on his hands against Blackpool without doing anything when anyone could see we were getting overun in the centre of midfield.

Billy has played the Forest faithful like a violin - Not being backed - how many players has he bought in the 18 months hes been here 10 0r 11?

We were told by Preston and Derby that this man is bad news - i hold BD responsible for the most poisonous atmosphere at my club for years.

The sooner he moves on the better!

All the time? He hasnt spoken since post match vs norwich has he? This article today, is just bits from the same interview as yesterday.

Every time I listen to or read quotes from Billy it's the same thing time and time again, just worded differently.

I don't need to hear how thin the squad is, I can see that for myself.

I don't need to hear how we haven't got the players to get promotion.

I can see that a few injuries will damage chances.

Maybe we didn't sign players because they too have read reports, spoke to players and don't like this 'cloud' over the City Ground, or maybe they don't want to work under Billy Davies. It's all to easy to blame everybody else but the atmosphere around the club is awful at the minute.

but the word on the street, is it's only a matter of time before he's gone.

Is this from the same place that has at several points during billys tenure here, said hes walked out and his resignation will be announced shortly :D

Sounds like half of that is recycled from another interview.

Billy is speaking the truth, and it is the managers that get the stick. But it now seems like he is past caring.

When i first heard it wasn't convinced it was real, be interesting to know what other people think.

It was posted to twitter by NCK282 this morning, not someone i've seen post stuff before anyone else and also no website appears to be at the domain where the the interview is located (www.nottsjournal.co.uk)

If Billy doesn't get what he wants, all the toys come out the pram, not the the TAP have allowed him many toys, though.

I thought Nigel took all his toys?

I just think he is saying what we all think, if results don't go our way, he will be for the chop. But the board have hardly given him a fair chance this season, maybe the things he says is to deflect the criticism from the players at games.

Even in the game against Leeds I heard our lovely fans slate our players, so perhaps with Billy saying this, the fans will lay off the players.

Even worse is the constant criticism of his own players in the public domain, there's nothing quite as inspiring as being told you're not good enough, is there?

it all depends if the players respect him they will try harder to get his favour if they dont then it all goes to shite

When he came into the job, he said almost the exact same thing- and the club survived. At the start of last season and all the way through it, he repeatedly stated that the squad wasnt good enough or strong enough to get promotion and expected mid table....yet look how they responded. With our best placed finish and season under ND's entire 11 year stint.

So that suggests it doesnt have any negative effects.

Maybe it's his way of motivating the players! Reverse psychology! Wish he'd shut up though!

It may work when confidence is on a high, but when you've picked up 3 points from 4 matches and there's unrest at the club, it's the last thing you should say about your players after the run we've been on.

Just one point - we didn't make our last permanent signing 14 months ago. We signed Raddy in July!

Honestly though, we all scoffed at the Derby fans who warned us what he was like but they were right. I know that feelings run high on the subject of Mark Arthur but, at this moment, if I had a choice between Arthur or Billy I would say get rid of the poisonous Scottish dwarf. Ideally both of them of course!

When he came in and said similar things, we were in the bottom 3 and had won what was it- 3/4 games all season? There was unrest at the club as the previous manager, who had brought most of the players to the club had been sacked/resigned after a humiliating 4-2 defeat at home to doncaster.

I'm pretty sure confidence was not on a high at that point, but it worked a miracle.

Didn't Billy also say to not believe anything that he says in the media?

He is - I suppose - being honest. If the results don't come, then he will be blamed; either by the board alone, or by supporters calling for his head.

We know how good a manager he can be - he took a squad that looked relegation fodder, added a few new faces, and got them to third in the league.

I personally think Billy is playing a bit of a political game; he said in mid August how disruptive the Transfer Window was, and how he wanted it closed - perhaps he new then no players would be signed?

Still, we have a (small) squad of players, and a manager who, despite his protests to the contrary, is capable of leading and motivating that squad - he proved it last year!

Yes, we haven't strengthened as much as Billy - and many of us - would have liked.

However we're still going to get 11 blokes running out the tunnel on Saturday in the Garibaldi, and we need to support them - I know I will be!

If anything, all hes done is lower peoples expectations about getting promotion. These hopes were not raised by davies, but by doughty and arthur saying we were expecting promotion this season.

In a sense they've piled alot of pressure on the squad, which they havent seen fit to improve.

Billys words will help abit to lower the expectations of the fans and take abit of pressure off of the squad.

You only have to look at how the fans are already outraged and slating the players (even booing mckenna) as a direct result of them expecting to be chasing automatic promotion.

Its a smart move by billy to play that down. If we do well, it looks like we've done it against the odds and its impressive work by the squad and will rally people behind them. We worked much better last season when we were the underdog.
If we fail to get promotion, or even make the play offs, then the fans shouldnt (in theory) be so quick to jump on the players.

When we got beaten by watford at home last year, there wasnt half the negativity (at least to my mind) and outrage as there has been about us drawing against the like or norwich and the lack of incoming transfers. Because expectations were much lower.

Billy has been extremely consistent in playing down the squads chances, since hes been here, and its worked wonders. Now folk are complaining as if its something brand new and outrageous.

Its not davies who has come out and said "it has to be promotion this year" or "I expect 3 signings to be in before the burnley game" or "whittingham and pratley both want to come to us, and we are the only club with money to spend".

Just my opinion anyway. But i think the board has acciedentally done more to create this situation, than billys comments.
