Good to see him busy commentating on football games whilst doing **** all during the week.

He's busy today commentating on the Chelsea v Baggies game for the Fox Soccer Network.

I like the bloke, but if he is busy commentating what is he doing for us?
 
I agree. How's he supposed to get a look at any football players while he's busy commentating, eh?
 
Can't quite understand the unjustified vitriol that David Pleat comes in for from our fans. As far as I'm aware he has a similar role to Billy in that he advises and recommends the panel on potential targets, and he's been responsible for some astute signings as a result.

The other thing I believe to be true is that his role with the Reds isn't full time, so him pursuing other avenues of his career (which as goatboy alludes, could help his role with Forest) isn't really that out of order.

I agree completely. Doughty is not a fool with money and would not continue to employ Pleat and pay him what is probably a very handsome salary for a relatively easy job unless it benefited the club overall.
 
I'm just being a cranky twat because of the lack of signings.

I bet he'll be back on ITV during the week for Champions league.

I'd be interested to know exactly how much work he does commentating.
 
At this time on a Saturday night, what else is he supposed to be doing? No one's training or playing any other matches.

Should he be following potential targets around bars and nightclubs to see if they drink to excess??

I'm sure Pleat can advise/ recommend/ talk to ND/ talk to Billy/ enquire about players from anywhere in the world.

Nobody knows his day to day business, he could have been meeting anyone concerning transfers before his stint on the TV earlier.

Sounds like some are starting to lose a grip and looking for silly reasons to blame anyone for anything.
 
Working for Forest is obviously a 24/7 365 day a year job then. The way some people think they didnt deserve to be given a brain at birth they should have had to earn it

David Pleat does a decent job for Forest, he was instrumental in bringing in the players we got last summer, and does a lot of scouting for the club, not to mention his apparent large network of contacts.

And let's not forget, for all the abuse he gets, he's a Nottingham lad and a Forest fan too!
 
I find it hard to believe that the TAP can justify the rumoured 90k pa to pay Pleats 'consultancy fee'!!!!

I genuinely believe he is unnecessary at Forest. Like many businesses too many people all just adding a little/nothing to the cause, ND should streamline and save resources and time. Surely we have a 'head scout' and a scouting system capable of recommending players with potential...

Surely in NDs' 10 years at the club he is now more educated in the footballing side of the business and can now see that signing a bunch of unproven Italian for £10m+ is bad business - he no longer needs Pleat to tell him the obvious.

Also 'consultant to the club' is such rubbish, I could tell ND that money is tight in football, lets see what we can make of the academy, Whittingham is not worth 5m I would offer 1m, don't pay championship players 40k etc etc etc
ND could listen to the football show or Jamie Redknapp and get as much insight into football as pleat can offer - if your going to have a consultant at least have someone vaguely relevant!

Again, I'm mainly angry about the lack of signings, but I do always believe that Pleat and the TAP are a waste of time and resources.
 
£90k? If that is the figure then that's a bargain for having such a well connected person in our club.

Think of the players we've signed in the last year three years which we have got good prices on; Anderson, Camp, Wilson all under £500k. McKenna for a little bit more. Raddi for a little bit more still but with a massive bag of potential to increase his value.

All of these players Pleat has been involved with. We were all prepared to splash out a million on Ando and Camp each. We've already saved £1m there.

Leave Pleat alone, if nothing else he is a big name in football which might convince the likes of Pratley and Whittingham to come to us rather than stay at there respective clubs.

Everyone can view this differently, but I personally see no reason why a competent chief executive could not negotiate the best deal for the club.

MA should be able to get forest the best deal without the need for extra help from Pleat, all this red tape just slows everything down.

Mckenna was 900k* (decent ammount more than 500k)
Majewski was 1m** + the loan fee the season before (Not just over 500k)
and Camp was a decent chunk more than the 100k reported (rumoured).

Don't get me wrong these are all amazing deals still, but not to the extent where Pleat has got us special Pleat discount on certain players, and Mckenna helped us out by saying something like - at this stage of my career I would like 1 chance to play at a top club and challenge for the prem etc...

I just think for the benefit of our club we need to change the way we operate in the transfer windows.

Rumoured where? If he's paid anything like that I would be absolutely staggered.

I've no idea how forest works internally but I'm pretty sure pleat is not just scouting players, if at all; we have keith burt and his team for that. I imagine he's there largely because he's been in football a long, long time and he knows everyone who is anyone and has done it all before. One of the secrets to running a successful business is to know what you're not good at and get someone in who does. It will stop you wasting your time and money making stupid mistakes yourself. ND runs a *very* successful business, albeit just investing other people's money.

Can't remember where I read it, I'll try find the article...

Definitely agree with getting the right people in to help where you need it, but should our chief executive not be competent with advising about transfers and negotiating deals in Forests benefit?
