I think he always had the talent, but lacked the discipline and mental fortitude earlier in his career.

The problem is people tend to place too much emphasis on "talent" and treat it as a straight line.

Fact is form comes and goes. Players move on and learn.

He isn't the player he was when he was here. He's pushed on and got better.

Fair play to him.

Mir's slightly different though in that he'll be back at Wolves season end. So any investment in him will see little return for ourselves.

Muric & Semedo are the same to me. Unless they're gonna become Forest players, I'd sooner see their game time go to academy players who'll we reap the rewards from.

Ha, I'm saying which option I'd choose out of the two options,and why Walker would rightly get leeway from some mate.

My preferred option in terms of actions was the one I suggested pre-season - keep Walker for the cheap backup, sign someone at a modest price who offers a different option to Grabban, but is also good quality & can score. My suggestion being Olivera.

Those loans he mentioned are also "kids" in football terms, so in other words if we're going to use them may aswell use our own (unless these other kids are already proven to be good enough)

They're kids from a higher level of football and so likely to be of better quality. It isnt as simple as replacing a kid with a kid.

Same, he was shocking and couldn’t control the ball.

Remember Neil Harris came here too and looked awful then went and scored a bunch back at Millwall.

With hindsight I would argue that the club was in such a mess at the time it would have been difficult for any talent to really shine. McGoldrick and Harris likely needed the right environment to flourish and we didn’t give it to them and when I say we I mean the whole club including us.

I watched McGoldrick play for the reserves a few times and it was like watching a different player. His free kicks were up there with Radi's and McGugan's from close range and he always looked as though there was a real player in there.

He strikes me as a lot more mature now.

I remember watching him play thinking, 'how the f*** does he manage to try and run with his shorts down to his knees' and in warm ups he'd always make the absolute bare minimum effort, often pissing around.

Looks like he's taken himself a lot more seriously now, and made the most of his talent. To be fair, as mentioned above, we were a shambles at the time.

As for Harris, he was f***ing useless. The bloke was done when he signed for us.

Sure he was the object of McKenna's club night story.

I worked with his mum for a while, think it was all show gangsta, as it tends to be.

Always thought he had talent. I remember watching him closely live on the pitch and he made intelligent runs and had good technique. Held the ball well.

I never really knew why people didn't like him. I think it was because he didn't score enough or didn't look like he tried hard.

His running style was quite odd so maybe it was that too.

I always rated him too, yet everyone around me on the Trent End HATED him at the time. Him and McCleary always got the "Billy doesn't know what he's doing" comments every time they came on. I'm sure I remember him scoring a fantastic goal last game of the season to help us secure playoffs in Billy's second season? I know people say now it was terrible he started against Swansea but that season Earnshaw's legs had gone, Blackstock was done and I always felt if we hadn't have swapped managers then McGoldrick would have come into his own the next season. Then we ended up with Derbyshire and Miller lol
