David Kelly set to become Manager of Tranmere Rovers!!!

David Kelly, the former Tranmere striker, is set to take over from John Barnes who was sacked by the club yesterday.

Kelly played for Tranmere between 1997 and 2000, scoring 21 goals in 88 appearances.

Since retiring as a player where he played for, among others, Wolves, Newcastle and West Ham, Kelly has worked with Billy Davies at Sheffield United, Preston, Derby and currently Nottingham Forest as assistant manager.

The former Republic of Ireland international has always had the ambition to be a manager and is poised to take charge at Prenton Park following the departure of Barnes and assistant manager Jason McAteer.

Not sure if he will ever become a No.1.

What's Frank Burrows up to these days (apart from the remake of Terrahawks).

Whilst we are on the subject, we have been completely shit in the Johnson's Paintpot Trophy this season.

Apart from this, why would our Assistant Manager want to leave?

(Think that covered up that one)

Re: Ned Kelly Leaving?

I think I read this news this morning in the thread further down the page

Billy rates him highly, but I presume wouldn't stand in his way

I've always hated him as a player so wouldn't a give a monkeys if he left. Plenty of decent number 2's about.

so to speak.

Hope he doesn't leave but I can understand if this is his first shot at being a number 1. If you go good luck, you have a right old mess that John Barnes left...

I'd say that was ideal. How could anyone possibly be any worse then Barnes. He's only got to win a couple of games within 11 or so matches and he's already exceeded what Barnes achieved.

He can't do worse than Barnes....

Can he?

This is one of the things I don't understand about football. How many jobs has Barnes had a go at and how many has he made a success of ? Yet give it 6 months and someone will offer him another go ! Some people just can't do it, end of !

Well he's had 2 jobs managing club teams. Celtic and Tranmere.

It's not like he's had dozens :D

Oh and he managed Jamaica for a short time, where he was fairly sucessful but left for the Tranmere job.

Where has he said he rates Barnes? ??? I think his point was it took Barnes a long long time to find a job after the Celtic disaster and that he still dosen't have much experience as a manager. Platt on the other hand, we had to endure for 2+ years getting steadily worse :(
