Danilo

I love him, but some players just aren't mentally the same after an injury like that.

I think it's clear that Nuno loves him too - he gave him many more chances than his play deserved last year.

All in all, it's just a shame really. He might be better off in a less physical league.
Agreed.

Was a devastating injury for him and he clearly wasn't the same player upon his return. His first half performance against Man Utd was desperately poor and it was sad to see him looking so completely lost - especially as we all know how good he can be.

I think we all expected it to be a breakout season for Danilo too, but that dream was cut short eight minutes in.

Will always have fond memories of the guy and wish him well should he end up moving on. Maybe it's for the best.

Got to say I think he's better than a move back to Brazil at his age.

Still, as long as we get decent cash for him I couldn't give a shit if he signs for Barcelona, Botafogo or Basford United.

Shame we are getting rid, could need a player like him this season. On his day he's very good and capable of picking out a pass.

Brazilian league is actually pretty good.
Danilo, love him for the first season but if I'm honest, he's a bottom half central midfielder.

By hook or by crook he's giving us cash for Danilo. I fail to see just what Textor gets out of this and dont know what Marinakis has over him but who cares?

Textor gets EM’s investment in Botofogo’s setup.

In his talksport interview you could tell how proud he was of turning Botofogo from a bankrupt club to £200m profit, and he mentioned how there was significantly less regulations which has let him achieve that.

He will want to push Botofogo’s profits as much as possible as he came across pure business, compared to EM who is business, but also driven by the need to see us winning.

If EM invests £200m into Botofogo over so many years, Textor can take more profit, which he wants to be able to do wider in his MCO.

This likely offsets the money we’ve paid out to them.

Got to think we have a top quality CM incoming.

Sauce salad?
I remain sad about Danilo leaving: he's such a talented and technically gifted footballer, and it's always sad when an injury stalls progress - given his age and the length of time he was out it certainly did, even if there are no longer lasting issues.

Good luck to the lad - he had quite a few moments in that first year with us but his performance against United at home the season before last is one that I'll remember along with his early passing from deep areas.

He should be staying in Europe, way too good for the Brazilian league although they are starting to bring back a lot of players now as they are throwing a fair amount of money around. Palmeiras have been linked with Richarlison recently for about £50m!

I'm kind of on the fence about this statement - pre-injury Danilo, no doubt absolutely too good for the Brazilian league. Post-injury Danilo was a shadow of that player though. If he needs to go back home to rediscover his pre-injury self, then it might be best for his career to do that.

He barely played, people are over-exaggerating the pre/post injury Danilo. He just needed a run of game to get back to full fitness & we were playing a far far higher level when he returned. He should definitely be staying in Europe.

Problem was, he looked like he'd be a massive risk to give a run of games to, so I can only judge him on that.

Agree, I think the most we can say about post-injury Danilo is that the jury's still out. Though if Nuno, who clearly loves and rates Danilo and will have seen a lot more than we have in training, is happy to let him go then maybe he has lost something.

I do agree with this, he was a liability towards the end of the season, that seems hard to dispute to me. Fresh start needed at a different level, whatever that may be.

Same for me: sad is a good word.

Some of his goals were outstanding.
