Dan Harding

Harrison

Jack Armstrong
Dan Harding has been released by Ipswich, has been on loan at Reading this season. He is a natural left-back so could be an option. Billy did say he wanted another left-back aswell as Bennet and Lynch.

He's quite good.

Didn't have a very good season at Reading, though.

So he's not very good then?!

Well yeah he is, he just had a bad season with injuries last season.

Bit like our Anderson, except a bit worse.

He had a bad season in a side that made the playoffs?

I'd suggest, that may make him a better option than what we currently have.

No wonder my post count..
He is a Harding after all

To be fair he had very little to do with Reading reaching the play offs. He joined them half way through the season when they had been on a good run of form. However, he was part of the team that put together a run of poor results that saw them miss out on automatic promotion, and inevitably fail. He had been on loan at Southend, who didn't think enough of him to sign him permanently, was part of a poor Reading side that failed, and has now been released by our Championship rivals Ipswich. How is he a better option than what we've already got?!

Because at the moment we have two options. One has a serious injury, won't be fit for months yet (if at all) and once fit has still to prove that he can cut it at this level. The other is 20 years old and has started a grand total of 10 games.

Oh sorry, I didn't realise Dan Harding was the only left back available to us! There are plenty more options out there for us to entertain and we should not just settle for other Championship club rejects. If we want to improve and get to the Premiership we have to be looking at bringing in quality players, and not tried and failed individuals. I do agree that we need to bring in probably two left backs this pre-season but for me he is not the solution.

I too have doubts surrounding Bennett's future, especially given his current injury situation.

If you're talking about Lynch, he's 21 and he started 20 games last season, not 10, and was very impressive in the latter half of the season with sound defending and numerous assists. I wonder if that is more than Harding?!

I am not suggesting for one minute that Harding is the answer, but I do wonder about your blanket assertion that he isn't very good. Neither of us watch Reading or Ipswich on a regular basis to really be able to form a judgement. If Davies signs him then we have to trust his judgement because he'll have a far better idea than any of us.

Having said that, knowing our transfer committee - Harding = out of contract=free=very good option.

I never said he was the only option. You asked how he was a better option that we've already got, so I answered your question.

And I'm not on about Lynch. He is currently contracted to Brighton. Other than the aforemention Mr Bennett our only LB is Joe Heath.
