The fact that Liverpool have lost their most influential player of the last decade for nothing, and spent 300 million last summer, means they probably could really do with selling a homegrown player for a few quid. Obviously that’s me speculating though.

Also, wouldn’t be a surprise if Jones was keen to leave given his age and lack of starts for them. I do agree that he would definitely not put them in a situation where he runs his contract down though, especially after the reaction to Trent!

I do think he would be a good signing for what’s it worth, maybe I am biased because I really want us to sign this Ivorian lad!

The year left on his deal is a red herring in this case. It only matters where a player is willing to run down his contract and is of significant importance to the club and/or they need the cash. None of those are applicable here.

Not at all - granted "believed" is not a strong word but that's what you write when you haven't heard it from the horse's mouth and the source is reporting it second or third hand, maybe a coach, maybe a mate, maybe a kitman could be anyone, but someone who is certainly closer to knowing Jones' thoughts than you or I.

You'd use "sources close to" if it was a source in the immediate circle of said player but even then you might not if you don't want to jeopardise their identity.

By all means consider the line with some scepticism, as by definition a second or third source doesn't have the legitimacy of a direct quote, but far from being "lazy" or "shit" its a journo giving the best update they can on an ongoing story and you know more than you did before you read it while the journo is not claiming to or framing it as fact.

This was something I mentioned the other day in that Glasner is going to be more appealing to play under then VP for a certain level of player.

Complete conjecture on my part but I do wonder whether the club might have hit this as a barrier early on in some signing discussions?

Surely a big part of his thinking is a psychological/status one I think - whether we like it or not we are a smaller club than Liverpool and he's been a regular there. He must be prepared to fight for a spot with the new manager and only if it's clear he's no future would he move. Even if not first choice he can sit on a fortune and still probably be a bit player at his boyhood club that could be enough for some - but if he were to leave he'd want to go sideways & move to club seen to be at least somewhat of Liverpool's stature be it a Chelsea, Spurs, Man Utd maybe even Villa before considering us and maybe even look abroad.

Till we're at least on Villa's perceived level we're not gonna sign many, if any established PL players from the so called top 6.

As to why Jones wont come to us.... I was wildly hypothesising that Forest are not on his radar because he comes across as a homeboy. Somethings we all can't stomach and I just feel his buddies would rib him for joining the old enemy.

PS I would be thrilled if he took some alkaseltzer because I for one always rated him.

If he's established at Liverpool he isn't leaving, and the question wouldn't be asked. The reality is that he isn't really established, he's a filler-in, a bit part player, who isn't confident of being in the manager's plans.

I doubt any of the lad's mates would even be aware that there was once a brief, though keen rivalry, and let alone without any fixtures for the best part of a quarter of a century.

He definitely is. There's not many decent prem ready midfielders at a good age for £40M these days.
